Throughout my academic career I have been asked to take many different forms of questionnaire programs that will interpret my answers and provide the best career for me. For this assignment I was asked to take the Focus 2 assessment and further assess the career I might want to explore during my years as a college student. Although for some students Focus 2 and other applications similar to it, might be helpful in discovering what they want to do, I do not place much emphasis on these results. Currently

The first day of therapy was horrendous, I forgot to take my pain medication and she made me do all these weird stretches with my hand. I wasn’t looking forward to my next appointment. In order to experience and get more exposure of an Occupational Therapy career, I have volunteered and worked in a variety of health care facilities. I have shadowed professionals and volunteered at a hand therapy specialty center and at an inpatient rehabilitation center. Additionally, I work as a therapy aide at an outpatient rehabilitation center. I have been exposed to different aspects of the profession by seeking out multiple rehabilitation settings. I have realized that a benefit of this profession
parents paid me in form of allowance and started a college-trust fund to pay for college fees later in life. In addition, I applied for a job during high school to work for Vons. This was my first job and the start of the basic building block toward my career development. Furthermore, I began to get more involved in high school and volunteered for my school charity outreach programs. For instance, the Los Angeles Food Bank came every Friday and passed out food to underprivileged families who lived in project

From volunteering and shadowing therapists, I have realized that there is no patient that is the same. I was given an assignment in high school to write a paper on potential careers. I knew that I was specifically drawn to work with people with special needs, and my research led me to make occupational therapy my career topic. Since that time, I’ve had the opportunity to shadow at Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Center and Sappington Elementary to work with children with disabilities, and then to the DePaul Health Center to work with adults who were stripped of their independence through surgery
birthday, so it was time for me to make a decision. I told her I did not know and she started to list a bunch of career options I could pursue. She continue to go on and on then, she said Occupational Therapist. My mom described to me what Occupational Therapist did and their job responsibilities. That is when I decided that this is the career for me. I am driven to become an Occupational Therapist because I want to provide for my future family, and to grow spiritually and mentally in the process.
