The ocean is the biggest biome in the world! An estimated 70% of earth’s surface is covered in water from the oceans. There are 5 main oceans included in this biome: The Indian, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Southern. The average temperature of the ocean is 39 degrees fahrenheit, but can vary greatly depending on the location of the ocean and the time of year. Oceans are also very salty -- for every gallon of water in the ocean, there is a cup of salt. The ocean is divided into three zones, vertically. The first layer, which light can penetrate, is called the euphotic zone. The next layer, which is too deep for light to reach, is the disphotic zone. The light in the disphotic zone is often described as looking the way twilight looks on land.
I examine how rising or falling tide can affect the water level of Corte Madera Salt Marsh in this report. The data is from Wednesday (June 19th) and Thursday (June 20th). My hypothesis is that tide and water level have positive relationship. From the result, I learn that the water level and tide have positive relationship. However, when tide changes its direction, the water level is likely to stay or little change.
Everything starts to happen on December 1941 in there house in Ocean Park, California. Ocean Park is a small little town that is kind of by Santa Monica, a lot of the people that life there make their living by fishing, and eating what they catch.
To begin with, if I was currently an advocate for the environment and animals I would first focus on the Orcas, or killer whales, at theme parks, specifically Sea World. First of all, Sea World is inhumane. Five of the Orcas currently at sea world were “whale-napped” from the oceans they called home. For example, Tilikum, one of the most know whales in the Sea World franchise, is now thirty-two years old. He was captured at the age of two by, which means he has been in captivity for thirty years. And, before anyone says Tilikum was injured so they “rescued” him I want to say that it is fact that Tilikum was not injured. He was taken from his family and confined to a tiny tank just so people could make a hefty profit. Also, if the Orcas are
The world is home to many living things, the majority of life on earth though is living in the ocean with a percent of 94%. Since the beginning of the 1800s, man has been mapping the great oceans and what’s in them, but no more than 90 years ago have we started to look deeper. The ocean hasn't been completely explored, but with the advances in ocean exploration technology, scuba diving’s, and with those finds of strange creatures and treasures along the way.
All of the waters in the Pacifc Ocean remains as calm as the winds blowing the tall grasses on the plains. As the water waves around, a huge camouflages ship, Arabalest, is making way to rendezvous with the team that was supposed to pick up the Reaper, who just bail on her orders.
Have you ever been to a coral reef if not you will learn about them today. The coral reef biome is one of the most interesting biomes. In this paper you can learn about the climate and location ,the pants and animals, also there environmental concerns and the human impact on the coral reef biome.
Ever since a young age, I have been extremely interested in ocean life. Due to annual summer beach trips, I was exposed to aquatic life often as a child and became very comfortable in and around water. My interest in the ocean is the main reason that I can see myself as a marine biologist in the future. Another trait of mine that contributed to this career choice is that I enjoy working with others, but also work well independently. For this reason, I want career where I can collaborate ideas among my coworkers, but also work on independent projects or investigations. In addition, I will enjoy a career where I can interact with other people and animals, rather than work strictly in an office. I also enjoy science classes, including chemistry
global concern, leaving many to question, is there a remedy for the misfortunes that befall with ocean desertification?
Starting off this class I too shared the popular western perspective on Oceanic culture, but it has been changed to due the influx of knowledge I have gained from material covered in the class. I agree with Malcolm X’s contribution in the activist world. He declares that the issues in communities should not be called “civil rights” rather “human rights” because the term creates a cooperative world wide effort to find a solution. Although I am not of Pacific descent, I too have drawn out similar misconceptions western countries have implemented on my culture. Hau’Ofa’s essay has encouraged me to analyze any production from the west that is portraying an aspect of Oceanic life and think if the community is accurately being represented.
When referring to Arizona’s water Kris Mayes, chairwoman of the state’s utility regulatory panel once said, “How do you say just how valuable water is in an arid state like Arizona?” she said. “It’s like the credit-card commercial-it’s priceless” (McKinnon). She was right, because in a dry state like Arizona, water is pretty important. To say water is ‘pretty important’ for the world is an understatement. We use water to function. And when we think of water we think of saving it. Keep the faucets from dripping or turn off the water while brushing your teeth. There are numerous tips for water conservation, but people don’t often think of the damage that is already done. Damages like ‘dead zones’. Dead zones in the ocean have been around for
The aquatic hierarchy is a carefully balanced ecosystem. With all the species intact and flourishing, the ocean thrives. But, like the great Pyramids of Egypt, if one component is out of place, the whole system collapses. This could lead to more danger than most people realize. For example, if the coral reefs are destroyed, sea turtles, fish, eels, and multiple other species would die. Or, if the Great White Shark went extinct, fish and seals would overpopulate and endanger the rest of the ecosystem. However distant this mass extinction seems, a small portion of it is slowly occurring before our eyes. Whales are only one of the multiple creatures suffering from our neglect, and not only are they suffering, but the hierarchy of ocean life and even us, as humans, are affected by this disastrous event.
The planet is made up mostly of water; approximately 71% of the Earth’s surface is water, out of which 97.5% is contained within the oceans (Cain)—which is why the fact that there are more than two hundred dead zones in all of the world’s oceans shouldn’t come as a surprise. Dead zones in the ocean simply refers to a part of the ocean that has reduced oxygen,
A huge part that makes the Earth different from any other planet is the diverse environments or biomes that make up the lands. The different environments help create the different cultures around the world which help shape people personalities and their everyday lifestyle. Each biome has different factors in them that describe them which are their cultures and the three main types of land biomes are the tundra, grassland/desert and forest.
Pacific Ocean: The Pacific Ocean can be found in between Asia and North America and South America. Something unique about the ocean is the animal and plant habitat that lives there. There are a lot of varieties of plants such as algae, and animals.
Biomes can vary in size being a massive space or a small space, either way a biome is a massive habit full of flora and fauna, there are some non-living and living thinks such as rocks, mangroves, water those are all the non-living.in the living category there can be fish, crabs, and all sorts of other animals, And some biomes just consist of mangroves, they are the most important part of the biome.
