Most people might consider Odysseus as a hero who saves the worlds and makes it a better place just like spiderman, batman or even superman but no in my opinion I don't think of him as any superhero. He's just a regular person like the rest of us and i'm going to tell you why I think this.
It all started a while back when Odysseus was trying to go home when he left from the war, trying to go home was a big journey only because he had trouble doing it, things stopping him from getting back to his family back home.Odysseus and his men wanted to find out if the cyclopes are friends or foes. And turns out they were foes just because they tried to keep him from going home, but he did’nt let that stop him he was going to keep going just so he can get
The Odyssey is an amazing piece of literature. Some people question whether the main character, Odysseus, is a hero or not. Odysseus is not a hero because he was not a good leader. He leads his followers into lousy situations where many people were hurt.
In the book The Odyssey, the main character is Odysseus. Odysseus performs many heroic acts throughout the story, but also some bad things as well. The question is, in the end, is Odysseus a hero? One of his many acts of heroism was when he and his men were on the Cyclops island. He disguised his men as sheep so that they could get through the cave without harm because the Cyclops were blind.
What makes someone a hero? Is it the adventures they go on, the traits they possess, or how popular they are? In The Odyssey, Odysseus embarks on one huge adventure to save his people, but barely gets back home. The struggles on this journey have proved whether Odysseus is in fact a hero, or just a fool who got lucky. Although literary scholars of The Odyssey have argued that he is not a hero, closer examination shows that he is a hero because he met the ultimate goal of defeating Troy, bravely led and sacrificed for his men, and escaped multiple enemies.
Ten years after the fall of Troy, Odysseus a great hero has yet to return to his home in Ithaca. It begins with Athena and Poseidon who helped the Greeks during the Trojan War. Athena turned against the Greeks and convinces Poseidon to do the same. The Greeks are hit by storms on the way home and many ships are destroyed and the fleet is scattered. The war and his distress at sea keep Odysseus away from Ithaca for twenty years.
As a final point, being brave, strong, and making a quick decisions was many kinds of being a hero and that’s what Odysseus had that make him a hero. Odysseus with his men going through a lot of challenges but in the end he is the only one survived and alive. With this in mind, the epic poem showed us how big the difference between the people 3,000 years ago and people in this generation. The author shows in the epic poem how whimsical the world 3,000 years ago and how powerful the gods in their maturity.
First off, Odysseus had to leave his family to go to Troy. Odysseus was probably think that if he and his army defeated Troy than they would have any more trouble with anyone, but that is not the case when Odysseus was trying to get make to Ithaca they went to they Cyclopes island and find food for him and his men. They find food in Polyphemus cave they start to eat it. When Polyphemus return to his cave and find Odysseus and his men Polyphemus is angry at them for eating his food, but Odysseus says they are guests and just want
Odysseus is a hero in many people's eyes, but was he truly a hero. A hero might be a person who cares for other people helping them through their strife, but if you really read the actions and cruelty that Odysseus did throughout his voyage,Odysseus is not an example of a hero. In the book The Odyssey written by Homer,Odysseus was disloyal to his wife and son by leaving them for a War. He stole other people’s possessions and harmed the women on Ismarus island. He betrayed his men that led to their demise on Cyclops island.
In the Greek literature of mythology, we have examined Odysseus. Students and scholars alike debate whether Odysseus was a true hero, as read in The Odyssey. There is much supporting evidence to prove all sides of the debate and opinions held of Odysseus. It is of my opinion that Odysseus is a hero in his homeland, his family, the Greek people, and for us to learn from to this day. Odysseus had encompassed three many qualities that I believe made him a hero. He embodied, mental strength, physical strength, and spiritual strength. I would like to advocate for why Odysseus was a hero.

In book 12 of The Odyssey by Homer Odysseus is portrayed as a hero. In the story he is told by Circe that he will find an island with many cattle. She also states that if him or his men eat these cattle he will only return to Ithaca after all his men die. Odysseus warns his men of this and says “Each one of you must take a solemn oath that if he meet with a herd of cattle or a large flock of sheep, he will not be so mad as to kill a single head either, but will be satisfied with the food that Circe has given us.” Odysseus is a hero because he is able to resist the temptation of killing the cows because he knows it is best for everyone. However, his crew is not able to resist and eat the cattle. This shows how strong Odysseus’s moral values
Merriam-Webster defines a hero as, “A person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” For Odysseus to be a hero this definition is supposed to fit and describe him and his character, but why does this definition not describe or fit him and his character? This is because Odysseus is not a hero. Odysseus has done unethical things on his journey that makes him a person that should go unadmired. For example, when Odysseus ignored the death of his man in order to make more progress on his journey since he claims a task was pressing and waited for the Cyclops in order to be offered more gifts (his men die as a result), these examples prove he is a person who does unethical things. Odysseus is not a hero because he is disloyal, selfish, and greedy.
“Now shrugging off his rags the wiliest fighter of the islands leapt and stood on the broad door still, his own bow in his hand” (Homer 557). In epic poem The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is a hero because he makes a clever decisions by gaining a close connection with Circe, he is cautious for he built his bed out of an olive tree, protecting his family from imposters, and he is cunning, for he allows his men to successfully escape Polyphemus’ cave.
Heroes in real life have supernatural abilities. People also find characteristics of heroes in regular people, like parents, famous people, or just who have made a big impact in their life. The main character of The Odyssey, Odysseus, is shown as a hero because him and his story fit the epic hero cycle. However, just because he is an epic hero, means that he is automatically a hero. He shows us throughout the collection of books that he lacks humility and is unfaithful, proving that he is not a hero in any sense. In Homer’s The Odyssey Odysseus’s lack of boundaries throughout his voyage back to Ithaca show that he is not a true hero.
Nearly every story in Greek mythology revolves around a character with a certain outstanding attribute, be it strength, intellect, or even musical talent. Heroes such as this might spend their lives questing for kleos, or the myth might simply be a tale in which the hero was trying to accomplish a certain task, such as returning home or rescuing a lover from Hades. In every case, these heroic tales would always end with tragedy; the hero would be killed by a jealous lover, go mad, or have a loved one taken away from him. However, one Greek hero existed whose story did not end with tragedy: Odysseus. Homer's The Odyssey is unique among all other Greek myths in that it is the only story in which the hero does not meet a tragic end; why
Upon first glance, the story and plot of The Odyssey seems quite comprehensible. Most people will look at Homer’s work and will see the great Odysseus as the main character and focus of the story. Odysseus is often viewed by individuals as a heroic figure, an epic hero to be specific, and the King of Ithaca. He is seen as a man who has done the impossible, which includes battling through countless obstacles, slaying monsters and people alike, and somehow, miraculously, managing to make his return home after a grueling twenty years. These statements are exactly what most people envision when they think about The Odyssey. They really have every reason to think this way because after taking just one glance at the title, it is clear how
