Open your eyes … real people rare.” - “Feel It” - 21 Savage In John Steinbeck's novel “Of Mice & Men”, there are many different themes. One of the most redundant themes throughout this novel was the theme of loneliness, loss, and isolation. This theme is seen in many instances, such as when Curley's wife privately tells Crooks, Lennie, and Candy that she is not pleased in her marriage due to Curly’s ego and negative attitude. Also, in reality; real friends are truly hard to find. But, navigating through life (effectively and positively) is strenuous and lonely. Curly’s wife did not like Curly, but stayed with him to not be physically alone, but what good is physical presence if you dislike the person you’re with and don’t communicate in a healthy way with them? The main character I can point out that had a real connection with the person they were with was George and Lennie. George has always looked out for Lennie, even when he shot Lennie in the back of the head in the forest, it was because he didn’t the villagers to harm Lennie themselves after Lennie accidentally snapped Curley's wife's neck. Although, even though they were mostly lonely, they still enjoyed seeing other people experience negative emotions such as fear. This is seen when Crooks made Lennie cry after teasing him and making him believe something bad happened to George.
