As technology evolves daily, offenders of sexual victimization will use this outlet to continue victimization. The internet is easily accessible and is used frequently by numerous people. When one is on the internet they are able to hide behind a computer screen. One way these offenders have used the internet for sexual victimization is creating create fake social media accounts where they pose as someone else. Although social media is intended to be a place to connect with friends and family, some have abused these websites and have become online predators. Offenders can target a victim by first following their profile, commenting on pictures, or statuses, and then began online chatting. Through these messages they can attempt to make false
The most important factor or factors when comes to determining the sentence for a sex offender, these would have to be 1. to consider their criminal background or any related convictions that are similar to sex offending, 2. their background as far as their personal relationships were and have been all across the board to know what kind of danger they pose to society. 3. consider in exact detail the type of offenses that had committed in the past and to whom they were exactly committed against at best. 4. look at the mental, physical, and emotional state of mind when they were using whatever motives to commit the said sexual offenses toward the victim, and along consider the ages of both the victim and the criminal who has gone through with
It is not uncommon for someone to exaggerate the truth or to leave out facts about themselves on the web. In fact, you may even find that the person you thought you knew on the internet is nothing like their profiles in real life. Whether it is to stand out in the crowd or to fool someone into thinking you are someone else entirely, you should not believe everything you see or read online. With photo enhancements, little white lies, and the scam termed catfishing, you just never really know who you are talking to or what their intentions are. Michele Fleming and Debra Rickwood, authors of “Teens in Cyberspace”, determine that parents and the public share the concern of teens encountering predators and pedophiles on the internet and could lead to inappropriate relationships on and off the web. The young generation typically communicates with peers and people close in age, however, Fleming and Rickwood advise “Even though many teens appear Net-savvy, they still need to be reminded of the potential dangers lurking online. There may be many friends in cyberspace but there are undoubtedly a number of
Online predators and Stalkers can easily gain access to social media users’ personal information by either requesting to be a user’s friend or simply finding a way around the user's privacy settings. According to June Ahn, chat rooms are public and is an unmonitored space where online predators are more likely to be. “Adolescents are less likely to be targeted for unwanted sexual solicitation in social media than chat rooms.”(Ahn, June) I have found that, 412 adolescents were more likely to talk with strangers. This is hazardous for young children and adolescents because their lack of life experience leads them to blindly accept all friend request. The effort to seem popular by having many friends online can damage credibility and truth worthiness.
The sex offender registration and notification law are a sensible concept that help us defend our children from potential predators. To begin with, sex offender registration and notification can be checked ant time, anywhere as long as a person possess a device that connect internet. The opinion on what should happen to sex offenders is exactly that: opinionated. While trying to find opinions that argue with each other was pretty difficult, because most people believe that if you’re a sex offender, you’re a rapist, which makes it hard for anyone who committed a sex crime to find a job that will actually hire them, and then not even for a long period of time. With all of the laws that are against sex offenders, it also makes it hard to find a place to sleep, so many are homeless. Even if it wasn’t toward kids, then there is still a parameter that they have to follow. While doing the research for finding why a sex offender has to live the
This issue actually is very relevant to me. After learning of the tragic death of Reagan Tokes by a convicted sex offender, my roommates and I took it upon ourselves to look up how many registered sex offenders lived nearby our apartment, here off campus in Columbus. The number was astronomically high, and truthfully kind of scared each of us. Thus, I did not respond greatly to this news, it made me uncomfortable and uneasy to think about someone like that living so close to me.
Within society, there is an engrained belief of what makes a person a legitimate victim and often their status as a ‘victim’ is questioned. This is especially true if the victim does not fit the typical stereotype of who is considered to be a legitimate victim. This is most widely illustrated in cases involving male victims of sexual assault.
I feel that as a society we do play a role in the formation of a dangerous sex offender. I find that a common theme replaying across the histories of various dangerous sex offenders is family instability. In modern times the family has become more and more isolated. Instead of large families living together, or near one another, there tends to be large geographical distances in between them. In addition, people tend to not know or have any involvement with their neighbors further isolating them. This social isolation seems to be lending a helping hand with the dissolution of the family unit. More and more families seem to be single parent, second, third or more marriages, or other family members raising children (i.e. grandparents) to
Sex offenders have always been a great problem within communities because of the fear they incur among residence. The term sex offender applies to individuals who have committed a sex crime, which includes either genital exposure on school premises, raped and molested. Law Enforcement requires the minimum sentences for people who commit sexual offenses but I think it should be harsher. Sex offenders should be given a longer sentences for sex crimes so that they can actually learn to curb sexual offenses at future

Four of the women agree this application might put them at risk of getting hurt or someone killing them but the remaining two women didn't sympathize at all. They felt that if they did the crime, society has a right to act out if needed. When asked about innocent sex offenders being registered as A a sex offender, all of the women seemed puzzled. They didn't know how to probably answer the question but one of the women stated that she feels that the criminal justice system does makes mistakes and she know there are incidents where people lie about their age and as a result another
The main purpose of this dissertation was to explore, explain and evaluate the responses of professional organisations when they bring together a multi-agency approach to work with young sexual offenders. Previous literature has often ignored the issue of young sexual offenders and therefore, this dissertation provided a critical literature review which attempted to rectify this problem. The findings of this dissertation showed that whilst there has been an attempt to coordinate a multi-agency response, the government has jeopardised this response by the introduction of difficult and confusing laws, policies and organisational arrangements. This has had a disadvantage affect on juvenile sexual offenders, as practitioners have had to negotiate
After criminals pay their debt to society, many criminals will start a fresh life, those convicted of felons are limited to job selection, they lose the ability to vote and if they are a sex offender then they go on a list of sex offender registry. However, not all crimes are readily available with information about their offense except for sex offender. Their criminal records for any sex offenders is required to be visible and available for anyone in society to have access to. The Texas Department of Public Safety website has a database that you can access and you are available to view how many sex offenders are within your zip code. In my 77076-zip code, there is total of 62 sex offenders within my areas. Sixty of those offenders are male and two are female. The criminal justice system is a system in place that is quite peculiar. If an individual has a monumental amount of evidence against them, thus convicting them of a crime, they are sentenced to a prison term equivalent to their crime. Once an ex-convict has been released, paying their debt to society, their punishment is over and societal integration begins. That is how it should happen anyway, most criminals carry their crime for the rest of their lives, even if it was a one time incident or an accident. This gives ex-convicts adverse complications when trying to move past the crime they committed. The record they carry with them is similar to a cloud of pestilence that filibusters most attempts to reintegrate into society, it becomes more
There is a growing problem with crime in the United States, but the one that is unique in its own way is sexual assault and the varieties of sex offenders that engage in those activities. Having someone come talk about what her career was interesting, and shocking. Hearing how many sex offenders are just in the town of Paragould area, let alone how many could live in a large area. It is strange to think that one could live right next door, and many people not even realize it. It is scary to think of some of the crimes committed that she had mentioned because sometimes I try to wonder what goes through people’s minds that would allow them or drive them to hurt another human being, let alone a child, and that is something she must do with her job. I can only imagine that having to see some of the stuff that these people allow or do to a child has to be hard and challenging for her to have to see, because most children are defenseless
