Liquid Oil Pipelines
Of the all the oil fields throughout Canada, 25% are offshore locations in Newfoundland. 8% comes from either BC or Ontario and 67% of all onshore oil fields are in Alberta, which is defined by the term “Oil Country”. From these locations, pipelines are used to transport liquid oil to refineries. It is at these refineries the process of being turned into gasoline, diesel, and petroleum takes place. After this process, petroleum products are sent to distribution centres.
Natural Gas Pipelines
Unlike oil fields, natural gas resources can be found throughout the Northwest Territories, BC, Alberta, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. From gas wells in these areas, pipelines transport natural gas to processing plants, and then to distribution
Through progress, Canadian Natural Resources Limited had progressed to primary heavy crude lands in 1993 and purchasing thermal in-situ areas 3 years later, becoming a leader in the in-suti crude oil developments. As of 2000, they sought out to acquire assets from The North Sea along with Offshore Africa while also creating gas conservation with equipment including "pipelines, pad compressors, booster compressors, gas plants, and fuel lines" (Canadian Natural Resources Limited Performance Presentation Primary Recovery Heavy Oil Sands Schemes, n.d.) While continuing to strengthen the Northwestern Alberta and British Columbia 's basins, Canadian Natural Resource Limited furthered their achievements by recognizing synthetic crude oil at the Horizon Oil sands, leading to a shipment of such into the sales pipeline. Also in 2008, Canadian Natural Resources seeked out the ‘Kirby In-Situ Oil Sands’, hoping for approval on another project. From the beginning Canadian Natural Resources has strived to achieve something different and make an impact. Throughout the history of the company, Canadian Natural Resources has continued to search for new and economic ways to improve the company, "predict[ing] an oversupply of natural gas could last as long as seven years, keeping prices low"( 2011, March. Mother Nature gave us natural resources to patronize and natural gas is one of them. Small quantities of ethane, propane, butane and pentane are found in the natural gas composition but it is mostly made up of methane. The high volume of pipeline gas makes it difficult for it to be transported in its gaseous form. This is the reason why the oil industry is dominating because of how easy it can be transported. Pipelines are suitable for transporting pipeline natural gas but constructing the suitable infrastructure is very expensive and not technically feasible for global transportation.1 In addition, for you to be able to make it in the gas industry you need trading partners to buy your natural gas. Having said that, one can deduce that the only way to make a
The first of three pillars that make up the oil and gas industry in Canada is the upstream sector, which is comprised of
The protest of the South Dakota oil pipeline seems to be getting so bad that it is becoming dangerous for the protesters. The use of excessive force by the police towards the protesters is in some cases life threading the use of rubber bullets, tear gas and high powered water houses in the dead of winter where temperature are below freezing at night it’s sickening that they can use such extreme measures . The people of the standing rock reservation are only fighting for the safety of their water and ecosystem and they are being treated like criminals. I worry with the election of trump the chances are that there is nothing they can do to put a stop to the pipeline I find it extremely hard to believe he is going to side with the protesters. What if the pipeline is happening
Enbridge estimates that 99% of the crude oil from Alberta is transported to the United States. Currently though, America 's demand for imported oil is decreasing (AsiaPacific.ca/Canadian Oil), as oil-exploitation in the
Imagine living in a third world country with overcrowded houses and no job. That is how, “about 22% of our country’s 5.2 million Native Americans live” (A Program of Partnership With Native Americans). Right now Native American people take up about 2% of all land in North America, most of it being around the area of North and South Dakota. Over the past week there have been protests over the insertion of an oil pipeline through the Native American people, mainly the Standing Rock tribe’s, sacred land. This new pipeline would, “threaten water supplies for the Standing Rock Sioux and millions of others downstream, and its route would destroy tribal burial grounds and sacred cultural land” (Healy). Many of the Native American people, along
Oil sands are a combination of sand, water, clay, and bitumen. Extraction of oil sands can create petroleum products that are efficient. With several economic advantages of importing such a powerful source of energy, Enbridge proposed the Northern Gateway pipeline project which was a plan to build twin pipelines from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia for the transportation of natural gas and diluted bitumen from the Athabasca
The project consists of three major components, these components will consist of the aforementioned natural gas pipeline conversion, along with the construction of new pipelines in several provinces, including, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick, which will link up to the main pipeline, and finally the construction of several necessary facilities, such as pump stations and tank terminal, to help transport the crude oil cross country. (TransCanada, The Project section, par. 3)
Alberta is the largest producer of conventional crude oil, synthetic crude, natural gas and gas products in Canada. Alberta is the world’s second largest exporter of natural gas and the fourth largest producer. Two of the largest producers of petrochemicals in North America are located in central and north central Alberta. In both Red Deer and Edmonton, polyethylene and vinyl manufacturers produce products that are shipped all over the world. Edmonton's oil refineries provide the raw materials for a large petrochemical industry to the east of
In order to stop the recession the United States is currently facing, jobs need to be created and the US citizens need to have more money in order to spend more of their income to get the economy back on track. By the United States government funding oil pipelines (PIPELINE 101), building the wall on the U.S. – Mexico border (Drew), and making free college more easily accessible in state colleges (Low Income Student Scholarships), the U.S. citizens will have disposable income to spend, which in turn would stimulate the economy to stop in recession.
The current environment we are living in is vastly different than what it was a few decades ago, urbanization and the industrial revolution have kick started changes within our environment. We have left our mark on this planet, and it hasn’t necessarily been a great one. Comparing images of the Earth from a couple decades ago to currently, the ice sheets as well as the amount of green are clear visible differences. Considering we do not have any other options of planets if ours were to fail, we need to start taking better care of the environment so that it can sustain us. Such matters would include stopping the oil pipeline project that the United States has plans for. Scientists and activists actively speak out against the building of such a pipeline as it will have drastically bad consequences for the climate. The fossil fuel industries have tried meticulously to keep the plans in action, paying off an environmental scientist, spying on activists and trying to reverse the president’s decision to veto the plans. Philosophically speaking these relate a lot to Chomsky’s speaking on the five filters, and Bookchin’s thoughts on the environment. The oil pipeline is clearly a two sided battle, the industry versus the environmental costs.
Our goals : Our intentions are to disrupt the ecological balance by laying waste to the infrastructure of oil pipelines, to bring awareness of the inherent perils to public knowledge. We intend to disrupt the ecological infrastructure by committing one of the worst Eco disasters mankind has ever seen. We intend to disrupt the flow of “liquid gold” to bring about awareness and change. Our goal is coercion, we aim to ultimately coerce the masses to substitute dangerous oil pipelines for cleaner, sustainable energy sources, which do not pollute the lungs of our earth. We intend to incapacitate the system by raising pressure, breaking the threshold, and causing an eruption from the inside out. Our goal is to bring about societal and environmental change forcibly.
Part of the reason for this delay in pipeline production is due to the fact that initially the Marcellus formation’s abundance of natural gas was significantly underestimated. In addition advances in drilling technology, especially in the areas of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing have resulted in a much better output for new wells. While the old, small infrastructure of pipelines may have been able to handle a low number of wells with
The Canada segment is engaged in the exploration, development and production of natural gas, crude oil, and natural gas liquids (NGLs) and other related activities within the Canadian cost centre. The segment comprises the Canadian plains division, the Canadian foothills division, and the Canadian upstream operations of the integrated oil division.
