There are thousands of child soldiers all over the globe, lots of people think they are victims, meanwhile others think they are perpetrators. First of all, a victim is someone being harmed, injured, or killed. A perpetrator is someone who is committing a crime. I think child soldiers are victims because they didn’t choose their fate of being a soldier. Plus, they were given drugs and then guns, so that’s extremely dangerous to themselves and others. First of all, child soldiers should only be given amnesty after they get tested on their mentality to see if they are dangerous or not. If they are threatening, the U.S. shouldn’t have to deal with the risk of the former child soldier to harm anything or anyone. Omar Khadr is a former child soldier
Child soldiers should be given amnesty because they were forced into having to go to war and if they refused to then they were either shot or killed. They were drugged if they said yes so then they will actually go out into war and fight. These kids knew what they were doing but at the same time they did know what they were doing and they couldn't resist it because they would be shot or most likely killed. So think about it if you were in charge of a country with child soldiers asking for amnesty would you give the child soldiers
Child soldiers are a problem that not many people think about anymore because people may believe that they are not a relevant issue.Child soldiers are still a very relevant and important issue. With terrorist groups like the infamous ISIS recruiting children.Former Child soldiers deserve amnesty because they don’t have a choice when becoming a soldier, they will make use of their second chance, and not all child soldiers are killers.
To start with, children soldiers should not be given amnesty because giving them amnesty could give encouragement for people to keep recruiting them. Children soldiers are already being used all around the world and will keep being used until someone makes a stand. Children are considered a good weapon for many people. In the article Armed & Underage by Jeffrey Gettleman it says, “...Children are often considered the perfect weapon: They are easily manipulated, intensely loyal, fearless, and, most important, in endless supply.” They can also be a
They rightfully deserve a better life rather to live in the shadow of their past. While of course they must be safe first and clearly not to far off from “normal” so they can start their new life and regain control of their decisions. So there is no reason to not accept their mistakes that were forced upon them and granting amnesty for these kids. Instead of forever being a child soldier give them a better future so they can call themselves a teacher, a doctor, a CEO, or a father/ mother, but never be a prisoner to their
Child soldiers should not be granted amnesty because in some cases the soldier is in control of his or her actions. In paragraph 4 of “ Prosecuting Child Soldiers For Their Own Safety” it says “But there are cases of child soldiers clearly in control of their actions. “ who were not coerced, drugged or forced into committing
One of the people who take this stance is a forensic psychiatrist Dr. Michael Welner. He has argued that Khadr, a child soldier in Guantanamo should not be given amnesty since he has killed a U.S soldier and spent years in prison being influenced by other radical jihadis. However, child soldiers should still be given amnesty since they have been forced to fight, and have only been taught by terrorists, and the U.S should take time to help those child soldiers because they are only children and have endured fighting in wars which even many adults choose not to
The use of child soldiers have become a normal contribution to armies, especially in countries such as Africa. Although, countries such as Afghanistan, India, and Libya have been using child soldiers since 2011. According to “Children in Conflict: Child Soldiers,” there has been 36 countries involved since 1998. Something needs to be done about this issue due to the fact that thousands of
The children in the war were in a kill or be killed situation. The children didn’t have a choice except to follow orders from their commanders or they would get killed. They had to fight and kill others to stay alive. A quote from the article “Child Soldiers” (To what extent should child soldiers be held accountable for their crimes?) states, “Furthermore, many children join without carefully thinking through their decision. At the time they might believe that recruiting would lead to a safer life as necessities such as food, water and shelter would be available; actually fighting in war would not cross their mind.” This quote proves that child soldiers are victims because the only reason that some joined was because they had to or else they would die. Also because when they joined they didn’t really know what was going to happen and they didn’t know about the all of the mass killings that would occur. They were just focused on staying alive and getting the basic necessities that they needed like food, water, and shelter. If they wouldn’t have joined then they could have died from hunger or the harsh weather. They chose to defend themselves by joining the
First off, child soldiers are held against their will to do dangerous tasks that they have no say in. In an article interviewing Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier, he states, "Somebody being shot in front of you, or you yourself shooting somebody became just like drinking a glass of water. Children who refused to fight, kill or showed any weakness were ruthlessly dealt with.”
Imagine being taken from your house and your family and being forced to fight in a war. This is what some child soldiers have to go through. Not to mention after they are taken they have to risk their lives and be forced to kill. Some are even as young as 5. Child soldiers should receive amnesty if they were young when they were taken, were forced, and show remorse after they were rescued and understand what they did.
For many years, countless children have been used in wars. These kids are forced by their scheming commanders with drugs, false obligations, and threats. They are told to kill innocent people, destroy homes and buildings, act as spies, and so much more. According to child-soldiers.org, “two million children have been killed in conflict. Over one million have been orphaned, over six million have been seriously injured or permanently disabled and over ten million have been left with serious psychological trauma.” Child soldiers endure many unimaginable sights, sounds, and actions that are very harmful to their young, developing minds. While child soldiers are accountable for many crimes, they should still be given a second chance instead of
Some people may say that child soldiers are not morally responsible for their actions due to many reasons. Normally, child soldiers are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. This means that they were not in the right state of mind when they made their decisions. A child's brain isn't
Child soldiers are victims of cruel recruiters who take advantage of their innocence, forcing them to commit acts that no child should ever experience. They are given drugs to brainwash them and make them unaware of what they are doing (Helping to heal child soldiers). The only things they know are the orders they’re given, orders that they can either follow or be killed (Child Soldiers: Victims or Perpetrators). Child soldiers should be given amnesty as it is unjust to prosecute a child for actions they were forced to commit while under the influence of drugs. Instead, rehabilitation should be provided to give these children a second chance.
One child soldier khadr, bragged about killing a U.S. soldier and said it was the happiest day of his life. People like khadr shouldn’t be given amnesty because he is happy he killed. The child soldiers are often forced into fighting and have little choice. “Child
Child soldiers have been constantly argued, neither side clearly winning. So what are child soldiers? Victims? Or criminals? Whilst reading through many articles of these tragic stories, it becomes clear that these children are victims.
