The Raspberry Pi is a single computer board with credit card size that can be used for many tasks that the computer does, like games, word processing, spreadsheets and also to play HD video. It was established by the Raspberry Pi foundation from the UK and has been ready for public consumption since 2012 with the idea of making a low-cost educational microcomputer for students and children. Linux is an operating system that is developed by multiple companies and developers. It is similar to operating systems such as Windows and MAC. However there are differences between Linux and other operating systems out in the market right now. Just like any operating system, Linux has its pros and cons as well. The decision on which operating system I superior is completely up to the user.

There are many operating systems that are common on the Internet today. Back when computers could only handle one command at a time, in the 1950 's, was very time consuming. Now, about sixty years later, a computer 's operating system can handle many applications at one time while delivering speed and is user friendly. Although there are many Operating Systems that are available, there are onle a few of them that are well knon and is commonly used. Some of the most common Operating Systems that are used on the Internet are the Windows platforms such as Windows XP, Sun Solaris, UNIX, Apple, and Linux Apache.

I propose that our company consider implementing Linux for our servers and workstations. There are many excellent reasons to employ Linux as the operating system of choice for our company: Linux is ‘tried and true’; is used by many large companies, such as Google©, Amazon©, Facebook©, and many of the cloud service providers; is less expensive; more reliable and stable; has extensive free community support; uses memory and CPU resources more efficiently; is reasonably easy and quick to install; and is much less vulnerable to viruses and malware than the Microsoft Windows© operating system. Linux can be used on almost any type or brand of computer or server, including older models. I will demonstrate that Linux is a viable and less expensive alternative to Windows and will perform well in our server and workstation environments.

Microsoft Windows has long dominated the business and home desktop market but there is a new contender on the block in the shape of LINUX that is beginning to compete with Microsoft Windows on many different fronts. What is this LINUX and how does it compare and contrast with the Microsoft Windows operating system?

An operating system is a vital component of the computer system. The common and simple devices like refrigerators and microwave ovens does not have an operating system. The complex systems which handle several components, functions and processes usually have an operating system. The operating system is like the brain of a human being, the brain is an essential organ in the body of human being which sends signals and helps functioning of the human body. Our intelligence, attitude, emotions and senses defines our presence, all these are possible because of our brain. In similar manner, “Operating System” (OS) is the power behind a computer system. In other words, operating system is brain of the computer and processor is the heart of the computer. A computer is the concatenation of several hardware parts. The operating system manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs and other application software.

While of a similar flavor to that of Windows 7 Ubuntu is a Debian based desktop distribution. Ubuntu is a good general desktop application geared more toward graphic multimedia usage. Ubuntu also has the ability to run some Microsoft programs such as Microsoft Office through the use of a software program called wine which allows Linux like operating systems to run windows applications.

Linux is then officially belongs to the world [2]. Linux kernel was first published under its own license by Linux, which had a restriction on commercial activity under its own license [2]. GNU GPL, which used in version 0.99 was then published in the mid-December 1992 [2]. In 1996, Linus announced that the mascot for Linux wound be a penguin [2]. This is because Linus was bitten by a penguin on his visit to the National Zoo & Aquarium at Canberra [2]. However, an original draft of today’s well known mascot had been provided by Larry Ewing based of this description [2].

The following sections in this paper focus on analyzing operating systems for Riordan Manufacturing Inc. that specializes in plastic molding and design. Team B concentrated on five main areas of UNIX, Linux, and Windows Server. The five areas include Security, Administration, Networking, Performance, and Programmability. The team explains the existing systems, followed by comparing advantages and disadvantages of each operating system.
