Formed in Long Island, New York, Brand New began to mold around vocalist/guitarist Jesse Lacey, bassist Garrett Tierney, Guitarist Vin Accardi, and drummer Brian Lane. It didn’t take the band long to break out of their small-scale New York scene with the attention they’d gained with their first demo. In 2001, the band released their first record, Your Favorite Weapon, featuring raw and uncut lyrics, and lead to touring with bands like Taking Back Sunday and Finch. In 2003, Brand New changed their stylistic approach with their sophomore album Deja Entendu, and further proving they weren’t another run-of-the-mill pop punk band. Singles such as “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows,” and, “Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades,” soon became fan …show more content…

The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot chronicles the speaker’s side of the conversation he’s having with his girlfriend. They are discussing the possibility of ending their relationship because he knows he’s hurt her, but as the song progresses, he slowly manipulates her into thinking that she is the cause of the breakup and she’s the only one to blame. The first line sets a pattern for the song with, “If it makes you less sad.” He is acknowledging that he’s hurt her, and is accepting the the consequence of losing her if it will make her feel better. “I hope you find out what you want / already know what I am,” The speaker sincerely hopes that she can find happiness, but knows that there is no way he can give it to her. “And if it makes you less sad, we’ll start talking again / you can tell me how vile I already know that I am,” although he is willing to let his girlfriend let go of him, he’s just as willing to let her vent to him, and give him the earful lecture he knows he deserves. In the next line, the speaker is subtly trying to suggest that breaking up isn’t the best idea by saying, “I’ll grow old and start acting my age / I’ll be a brand new page in a life that you hate.” He’s promising that he’ll try and grow up and be more mature for her and to treat her properly. “A crown of gold,” is a
The New York colony was the second colony founded after Virginia. To learn more about the New York colony: the history, culture, and leaders of the colony will help picture life in the New York colony. The New York colony was founded in 1626 by the Dutch and was named New Netherlands until the English led by the Duke of York came in 1626, renaming New Netherlands, New York. In this universe, there are many versions of one thing. An outsider looking in at the city of New York may ponder on the lack of manners and inherent coldness a New Yorker may possess. A person that is born there will not linger on such aspects. No individual lives in the same world as another one does. In “Here Is New York,” writer E.B. White defines roughly three New Yorks in which are able to exist simultaneously. His use of the different rhetorical appeals draws an in depth understanding of the coexistence of three worlds that are united by their shared sentiments.
Buffalo New York, a city in western new york located between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, two of the great lakes, was once known as an industrial capital in the twentieth century. The city has now shifted into a more sustainable lifestyle, taking the once industrial factories and transforming them into different attractions. As of today this is their sustainable triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit:
Starting as a small Tumblr blog, Humans of New York eventually developed over time and evolved. In growing popularity, Brandon Stanton, the blogs creator, eventually decided to turn his famous blog into what some may consider a photobook. When he began accompanying these photos with quotes, or “stories”, is when he noticed his creation come to life. This is where Humans of New York: Stories was born, ready to impact and affect readers all over the world. Stanton’s text provides the reader with a sense of intimacy, allowing for a viewer to feel connected to each interviewee in their own particular way. This proves as a lesson to the audience that every person has their own importance, as well as an example that each person’s unique story can teach us lessons.

Moral reform movements were prevalent from the 1830s to the 1860s ("Digital History" 2016). Female Moral Reform Societies upset the bedrock of antebellum society. These reform societies paved the way for women to break out of the traditional roles that had been established for them from almost the beginning of time. Women became more involved in their communities and politics. There are three prominent areas where female reformist made improvements in their local communities and the nation at large. These areas are prostitution, education, and temperance.
Tipped to be the next 5 Seconds of Summer, Aussie band Little Sea isn’t your average boy band. In fact, they refuse to use that term. “There are definitely a lot of successful boy bands out there at the moment, which is why we made an executive decision a long time ago (before the band was really ever even a thing actually) to not be a boy band.” Shares Dylan Clark, bass player and pianist for the four-piece.
New York in the twenties “marked significant changes in lifestyle and culture” (Boundless). The twenties were booming with new technology and ways of life. They were also in prohibition, which led to corruption and organized crime groups like the mafia. New York in the 1920’s is authentically portrayed in the The Great Gatsby as the epicenter of wealth, crime, and good times.
During all this turmoil we do see the band play a few small club gigs. Their music is nothing to write home about, even Kengo says the band is based on 10% music and 90% theatre. I listened to some of their songs and didn’t like what I heard. I am not really a punk fan but it’s easy to hear that this band plays basic entry level silly sounding punk rock and doesn’t focus on creating anything interesting or original.
There were an estimated 1.8 million sales of the single, and at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, Panic! At the Disco won video of the year for this song and it’s music video. In 2008, the band released their second album, Pretty. Odd., and Brendon, still the lead vocalist of the band, wrote two songs on the album by himself, the first one titled, “I Have Friends in Holy Spaces,” and the second one titled, “Folkin’ Around.” During this time, Brendon also wrote a song called “New Perspective” for a movie called “Jennifer’s Body,” he was featured in several Fall Out Boy songs, such as “What a Catch, Donnie” and “20 Dollar Nose Bleed,” and he helped write a song alongside Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Cee-Lo Green, and Janelle Monae for the Coca-Cola Company called “Open Happiness.” Also in 2008, he was featured in several music videos for Fall Out Boy as well, such as the video for their song, “Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet.” Directly after the tour for Pretty. Odd. in 2009, Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker decided to depart from the band, citing creative differences. Although Brendon and drummer Spencer Smith were devastated, Brendon encouraged Spencer to stay in the band with him, and Panic! At the Disco as a duo released an album in 2011, Vices & Virtues. New York City is made up of five boroughs, which include the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Within these boroughs, there are high and low-income neighborhoods that contain either high or low status organizational structures or facilities. Each division has their own characteristics and top attractions, such as the Empire State building, Central Park, or Times Square. As New York City may be known for great food and fun attractions, New York faces infrastructure problems within each borough. New York City’s infrastructure funding is limited in lower income neighborhoods, where money needed to upkeep the city goes toward prime tourist’s areas or residents living in high status neighborhoods, such as The Upper East Side of Manhattan, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, and Lenox Hill, Manhattan. Moreover, abandoned buildings, poor sewage conditions, and rocky roads and streets are examples of low-income area infrastructure problems that may hinder neighborhood growth both structurally and economically. Harlem, East Brooklyn, and South Bronx are low-income parts of New York that lack new and refined facilities, roads, plumbing, and fundamental structures, which contribute to high crime and arrests.
