We read two books in class that had the same theme. The books were Other Side and Teammates the common theme was one person can make a difference. Both of the book's approach the theme differently. So read more to figure out the similarities and differences of Other Side and Teammates. This is how the book's approach there theme the same. Both of the book’s happen during segregation. In the other side they didn’t let Annie play jump rope with them because she was white ,and there was a fence that separated the white and black. At the game the crowd was booing Jackie because he was black, and when he was with the team no one interacted with him. Both Jackie and Annie had support from a friend. In the Other Side Clover sat with Annie even though
We know that we have all heard the saying “don’t judge a book by it's cover”, well it is used in the short story jackie and me. In the book and around the world segregation and racism happens frequently between races. No matter what color of the skin a person is treating people with respect is just a habit. Treat others the way you want to be treated. If people treat all human-kind equal the world will be successful. The Outsiders is a story where two gangs, the greasers and the socs have grudges against each other. Death takes place in this story due to the immortality between the two gangs. Jackie & Me is a story where Jackie Robinson the first african american baseball player to make it to the pro’s faces segregation and racism. His family
In Conclusion , you can see how these three characters from the book were affected by racism. All of these situations were a tad bit different but you can see how they often got caught in the middle of what other people thought was right and what was really right. All humans should not be judge of their work ethic or ability to do something just cause of their skin color. We all live on the
To begin with, one major theme that continuously played a part throughout the entire book is desire. To many of the characters, it was the one urge that they could never overcome. One
The other greatest similarity present between the book and the story is grief. People grieve together in the same manner no matter where. Together they came to set a condition which they approved of being memorial to their fallen or their lost. In the case of the novel, the people come together to mourn the defeat of Joe Louis. “I could still remember how depressed everyone was after Joe had lost the first fight with Schmeling.
The books that this compare and contrast essay is about is The Roar written by Emma Clayton and Swipe written by Evan Angler. The book The Roar is about a girl named Ellie and a boy named Mika that are twins. Ellie was kidnapped and the kidnaper told her parents that she had died. Mika never believed that she died and he goes off on an avenger to find Ellie. The other book Swipe is about a girl named Erin and a boy named Logan and they are looking for a way to catch peck a criminal that wants to kidnap Logan. These two books have many things in common like there are both dystopian books and they both have the same theme. The theme of both books are when you care about someone you want to help them.
One of the ways the two essays are similar is because both characters were discriminated against themselves. For example, In Black men and Public Space Staples was discriminated against for his skin color. He lived in a part of Chicago where it was mostly white American people. Sometimes people would not look his way and ignored him because they thought he was up to no good. The reason for that was because white people did not want to associate with a black man. Staples was also discriminated because of the way he walked at night. In the essay, an example of that was when Staples explained that he was walking behind a woman. The woman turned around and saw him. The woman thought he was a mugger because Staples was black. In his own words, Staples described “After a few more quick glimpses; she picked up her pace was soon running in earnest, within seconds she disappeared into a cross street” (pg195). That was the kind of discriminations he had
The first difference between the book and the historical account is the fictional character, Marlee. Marlee is 12 years old, very quiet and doesn’t like to speak and good at math. In the book, it states ¨Twelve-year-old Marlee, who is shy and quiet, feels like her whole world is falling apart.¨This shows how the author used true facts in her novel. The second difference between the book and historical account is Liz, she is black but is pretending to be white. Liz likes Marlee as a friend. In the book, it states ¨ Liz is passing for white¨. This shows how there is a difference between the book and historical
In the story, The Other Side this story talks about how a black girl and a white girl became friends just by sitting on a fence, and how blacks and whites stayed separated from each other.
The commonalities that run through both texts are the focus on slavery and the lives of the enslaved people in particular. Both attempt to reveal something about these interesting topics. Both of these texts are set in the time leading up to and during the Civil War.
Yesterday on July 9, 2017 I purchased sunglasses on Haight street in San Francisco and at the point of sale, I asked the cashier he was using Square. He went on to explain how clover was easier to use and more efficient. This was my first encounter of Clover, it led me to believe Clover may be unrepresented in a market it could easily thrive in. As a recent graduate of San Francisco State University I see the potential for the application of technology everywhere. I believe the Product Specialist: Strategic Accounts aligns with my education, work experience, and unique strengths.
In addition, both novels contain similar themes that relate to the time period of the early 1900’s which helps the reader to understand and have a knowledge of realistic events that have taken place. In the time period in which the novels take place, there was inequality and racism towards the blacks. In both novels, this is a theme thus making the plot more realistic. Firstly, Jim, a black slave, has been captured as a runaway slave by the Phelps. He is then locked up at the Phelps farm as if he is an animal. “In the hut down by the ash-hopper[...] the nigger unlocked the padlock as he went in, and he locked it again as he came out”(231). This demonstrates that Jim, being a black person, is treated as less than a white person. He’s treated
In the passage, “Clover”, the main character’s name is Graham. Graham interacts with the other students in is class. The author describes is unique characteristics in the classroom and at home and how the students react to him. He used what was going on at home as a conversation with his students. His name is Graham but his students call him Mr. Koglin. The following passages will describe how he interacts with students, and how his unique characteristics at home and at school react to him.
There are many similarities to how the author shows the theme. In both books the characters both don’t like a person before getting to know them. In the book Each Kindness Chloe doesn’t like Maya a new kid in school before meeting her.And in the book Enemy Pie a kid doesn’t like Jeremy before he meets him.Another similarity is that in both stories there is an adult to help them realize their mistake. In Each Kindness Ms,Albert the teacher helps Chloe realize her mistake by showing the
Firstly, the similarities between the two pieces. The message of unity or lack thereof is portrayed in both pieces. Passages like “The people then started to divide themselves” or “What set them apart was mostly age, which they were able to overcome” show how important unity can be, or how weak a lack of cooperation is.
The theme of this story is teamwork. Claudia and Jamie worked together a lot in the story. My first example is Claudia and Jamie worked together to create a plan for when the museun is closing. They decided that they would j=hide out in the bathrooms. My second example is that they worked together to find out more about the angel by Claudia reading books and Jamie looking in picture books. From doing this they figured out a clue. My third example is they worked together to be able to survive while running away. They both contributed money and they even washed their clothes. They had found a way to earn money too. In conclusion, that is why the theme of the story is teamwork.
