9 November 2015 Overcoming Obstacles Oprah Winfrey should definitely be many females hero. Overcoming many obstacles and tasks especially early on in life. She is really an amazing person to listen or read about. As a child, Oprah’s family was hard on her. When Oprah was fourteen years of age she got raped by family friends. This was stacked high on the list on problems she had. “The poor, urban lifestyle had its negative effect on Winfrey as a young teenager, and her problems were compounded by repeated sexual abuse, starting at age nine, by men that others in her family trusted.” (Oprah Winfrey Biography 4). Oprah’s early life was definitely a hardship, but she grew up to accomplish a lot. She was born on January 29, 1954. When Oprah was born her parents weren 't married. They separated and left her with her maternal grandmother. Oprah lived on a farm in Kosciusko, Mississippi with her three other siblings. Her siblings are Patricia Lloyd, Patricia Lee, and her brother Jeffrey Lee. She was a very intelligent little girl, especially at her age. When Oprah was two years old she learned how to read and told her church congregation about ‘when Jesus rode on Easter Day’. Oprah skipped kindergarten and went straight to first grade, then after that year went straight to third grade.

She was once quoted as saying that the secret of life is there is no secret; it is just hard work. I remember that because it is something I have been told repeatedly by my own parents and coaches. Oprah Winfrey is also one of America’s leading philanthropists, giving her time and money to charities and foundations.
When she got sent there she had nobody that she knew. Not even a sibling or a parent. She had no information on the camp so she was being forced to go somewhere that she didn’t even know about. She was basically scared and lonely. She didn’t even know if she was going to live, but she did.

The reasons that I have selected Oprah Winfrey are because she is the best in her field, has over come personal obstacles, contributed greatly to society and has inspired others to achieve.
I chose Oprah Winfrey for my celebrity. There are many celebrated celebrities worthy of recognition; however, Opray stands out the most.. Opray's net worth is 3 billion dollars and is amongst America's powerful women. Opray is successful as an American media proprietor, philantropist, talk show host, actress and producer. She is known as Queen of all media. She is also the richest Afican-American of the 20th centrury. Life magazine creditd her with being the most influencial woman and the most influencial black person of her generation. In addition, she is amongst America's most powerful women. Oprah is the prime example a great role model. She grew up with the hardships of poverty, she became successful and famous, and also a thriving humanitarian.

In today’s day and age one of the most influential women and people is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah has had a big impact on today’s society and played a huge role in advancing it. Oprah Winfrey is a talk show host, producer, actress and philanthropist who are widely respected around the world. By becoming one of the biggest names in talk show history Oprah has paved the way for others and became one of the more popular women in talk show history. Her willingness to help others and to be sure others are guided in positive light shows how much passion she has to see the greater good in others. Oprah’s biggest role comes from helping to pursue the advancement of young women and girls. Oprah has taken the time to see to it that young women are out of poverty and opening up a brand new school for underprivileged females to see to it that they have the same opportunity that children in America and other parts of the world have. Being that African- Americans, let alone women were not seen as marketable, Oprah helped to change this dynamic early in her career by using her platform in communication to open doors for other people. Winfrey’s work over a number of years is the single most evident reason why she has been able to be successful in the field of mass communication. Oprah is one of the most influential women of our time because of how well she is able to contribute to the human rights of women and advancing them in today’s society.

Winfrey leads from the heart by making connection with others. She is not afraid of being real by sharing her own experience, including her setbacks and mistakes, to motivate others.
