9 November 2015 Overcoming Obstacles Oprah Winfrey should definitely be many females hero. Overcoming many obstacles and tasks especially early on in life. She is really an amazing person to listen or read about. As a child, Oprah’s family was hard on her. When Oprah was fourteen years of age she got raped by family friends. This was stacked high on the list on problems she had. “The poor, urban lifestyle had its negative effect on Winfrey as a young teenager, and her problems were compounded by repeated sexual abuse, starting at age nine, by men that others in her family trusted.” (Oprah Winfrey Biography 4). Oprah’s early life was definitely a hardship, but she grew up to accomplish a lot. She was born on January 29, 1954. When Oprah was born her parents weren 't married. They separated and left her with her maternal grandmother. Oprah lived on a farm in Kosciusko, Mississippi with her three other siblings. Her siblings are Patricia Lloyd, Patricia Lee, and her brother Jeffrey Lee. She was a very intelligent little girl, especially at her age. When Oprah was two years old she learned how to read and told her church congregation about ‘when Jesus rode on Easter Day’. Oprah skipped kindergarten and went straight to first grade, then after that year went straight to third grade.
