The Pacific University volleyball team started its Homecoming weekend with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-8 win over Whitman on Friday night at the Stoller Center in Forest Grove. The Boxers (11-8, 5-4 NWC) picked up significant selfless contributions throughout the lineup for the win. Senior Tiare Kaopua (Nanakuli, Hawai’i) had 24 kills and a .321 hitting percentage to lead Pacific. The hot-hitting senior was joined in the hitting parade by freshman Karlee Duncan (Bend, Ore.), who added 18 kills; plus Morgan Medndicino (San Diego, Calif.) and Bailey Servoss (Mount Vernon, Wash.) each added six kills as Pacific out hit Whitman, .184 to .109 in the win. Codie Conching had a match-high 28 digs to lead Whitman. Pacific started the match with a 25-18 win in the opening set with Duncan and Kaopue leading the attack with five and four kills, respectively. Whitman won the second set, 25-22 with Zea putting down five kills to even the match at a set. The third set saw Pacific rally from a deficit as large as four before a 7-1 spurt put the Boxers ahead 20-18. In the spurt, four-different players for Pacific had a kill and the Boxers also picked up a service ace by Kierstin Evanson (Great Falls, Mont.). Following the seventh tie of the set, Pacific closed out the set on a 5-0 run to take the third set, 25-20. The fourth set was tied twice but after Whitman regained the lead, the Boxers were only able to get as close as one. In the set, Kaopua had her second-straight set with six kills to lead Pacfiic. Tied at two after an inning in game one, the Ladies scored two in the second and two in the third to open up a 6-2 lead. With two outs and no one on in the second, infield singles by junior Payton LeBlanc and sophomore Haley Campbell put two on for senior Anna Dunn. Dunn doubled to left center to clear the bases and put Centenary up for good.
The Gents played a closer game then they are used to in the series finale, but the Maroon and White never trailed in the series as Centenary (16-3, 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) swept a doubleheader with a 12-0 win (seven innings) in game one and 9-6 in game two.

Three different Boxers – Dustin Meyer (Silverton, Ore.) in game one and Dylan Wright (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Brandon Henderson (Pearl City, Hawaii) in the nightcap – each had two hits to lead Pacific hitters.

The stands were filled with spectators waiting to see the outcome of the homecoming game versus Pacifica. Dana and Pacifica had both lost their past two games and it was unclear who would come out on top. With a final score of 31-49, it was the most thrilling match the Dana fans had seen this season.

The Boxers (2-1) were led by junior Nate Olowo, who scored a game-high 21 points to lead three Pacific players in double figures. Olowo scored 11 of his 21 in the first half as Pacific went into the halftime break with a 33-28 lead.
Jefferson County had to battle to win the second set, despite being down by as many as six points in the early goings of the set. Alex Alder and Julia Codispoti led the way for the Patriots offense to take home the second set.
Penn State started out the fourth game with a lead, but Illini caught up, 11-11. Kill by kill, each team went on a small streaks, until they tied again at, 16-16 then. Continuing this close game, they tied again at, 25-25, until Courtney ended the match with two kills, 27-25.
The Pacific is a ten part series about life during WWII in the Pacific Theater. The characters in the show are based on real life war veterans and the plot is based on their stories. The characters in the show had fought in the Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Okinawa,peleliu, Cape Glouster.
