ESSAY PACKAGING AND LABELLING
INTRODUCTION
Packaging and Labelling are crucial elements in the selling of the products, as it is essentially the casing that the product comes in. Most of physical products must be packaged and labelled. Many marketers have called packaging as a fifth P, along with price, product, place, and promotion. So after all the advertisement and promotion, when consumers go to the store and pick up the product, it is only the packaging that they see, smell, and touch. It is thus extremely important for the marketer to ensure that what they see. The packaging should be appropriate to the product, and induce customers to buy it. The packaging and label can be used by manufacture to encourage consumer to purchase the product.
Labelling:
Label is defined as a display of information about product. It is any written, electronic, or graphic communication on the packaging or on a separate but associated label. Label is useful component of packaging. Labels serve with capture the consideration for customers and also provide useful information in regards to the product. Food labels play an important role in a balanced diet. Too often people buy foods that may seem nutritious when the label on the food actually reveals otherwise. Understanding what each part of the food label means is essential in eating a well-balanced diet and managing weight.
In “What’s in a Package?” article. Thomas Hine talks about the roles and effects of package. Hine explains how it is different from culture to another culture. Also, he mentioned the danger of focusing on packaging. There are differences between packaging in the past and packaging now. Employee who sell products to customers don’t impact like what packaging does. packages are around us in our daily lives. Packaging or the way of packaging not just can attract people to buy, it does many other things like protecting product from damage. there are some specialists who do testing for packaging and study what people want or need to make packaging in that way. Packages are different between cultures that they are present
When producing a substance that may be hazardous the amount of rules and regulations that must be followed can be overwhelming. Fortunately for parents and the safety of others, the Federal Hazardous Substances Labeling Act was put into effect in 1960. This was due to the numerous of deaths associated with coming in contact with, and ingestion of a hazardous substance. This act was essential to the protection of our nation’s consumers. Many reasons or regulations are given in regards to safety that consumer needs to know. Just a of these rules and regulations included in the Federal Hazardous Substances Labeling Act are: how to determine whether or not a product requires labeling, guidelines regarding
Modern processed foods are packaged in ways that are designed to sell. With many people seeking healthy and nutritious food options, it makes sense that companies would want to portray their products as such. In the article “Front-of-Package Food Labels”, Marion Nestle and David S. Ludwig discuss why vague and unproven front-of-package labels should not be allowed on processed food packages.
For example, packaging materials such as glass, paper and board, plastics and metals help protect the food item from UV rays/ light during the transportation process. By allowing this, helps prevent the growth of micro- organisms within the product. As well as this, packaging helps prevent rancidity in fats. If rancidity is not prevented, unpleasant odours and flavours within the food item are present, resulting in the wastage of the good. Along within this, packaging helps prevent the cross contamination of goods, when being transported from one area to another. Therefore, the Agriculture and Fisheries sector benefit from packaging, as they are able to prevent the wastage of products being transported, as well as being able to uphold a high reputation of the business by marketing high-quality goods.
In conclusion They need to label it because of Health,Unhealthy stuff in the food and we need to eat at home more. Those are the reasons why they should label
Along with all the innovative packaging that was being promoted the idea of ‘self-service’ was also slowly being introduced into the consumer life style (Young & Young, 2004; pp.39 – 41). Packaging undertook three evolutionary stages i.e. The Retailer, where packaging was nothing more than a protective layer for the product and the transaction; The Manufacturer, where packaging was used to promote
Labeling food is a good thing. Many people in the world have started working out and watching what they eat. Labeling food can help people choose the food that they want and how to balance it. If food was labeled many people could be in shape and not over weight. Many people that keep a good nutrition because of the labels are slim and in a great physical form. Labeling has proven to decrease the percent of people that are over weight. The author of ,"Label the Meals," stated that ever since it was a law to label food that people have been more physical and productive.
I have seen many new laws form in Michigan over the last 63 years I have lived here. Some were good and some were not so good, but hearing the possibility that H.R.1599 may not pass is very disturbing to me. The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 is a fair and common sense way to address the issue of necessary food labeling, which is why it has my full support. Assigning one body to govern food labeling, nationally, is smart and efficient. I cannot think of a more qualified organization to be in charge of this than the Food and Drug Administration. Having the FDA in charge makes much more sense than allowing the states to run rampant with regulations because the FDA already checks our food's safety. The FDA has scientists and specialists who are extremely knowledgeable in the area of food safety and verifying ingredients. Not supporting H.R. 1599 will lead to unqualified individuals controlling the guidelines; this is very irresponsible. So I ask that you do everything in your power to support this bill and rally support from your colleagues.
I have noticed the absurd price increases in grocery stores lately. For example, I am a baker and one week I went to BJ's and bought a 60-count pack of eggs for $5.99. The next week, that same pack was $12.99! The associates said the increase was because of bird flu, but whatever the cause, I will soon need to get a couple of chickens in the backyard! Who can afford these outrageous prices?! If we didn't have to eat, we'd be rich and skinny! That is why I think it is very important for Congress to ensure we have a single, less costly national standard for labeling food products. The sooner you pass the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015, the better.
The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA or Act), enacted in 1967, directs the Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration to issue regulations requiring that all "consumer commodities" be labeled to disclose net contents, identity of commodity, and name and place of business of the product's manufacturer, packer, or distributor. The Act authorizes additional regulations where necessary to prevent consumer deception (or to facilitate value comparisons) with respect to descriptions of ingredients, slack fill of packages, use of "cents-off" or lower price labeling, or characterization of package sizes. The Office of Weights and Measures of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, U.S. Department of Commerce, is
I don't live in town and I'm not a farmer, but I live out close to farmers. My children have a chance to help out on the farm and do those kinds of things once in a while. They stay in touch with it. Though I don't farm, a lot of our family members - my wife's brothers - they're farmers, and I'm sure they would be very concerned about H.R.1599. It places the FDA in charge of standardized labeling and ensures that the food labeling does not become so overbearing that it drives the prices. I think where we're from in the heart of the country, most people understand the importance of agriculture. Somehow we have to have the input to say hey, this isn't going to work in Kansas or Nebraska or wherever in the heart of the country where there's lots of food produced. If every state has its own standard, that will make challenges for anybody who does business across state lines.
Food labels are an essential tool for any consumer looking to make informed decisions. Yet while labels are useful, food labels are only required to list information the FDA determines is necessary. Providers are not required to list key ingredients unless the FDA specifically says so; making it harder for people to make informed decisions if the FDA determines that a piece of information is not important enough to list.
Packages carry important product information about ingredients, quantities, nutritional value, use, sell-by dates and much more.
After television ads, packaging is the most effective form of marketing foods for children. Packaging attracts kids with color, fun characters that they can relate to, and toy prizes in the box that may cause the children to just want the toy
