In case study nine, “The Family I Have,” we explore the relationship life of a Jewish girl named Myra during her adolescent years. Her story primarily focuses on her family relationship issues being that she neglected her family for her friends and other aspects of her life. This case study explores the relationship transition from family first to friends first as Myra went from childhood to adolescents. Like many adolescents, Myra’s shift is further driven by the newfound independence of adolescence, However, her desire for independence and means to gain it may have been more extreme than the stereotypical adolescent, causing turmoil in her and her family’s lives. Her story also analyzes the concept of family and the roles that each member plays within the unit. Eventually, Myra tries to strengthen her relationship with her family during her college years but wonders if it’s too late because the damage of their roles is already done.
Collective research focusing on family-school partnerships provide an extensive examination of parent involvement. Smith et al., (2011) referred to parent involvement as school, family, and community partnerships for the purpose of shared expectations, responsibilities, interests, and correlating influences of family, school, and community. Epstein’s (2008) framework of parent involvement approached parent involvement typologies from an institutional perspective; the framework for this literature review was conducted with a parental perspective that may positively affect academic achievement among students in 6th – 12th grades attending high poverty, rural schools. An explanation of Epstein’s six categories of parent involvement follows:
In the article, "The Undercover Parent" by Harlan Coben, the author talks to the audience about why he thinks all parents should watch their children on the internet. Coben uses pathos more than anything else when trying to reach out to his readers. Coben uses some tactics to get the reader to trust what he says. One specific tactic is that he acknowledges the reader's feelings. He also manipulates the reader by reducing the negative feelings that they have when they read this article and replace them with positive feelings. Then he is finally increasing the fear enough that the reader will feel obligated to put spyware on their kid's computer so that they can protect them from the horrible thing found on the internet.
Harlen Coben in an editorial titled “The Undercover Parent” (March 16, 2008) claims that parents should have conversations about their concerns with teens, and let them know how spyware is a possibility.Should parents of teens and tweens go undercover? Harlen Coben, the author is trying to make parents have conversations with their teens and tween about internet safety, and let them know if spyware is a possibility. I agree but in some opinions i disagree with Coben and his prediction. If you put spyware on your computer, you have the ability to log every keystroke your child makes and thus a good portion of his or her private world. That’s what spyware is at least the parental monitoring kind. You don’t have to be an expert to put it on your computer.

¨The Undercover Parent¨ by Harlan Coben, published in an online newspaper (NewYorkTimes.com, March 16,2008), claims that the Internet is dangerous for kids. Harlan Coben explained how spyware could keep track of our kids, but it also invades the sons’ and daughters’ privacy. He also claims that parents should have conversations about their concerns with teens, and let them know spyware is a possibility. Coben started with an anecdote about spyware, presenting the topic, acknowledging hesitation, recognizing how parents feel, countering parental arguments, stating counterarguments, argues and claims about eavesdropping, suggests that parents should use spyware, and encourages the parents to use it. The author’s purpose is to warn the audience
This article, The Undercover Parent, addresses the dilemma of the privacy of american children today. It is assumed in the article that there is a broad belief in america that teens should have their privacy and be trusted with the technology that they are using. The author argues against this and claims that parental oversight is necessary with teens today. He mostly argues that the safety of the child is at stake and that predators have the ability to prey on teens that aren't wise. The author brings up the point that it having talks with your child about uncomfortable topics such as pornography is important, and that it is easier to have these talks when they have some sort of context. Then he goes on to give an example of a father
First off, I am an educator. I need training because I am teaching kids. My kids. I have not done this before. Even if I had a third grader two years ago and I have another third grader this year, I have not taught this third grader. And that also means I have a sixth grader. Wow. I am pushing myself to learn and to model learning. I want to equip myself to use the tools that I have and develop those that are not in my skill-set. Not just for my children, but for myself as well.
