Five reasons I go to the CC Parent Practicum each summer. By Kim Ford, 10th summer of parent practicum-ing First off, I am an educator. I need training because I am teaching kids. My kids. I have not done this before. Even if I had a third grader two years ago and I have another third grader this year, I have not taught this third grader. And that also means I have a sixth grader. Wow. I am pushing myself to learn and to model learning. I want to equip myself to use the tools that I have and develop those that are not in my skill-set. Not just for my children, but for myself as well. Secondly, I am a mom. I need to get outside of myself and be involved in other people’s lives. It helps me see that the world is bigger than my four. Not surprising, in the exercise of stepping out, I also realize that I have something to offer others beside a Kleenex to wipe a nose or a diaper wipe to clean a bottom (not that those things are not important)! …show more content…
As a homeschool parent, there are plenty of frustrations, unmet expectations (of myself), and basic panic feelings that I will mess up my children with this homeschool-experiment. Attending practicum reinforces to me that I am not alone. My fears and concerns are not unique to me, but they will become bigger than me if I isolate myself. I need friendship. I need iron sharpening relationships. And basically just because I “home” school does not mean I need to be isolated or alone in my home. Bottom line: I need other humans (and no surprise: so do my little
Children and young people should feel happy, safe, respected and included in the school or early years setting environment and all staff should be proactive in promoting positive behavior in the classroom, playground and the wider community. Policies and practice which make sure the safety and wellbeing of children should already be in place and it is this legislation develop through many years and experiences, and mistakes, that underpin the working practices that are used today.

I enjoy spending my spare time with my children, this always helps me relax and unwind after a very stressful day as they always put a smile on my face. Over the year, I have watched children grow physically, mentally and academically. Despite problems they may face at home, these children want to play and fun with a smile on their face. This gives me motivation to become a social worker that I can help improve their lives.
In order for our children to want to learn we as parents and child care
There are three points that show that students who are homeschooled can be adequately prepared for the rigors of college academics and the social setting it provides. The first has to do with socialization. It seems that
There is a vast amount of research using the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory in order to assess risk factors for child maltreatment. Although, past research has focused on risk factors of child abuse using the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory and ways to increase protective factors; literature has seemed to have left out Child Protective Service’s involvement as a protective factor for child maltreatment. It is unclear if this gap in the research is due to lack of evidence based research to confirm the hypothesis that Child Protective Service is in fact a protective factor. However, this is why this research is so important to the field of social work, as well as, other helping professions. It is hypothesized that families with a history
Not long ago, my parents received an endless amount of criticism, similar to the Walls’ family, for their decision to homeschool my siblings and me. Many “feared” for us, because according to them, there was no way we were going to learn effectively at home, what we could in a formal school. My mom tells me stories of how people she’d known expressed genuine concern over the idea of educating children in a different way than what is deemed “normal.” I do not blame these people for their concern, as they were raised in a society that emphasizes a single approach to learning. Although there were definitely times growing up when I wished to attend a brick and mortar school like “normal” people, after a certain age I genuinely appreciated my parent’s decision. Being home-schooled has taught me so much more than just the basic principles of education. I grew up being highly self-reliant due to my online school requiring students to be almost entirely responsible for keeping up with their work. Similar to college, I had a syllabus provided to me, and had no one other than myself to make sure I was on top of everything. This helped me to become a responsible and well-organized individual. I also gained a quality education, despite all of the fear and concern of those around me. I still have to answer the questions, “Why were you homeschooled?” and, “Didn’t you want to go to regular school?” more
In the article, Kai argues that parents should be required to take parenting classes. Sophie Thomas gives some experience to three mothers, and she strongly disagrees with the idea that parents don’t need to take parenting classes. Kai’s article is the better of the two, because Thomas’ uses own experience to support he claims, however, Fernandez has better evidence to back her claims.
I feel this activity was difficult, although I am married and do have everyday bills and I do have to make tough financial decisions daily, some of the questions did not have the option I would choose. On one of the questions it asked about a free concert, but I couldn’t attend because of child care, I have been very blessed to have my mother close who helps me if I need help with my kids wither for a night off, school or work. I do understand some do not have that blessing and have to either choose to spend the money for child care or stay home. I am a parenting program coordinator so I run into a lot of families that the only break they get monthly is my program because I offer free child care. I feel that organizations in our community are trying to come up with programs for families to help them in many ways in attempt the reduce child neglect, abuse, and relief of financial burdens.
What is evolution ? It is the genetic change in population from one generation to another. It describes how over many generations can result in new development of new varieties and species. Science convincingly supports evolution by natural selection and can’t be understood without it. I can rest assured you that evolution does not conflict with religious beliefs, by questioning theological study. Science is not based on faith , nor does it preclude Faith. Whatever personal beliefs teachers, students, parents or administrators may hold is totally their personal preferences, but their personal practices will be conducted outside of this institution. This science curriculum only describes and explains the natural world it
Now and then walking through the store I have seen a parent do something and suddenly I think how dangerous, annoying, or abusive. I would think they should not be a parent and I would have never done something like that and there should be a law against what they are doing. Licenses are used in our everyday lives, we need a license to drive, hunt, and serve liquor. Having children is not always a well thought out decision. Parenting might as well be considered one of today's most challenging and demanding jobs. Considering how important the job of being a parent is, you should be required to obtain a license to become a parent.
One of the articles in the general principles of the children’s convention stated about the child’s best interest. According to the Article 3 of the children’s convention, the factors need to be taken into consideration when dealing with the child is his or her best interest. In many cases, the best interest of a child involved with the adult person. The examples of adult person are the parents, teachers and guardian.
One advantage of homeschooling is its ability to integrate learning into everyday life. A homeschooling schedule allows for flexibility in planning. For a person attending public school, a doctor’s appointment in the morning causes the student to miss a class, after which they will have to be filled in afterwards by the teacher. In a homeschooling situation, the appointment simply comes between lessons rather than during them. Even the drive to the clinic allows for time to work on homework. Afterwards, the school day continues as normal, right from where it was left off at home. This means that even when taking a vacation there is time to study or learn in free time. Even during summer vacation, small amounts of review can be conducted to prevent forgetting what was learned during the school year. Homeschooling also allows children to learn in their preferred style. Whether it is
