Defunding Planned Parenthood
Although my view is consistent with a capitalistic micro government, Planned Parenthood should have more government restrictions. Most people would beg to differ for several reasons. This issue has a two sided debate and there is no wrong or right answer. The only way to come down to a fair conclusion is by making a pros and cons list, so one can see each side instead of being close-minded. Planned Parenthood has been controversial due to the services it provides to women and teens in the United States, however the government enforce restrictions in order to prevent corruption. Planned Parenthood is a huge provider for women, teens, and families. According to their website they describe themselves as, “…leading providers of high quality, affordable health care for women, men, and young people, and the nation’s largest provider of sex education” (Planned Parenthood, 2015). They have about 700 health centers around the United States, which cater to both men and women. They are open all year long and they have outreach to more than five million women, men, and adolescents worldwide. They provide them with birth control, counseling, breast exams, STDs testing, etc. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization to the public, which has eight million activists, supporters, and donors working for women’s health and safety and our fundamental reproductive rights according to their website. This organization cares for their patients and only three
In January 2016, Congress passed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, a family planning group that runs more than 800 reproductive health clinics across the United States. They wanted to cut Planned Parenthood because they perform abortions. Most people don’t know they only do them for certain situations. If you were raped and the pregnancy is still early they will perform it. If the pregnancy was included in incest they might terminate it due to problems that would be cause in the baby due to alike DNA. In other cases if the pregnancy was harming the mother they might also do it then. That's not all what planned parenthood does though. They also have operations that include prevention pregnancy by distributing birth control and free condoms. They also educate the public about contraception, they reduce the spread of STD’s through education, testing, and treatment. They also screen for cervical and other cancers. Planned Parenthood offers so much but cutting tax funds they wouldn’t be able to offer a lot of those things. More than 5 million men and women world 5 million men and women worldwide use their services
Planned Parenthood is one of the most controversial organizations in the United States. It is an organization that helps a woman in need if she wants to abort a baby for any reason. Planned Parenthood defines themselves as: “A trusted health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate, and a global partner helping similar organizations around the world.” (plannedparenthood.org) Planned Parenthood is one of the most debated topics among the presidential candidates and obviously there are two major different viewpoints from the Democratic and Republican side on this organization.
Planned Parenthood is a widely known nonprofit organization. They are the health care provider for millions of people within our nation. When people hear the words Planned Parenthood they automatically assume abortion. Yes, abortion is a service that they offer yet, they deliver much more than that. They deliver and educate us about birth control, cancer, men and women’s sexual health, pregnancy, sexual orientation and offer the Morning-After Pill (emergency contraception) and sexually transmitted disease screenings. Planned Parenthood is a large organization. “Planned Parenthood consists of 159 medical and non-medical affiliates, which operate over 650 health clinics in the United States. It partners with organizations in 12 countries
Planned Parenthood should not be defunded because more than 2 million people would be without basic healthcare ("What It Really Means to "Defund" Planned Parenthood."). Although skeptics have the concern that Planned Parenthood is just an abortion clinic, they provide far more, including, family planning, contraceptives, STI testing, cancer screenings, and many other basic health services for women, men and youth, especially those below the poverty line.
In the past year Planned Parenthood has been the topic of discussion in the Government and political circuit. A scandalous video came out this past year from an anti-abortion group who recorded employees of Planned Parenthood discussing the selling of fetal tissue to companies. Planned Parenthood has denied those allegations. It has been a heated argument among Democrats and Republicans, to keep, or to defund the organization. The issue was taken to the U.S. House of Representatives to discuss its fate in September of 2015 (Walsh, 2015). The bill did not end up passing, but many are still pushing to completely rid of the organization (Walsh, 2015). So, should the Government defund Planned Parenthood?
Planned Parenthood is a controversial topic sweeping the nation of America with political and moral issues. Every day one could come across a new article on it, stubble upon a news article in their local paper or even on their local news station. Planned Parenthood directly provides reproductive health services, is involved in teach young students about sexual education, contributes to research in reproductive technology, and interacts with legal and political efforts aimed at protecting and developing reproductive rights.
Central Idea: Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides essential health services to both men and women.
Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides healthcare and education to both men and women, having over 650 health centers that provide healthcare to countless communities around the world. Shockingly, 78% of those who use Planned Parenthoods services live at or below 150% of the federal poverty line, showing how important this organization is to low-income families (Topulos, Greene, Drazen). Their mission statement is “A Reason for Being”, which is shown through their efforts to provide health care, advocate public policies, create educational programs, and endorse research. There are those who do not believe Planned Parenthood should be funded by the government, though, due to the fact that they provide abortions to women in need. Studies show that the effects of not having Planned Parenthood available are disastrous, causing low-income families to lack a healthcare provider and the number of those who are infected with STD’s and STI’s to rise. The biggest concern communities have about the government defunding Planned Parenthood is the effects that it would have on low-income families who would no longer have access to something that many people take for granted: health care. Although many believe that Planned Parenthood mostly provides abortions, in reality, only 3% of the people that seek help from them receive an abortion, while 97% receive affordable and, in many cases,
Government, a social institution, is being beneficial for Planned Parenthood until and if a new law is passed that will discontinue the funding, then it will become detrimental for people that rely on Planned Parenthood. The functionalism of the government is very complicated. Congress and its members have more power than a president in making
Since many believe that Planned Parenthood only performs abortions, a frenzy against it has been created. “We don’t want to commit taxpayer funding for abortions, and Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider” (Strickland quoting Paul Ryan, 2017). Republicans rather see federal funding go towards federal community centers. However, to clarify this misconception we need to look at what federal funding is going towards. Planned Parenthood receives its funding from Medicaid reimbursements (Berg, 2017). They do not keep any hidden money, or have money put aside to preform free abortions. As the federal money that comes in goes straight towards helping patients.
Many who are against PP want you to believe exactly that and nothing more. The reality of the matter though, is that 0% of money that is being funded by the government is legally allowed to go towards abortions. Every dollar that the government funds towards Planned Parenthood helps men and women pay for HIV/STI testing, different types of birth control, annual exams and screenings for life threatening
Planned Parenthood supplies countless benefits for the physical health of maturing men and women. For instance, ten percent of their jobs involve performing cancer screenings (Screenings). Without the examinations, a great number of people
Birth control, condoms, examinations, intrauterine devices, safe sex advice, discussions about identity, the list seems to go on forever. Everything stated and more is what all sexually active or simply curious individuals should know about and have access to no matter their monetary situations. Planned Parenthood is one place where people have access to all of these. Opposed to popular belief, Planned Parenthood is more than just an abortion clinic. In fact, abortions were not preformed until its legalization in the United States in 1973 (Our Bodies Ourselves). The debate over Planned Parenthood needs to come to an end, and funding must continue in order to ensure the safety of those who choose to be sexually active.
Planned Parenthood has been around for about 100 years and is the primary womens’ provider in America. In 1916, when it first opened its doors, it had a clear and simple goal: “Women should have the information and care they need to live strong, healthy lives and fulfil their dreams.” Throughout the years they have fought to keep women's fundamental right’s safe and legal. Abortion is one of the things that Planned Parenthood supports women with. They believe that the only person deciding what to do with the pregnancy is the individual themselves. As a matter of fact, 3 out of 10 women partake in an abortion before they turn 45. (Abortion, Planned Parenthood). Not only do they perform abortions when necessary, they go out and inform young adults about safe sex and birth control. They are trying to lower the numbers of unwanted pregnancies, but do not judge or questions mothers when they do come in for an abortion. They were very proud when the Roe v. Wade law passed because women could finally practice abortion safely and legally. They believe that a legal abortion is the safest way to end an unwanted pregnancy. Before abortion was legal, illegal abortions sent many women to the hospital, and many others to the grave. They are working very hard to keep abortion legal in the United States because they value the life of the women and her freedom of making the decision of her own
Health Services. Planned Parenthood provides their services to women as well as men- it is a resource to be utilized by all. It is a common misconception that PP is for women only. They offer reproductive health care for men, women, and teens. They supply every FDA approved method of reversible birth control. These include natural family planning methods, Norplant, Depo-Provera, Birth control Pill, IUD (intrauterine device), condoms, Diaphragm, and cervical caps. Something that they offer is emergency contraception or the “morning after pill.” It decreases the likelihood of becoming pregnant even after the conception, because it decreases the healthy nature of the uterine wall. It is only effective within seventy-two hours following conception. They also offer walk-in pregnancy testing, options counseling and
