One of the magazines I chose to discuss was the parenting magazine. in this issue it the cover did not fit the typical "Media Fixations" (article) of the rich famous Caucasian woman. there was some differences with this particular cover it displayed a Asian mother and daughter, although both mother and daughter was seen smiling and gazing in to each other eyes. In the magazine it also discussed different articles that discussed how parents can assist their children in learning to dress themselves, examples on how mothers can stay fit, parent approved toys and quick easy steps for thanksgiving recipes. In this particular magazine it seems to be written for parents but aimed only for stay at home women, in the article to assist
In the article, "The Undercover Parent" by Harlan Coben, the author talks to the audience about why he thinks all parents should watch their children on the internet. Coben uses pathos more than anything else when trying to reach out to his readers. Coben uses some tactics to get the reader to trust what he says. One specific tactic is that he acknowledges the reader's feelings. He also manipulates the reader by reducing the negative feelings that they have when they read this article and replace them with positive feelings. Then he is finally increasing the fear enough that the reader will feel obligated to put spyware on their kid's computer so that they can protect them from the horrible thing found on the internet.
Featherstone looks down on publications that emphasize most of their print on Fashion, relationships and celebrities and advocates for magazines that stimulate intellectual growth, promote a healthy body image and include diversity. As an active journalist, columnist and activist, Liza Featherstone makes a good point in her article all while using most abundantly three rhetorical tools: logos, ethos and pathos that she wove into a studied text organization and a simple writing style. It is through ethos that Featherstone does a great job at defending her viewpoint, because her argument lacks a lot
However, they"(Morin, 2015) do "allow exceptions to the rule"(Morin, 2015). Authoritarian Parenting establishes rules but expects that the children/child will follow them without exceptions. Permissive Parenting tends to be lenient and only tends to get involved when there is a serious problem. Uninvolved Parenting is neglectful, they seem to "not meet"(Morin, 2015) the "children's needs and expect"(Morin, 2015) them "to raise themselves."(Morin, 2015).
“The Undercover Parent” is an article about the author, Coben, finding out that his friends had installed spyware on their son’s computer to monitor him and coming to the realization that it’s a good precaution. Throughout the article, Coben explains and gives examples of how monitoring your child’s every keystroke is a good thing, and I agree with him.
“The Undercover Parent” is an article about whether or not parents should get a software that watches teens and children’s actions on the computer. So should parents of Teens and Tweens go undercover? Harlan Coben, the author of “The Undercover Parent” editorial (19 March 2008) from the New York Times online website claims that parents should have conversations about their Internet safety concerns with their teens and tweens, and let them know that Spyware is a possibility. I agree with what coben is arguing about. It talks about specific details on either giving parents an option on if they should download it or not, so the author writes good things and bad things about it. It's not snooping or spying on your teens. It basically for their safety. If they still had this software in the future, I would get this because everything the author says about this software is very agreeable. I would do it for my
A Florida woman arrested on manslaughter charges in the death of her 18 day old son I being held due to the fact that this is the second of her children to die in the same manner. 25 year old Erin Piche-Pitts of Winterhaven Florida is facing charges in the death due to her co-sleeping with the infant. This isn't the first time that Piche-Pitts has lost an infant child due to co-sleeping.
There are three main types of parenting styles: authoritative, permissive, and authoritarian. There have been many studies conducted in an attempt to gain insight on the efficacy of the parenting styles aforementioned. Studies have found each of the respective types has varying parenting philosophies and effects on the children they are used on. Authoritative parenting is often regarded as the best parenting style and it is characterized as high in warmth and high in control. Authoritarian tends to produce negative results in children, as it is characterized as being low in warmth and high in demand (Sartaj & Aslam, 2010). Permissive parenting yields the worst effect for the outcome of children, characterized by high in warmth and low in control (Aldhafri, 2011). Factors such as culture and child behavior can affect parenting styles but parenting styles influence factors such as academic self-efficacy, behavior and social skills in children, so it is important for parents to be mindful of which style they use. Because of these factors my parents have taken on an authoritative parenting style, which has cultivated
In the article by Belinda Luscombe;A Tale of Two Summers for Parents, I see that most of the time the heat and screaming children isn't the worst part of the summer, it's the planning of it. Although it sounds like fun because you get to choose what you want to do during the summer it doesn't always go as you imagine it to go. This article will tell you what some families go through when planning last minute, the outcome for parents that just leave their children at home alone, and how much you get paid depending on your age.
The study examined and focused on the print version of Teen Magazine during its publication form 1990 to 2012. The researcher examined ten issues ranging from the years 1996, 2000's-06, and 2011/2012, which included non-fiction stories, poetry, and excluded "Letter from the Editor" that contained some movie/book
Many psychologists throughout history have indulged in studies related to parenting behavior and how children are affected from such behavior. The work of Diana Baumrind, which is considered to be one of the most influential and well-studied theories of parenting behavior, was the first to identify three styles of parenting (Sclafani 44). These styles of parenting are called authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive. This paper will further explain descriptions of these styles and the typical behaviors of children as a result of each style. This paper will also provide insight on the parenting style I was raised on along with my thoughts on types of discipline I might use in the
When romance starts budding behind the scenes, even co-stars can see it blossom. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s romance was well kept but “Twilight” star Ashley Greene has some key secrets to spill about the couple’s behind-the-scenes moments.
The majority of these article are about lifestyle, architecture and luxury. It’s one of the successful magazine running in the industry. While looking at the magazine the cover of the magazine grabbed my attention. It had Jennifer Aniston sitting naked wearing a tie which covered some of her body parts. While on the other side of the magazine it shows George Clooney wearing a luxury suit and he’s all covered up. As we can see, the media is giving the society a negative portrayal of woman, where they are shown as an enjoyment for others (usually men). As seen, in this picture the model is the centre of attraction to get males attention or approval. While on the other side. the male model is shown standing with confidence and luxury. However as we know these images are commonplace in the mass media, and that woman have accepted these images as
Parenting a child from infant to the adult stage is a full-time responsibility that every parent takes on. The type of style used to socialize their children to conform adequately to the expected standards of conduct to function successfully in their society is the option that is decided by each parent. Since there are different ways of parenting a child, it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the child’s behavior is sufficient to live in society let alone act compliant in it as well. It is interesting to observe the different methods that a variety of parents demonstrate in order to make sure that the children of that society will be considered ‘acceptable’ by the environment itself and of course by the parenting
Max Apple’s story, at first read of the title, had me to believe this was a story about the struggles of parenting a stepchild and to some degree there were some difficulties the stepfather faced. The story is about a blended family and the worries the mother, Helen, has for her daughter Stephanie due to Stephanie’s passion for doing shot put in school. This seemed silly to me simply because the extent Helen went to in preventing Stephanie from advancing in the sport. Helen’s main concern was that Stephanie would not become lady like and turn into a masculine type of young women.
Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibility and difficult decision making. You always have your child's best interest at heart, but sometimes your child may disagree with the rules you have set down. That is why, I believe, the perfect parenting style is democratic. You can compromise with your child, but still have basic rules you want them to follow, without them feeling targeted or that you are being unfair. When i become a parent, I want to make sure my children have guidelines. I want them to be able to make their own mistakes and learn from them. Their health, their type of entertainment and the toys they play with are three major, broad categories that I would like to have a say in, along with their input of course.
