Abortion is one of the biggest problems in America, that is frequently argued, leaving behind the central question, “Should Abortion be Legal?” Abortion is “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.” (Google’s Definition) Abortion shouldn’t be legal, it is the murder of a human being. As of today, many different organizations in the US, are being funded for “Partial Abortion” which is “the killing of an unborn baby of at least 20 weeks by pulling it out of the birth canal with forceps, but leaving the head inside.” (http://www.dividedstates.com/abortion/) with money from Taxpayers. It has been known that, “Abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood continue to receive hundreds
The “Planned Parenthood Federation of America” is a non profit organization, funded by the Federal Government, in which it provides reproductive/maternal health services among the United States as well as internationally, since 1952. In recent news developments, there have been rumors that Planned Parenthood practices “inhumane” procedures when aborting an unborn baby to harvest their organs and that a law should be passed to stop this. The supporters for Planned Parenthood claim that these claims are unfounded and believe that Planned Parenthood is a wonderful association that helps women and men all around the world. This issue has caused a series of debates that have been going on for years, but Planned Parenthood still lives on.
The United States Government should fund women's health care programs which supports reproductive health, safety against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, and if needed, abortions. More and more facilities such as Planned Parenthood, those who help women looking for abortions, are being shut down because of lack of funds. Melissa Reed, president & CEO of Planned Parenthood Keystone, said March 13 that the life terminating business “has made the difficult strategic decision to consolidate health services by closing two centers located in Easton and Bristol to reduce the costs of duplication associated with running two sites in close proximity to others.”(life site) The government should fund abortions because if a woman wants to do it then she should have the right. They can't control other people's bodies.
Congress has sparked a debate as to whether or not the government should continue funding Planned Parenthood. Too many people are uneducated about the many services Planned Parenthood offers to those who would not be able to afford it otherwise. The debate began after a heavily edited video was released accusing Planned Parenthood of selling fetal organs for a profit. The selling of any body part is against federal law. CNN released an article confirming to the public that it was indeed an edited video by inputting the original and comparing it to the altered one. Planned Parenthood does donate tissue, but only for scientific research, and solely acquires reimbursement for the expenses. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization.
In today’s society, there are many topics that cause a lot of uproar and controversy. Certain topics like politics, homosexuality, and climate change are just a few topics that are debated on a daily bases. One other topic that has been debated on for centuries is abortion. Abortion is the ending of pregnancy before birth; this results in the death of a fetus or an embryo. Abortion happens in different countries around the world, but it is commonly known in the United States. The United States is one of only seven countries in the world where abortion is legal in some states. Many people know about abortion and what it is, but what some people do not know is that there are several different types of it. Just a few types of abortion are early abortion, late-term abortion, and partial-birth abortion. There is early abortion, which is when the pregnancy is terminated before the fetus is available, and then there is late-term abortion, which is when an abortion is performed after the second trimester. The most crucial type of abortion, partial-birth abortion, is a form of late-term abortion that ends a pregnancy in which the fetus is removed intact and results in death. Although some people believe abortion is not the best decision to make and that it should be illegal, early abortion is a little better than late-term abortion. All in all, late-term abortion should be banned because it is similar to killing a fully developed child.
Abortions only make up three percent of the procedures done at Planned Parenthood clinics (“2014 2015 Annual Report”). There are a variety of other life saving and essential health care procedures done at the clinics, such as STD and STI testing, pregnancy tests, contraception, exams, and other health issues relating to both men and women. Many people believe that the federal government should defund planned parenthood; however, this would make it almost impossible for many low-income individuals to receive the care that they need. The federal government should not defund Planned Parenthood (PP) because abortion is not a valid reason for opposing funding because it is allowed by law, low-income individuals and families need the affordable
Planned parenthood has been a topic of controversy the last couple of years, as people throughout the nation ask whether or not the healthcare organization should be defunded. When video footage was released in 2015 of “Planned Parenthood medical officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue to researchers,” it seemed likely that federal funds would be revoked as backlash from the public was noted (Welch). Although the nonprofit organization does offer the termination of unplanned pregnancies, the organization offers many more services to women and men, such as free birth control and yearly health checkups “backed by medical experts and more than 100 years of research in reproductive health” (Planned Parenthood). As many people struggle financially to provide for their families, Planned Parenthood’s services are a relief to those who otherwise would not be able to afford healthcare, which is why the organization should not be defunded.
Since many believe that Planned Parenthood only performs abortions, a frenzy against it has been created. “We don’t want to commit taxpayer funding for abortions, and Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider” (Strickland quoting Paul Ryan, 2017). Republicans rather see federal funding go towards federal community centers. However, to clarify this misconception we need to look at what federal funding is going towards. Planned Parenthood receives its funding from Medicaid reimbursements (Berg, 2017). They do not keep any hidden money, or have money put aside to preform free abortions. As the federal money that comes in goes straight towards helping patients.
Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that does research into and gives advice on contraception, family planning, and reproductive problems. Recently Planned Parenthood has had controversy for many pro-life members creating videos that pro-life members have altered to making many believe Planned Parenthood organizations harvest and sell fetal body parts, and give abortions when they women are too late during their pregnancy. While Planned Parenthood has showed how they are federally funded, where money comes from to support their organization, and how pro-life members falsely accused them of harvesting and selling fetal parts many are still concerned. Do to recent controversy that Planned Parenthood has harvested and sold fetal body parts many believe Planned Parenthood shouldn’t be supported but, considering the accommodating services offered by Planned Parenthood it should remain federally funded. Planned Parenthood should remain federally funded because of their accommodating services, promoting research and technology in reproductive health care,
Unlike the government in A Brave New World the United States government does not require anybody to take birth control pills or have an abortion. However, it is still offered to a variety of females. “Pro Life Actions” lets us know that 75.4% of females between the ages fifteen and twenty-nine get abortions once finding out that they are pregnant. This percentage would be higher if it wasn’t for the certain restrictions abortions had. Based on “Religious Tolerance’s” website, a female cannot have an abortion after her first trimester. If she does get an abortion after the first trimester, it is considered to be killing an actual human being. Although abortion clinics are available for all females, most of the females do not know who actually funds these clinics.
Planned Parenthood a program that has been servicing communities for over 100 years by providing sexual health care and preventative services for women and men is going to be possibly defunded by the government according to “the Grand Old Party”, or Republican Party. In an order to avoid government a shutdown in efforts to save federal funding, the government will defund Planned Parenthood for one year to create financial savings. According to the Washington Post, “Planned Parenthood receives about $500 million annually from the government (Paquette, 2015, p.1)”. The bill that is subject to pass by the government, “prohibits for a one-year period, the availability of federal funds for any purpose to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. or any of its affiliates or clinics, unless they certify that the affiliates and clinics will not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs, an abortion during such period. The restriction will not apply in cases of rape or incest or where a physical condition endangers a woman’s life unless an abortion is performed (H.R.3134 - 114th Congress, 2015-2016).”
In January 2016, Congress passed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, a family planning group that runs more than 800 reproductive health clinics across the United States. They wanted to cut Planned Parenthood because they perform abortions. Most people don’t know they only do them for certain situations. If you were raped and the pregnancy is still early they will perform it. If the pregnancy was included in incest they might terminate it due to problems that would be cause in the baby due to alike DNA. In other cases if the pregnancy was harming the mother they might also do it then. That's not all what planned parenthood does though. They also have operations that include prevention pregnancy by distributing birth control and free condoms. They also educate the public about contraception, they reduce the spread of STD’s through education, testing, and treatment. They also screen for cervical and other cancers. Planned Parenthood offers so much but cutting tax funds they wouldn’t be able to offer a lot of those things. More than 5 million men and women world 5 million men and women worldwide use their services
The issue of abortion is notoriously controversial. Since the Supreme Court’s 1992 ruling in Casey v. Planned Parenthood, states have enacted different restrictions on the procedure. These restrictions vary from state to state. Nineteen states currently have laws prohibiting partial-birth abortion, and forty-one states strictly prohibit abortions except in cases of life-endangerment. One particularly incendiary area of abortion law is that of public funding. However, as of this year there are only seventeen states that cover abortion procedures through public funding. In this paper we will discuss federal abortion legislation, while describing the laws and political ideologies of the following states: Texas, California, New
Unlike sex-selective abortion that has strong characteristics in regionalism and religion, selective abortion due to birth defect, is a more global issue, which decision-making process has been widely studied and debated (Liisanantti and Beese, 2012). In the American context, laws that require a woman to view an ultrasound image of her fetus prior to receiving an abortion, rely on the bonding potential as a means of dissuading women from their decisions to terminate (Jennifer, 2015). The routine application of prenatal sonography creates a tight connection between sonographers and pregnant women (Hsieh et al., 2009). Nonetheless, the actual role played by the sonographer in influencing decision-making remains an unexplored area in research.
The National Abortion Federation is an organization that supports all of the above views and more and publishes numerous resources covering a wide range of subjects related to abortion for health care providers, medical educators, patients and the public. In face of myths and misinformation about abortion, NAF's resources provide medically accurate information that enables women and the public to make informed choices. Their policy focus on the importance of women having access to safe and legal abortion options. They believe that in recent years Congress has made this impossible by banning safe abortion procedures, voting to make a fetus a person for the purposes of federal criminal law, and restricted access to abortion for federal employees, military dependents, Native Americans, and low-income women. They quote the fact that during his eight year stay in office President Bush has nominated over 200 anti-choice judges to the federal bench, has made a host of other anti-choice appointments to non-judicial posts, and has signed anti-choice legislation passed by Congress, and has used his administration to further policies limiting access to safe and legal abortions. Their view is that abortion providers offer quality care to woman in the face of hostility, harassment, and threats of violence. They advise that reproductive health care providers undertake comprehensive security measures to keep staff and
“There are nearly 1.2 million abortions performed in the United States each year” (Operation Rescue, 2014). That was 1.2 million innocent lives that were ended before they even had a chance to begin. Abortion has been legal for decades now, and it is time to put a stop to all the murdering of unborn children. This senseless killing of an unborn child needs to be recognized for what it truly is, and that is legalized murder. Abortions should be made illegal in the United States because it is taking the life of an innocent person, there are other options out there and lastly abortions are not only harming the unborn child but also cause harm to the mother.
