I joined the Pasion Latin Dance Team my freshman year and it was one of the best experiences I have had at Towson. When I attended the first meeting I expected to only see Hispanics, but that was not the case. Pasion consisted of people from different backgrounds and it welcomed each and every one of them. The board was patient when teaching steps because many of them had never been introduced to the dance styles. Not only did Pasion make time for dance, but it also made time to discuss its own culture, but also by discussion the current event issues surrounding the culture of the other individuals in the room. This environment did not just make as a team, but we became the Pasion family. The experience I had with Pasion exemplifies an inclusive
During the time of the discovery day dance, Trujillo was desiring to dance with the misses. He came across one lady who seemed to be perfect for him, one who stood out better than the rest. She was a fine woman in his eyes. So, he chose her to dance with. They appeared to have had a casual conversation for awhile it seemed.
On Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. I attended Ballet Hispanico at the Detroit Opera House. Ballet Hispanico was founded in 1970 by Venezuelan born dancer, Tina Ramiez after identifying the need to provide Latino dancers with access to training and performance opportunities. Ballet Hispanico is recognized as one of the country’s top Latino dance organizations. Over the past 40+ years, it has provided dance education and outreach programs to New York communities to engage interested residents in a guided exploration of dance and Latino cultures by expanding their knowledge in aesthetic awareness, cultural appreciation, and self-expression.
Penn State athletes are ready to dance at the annual THON. The dance marathon is going to benefit pediatric cancer research. The Penn State IFC or Panhellenic Dance Marathon, known as THON, is going to happen this weekend.
The first dance performance I will be analyzing is “Don’t Fall Asleep”. There were dark red lights coming from the top before the dance began. Overall, there were fifteen dancers. There were many different props such as a bed with blankets on top that were rolling around on stage. Also, there was an acorn head that one of the dancers wore on top of his head. The music in the background was “Sweet dreams (Are Made of This)”. When watching this performance and the movement from the dancers, the story line in my opinion was there was a girl who was trying to sleep but she kept being awaken by these dreams. Her body language, jumping in and out of bed, running around basically made you aware that she was looking or running from something. The surrounding
On Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 8pm, I took a trip to the Public Playhouse located in Cheverly, Maryland to witness the “World Dance Showcase”. The “World Dance Showcase” was comprised of six different dances. However, I decided to focus solely on the dance titled “Night in an English Village Pub” that was performed by Charm City Rapper Sword Dancers. This dance was performed by Sindee Ernst, Miriam Hack, Jack Hemler, Rhonda Keilholtz, Kappy Laning, Megan Philippi, Laura Robertson, Joe Shelby, Alexandra Sjaardo, and Jerry Stein and accompanied by traditional tunes that were played by Cyd Shelby. The movements stemmed from traditional figures by Laura Robertson and clogging steps by Anna Marley. The Charm City Rapper Sword Dancers are stationed in Baltimore, MD but are based on a ritual English dance company. The swords that they employ in their dance were derived from a coal-mining instrument. In total, there were ten performers all of which who were White Americans, mainly woman, and above the age of 40.
On May 18 2016, I attended the La Costa Canyon Dance Recital, “A Night At The Movies”. The show was performed by the school’s dance team, Dance Mavs, and was well executed and rehearsed. The show provided an interesting interpretation of famous movies and their impact on the audience. Famous dances and themes were portrayed throughout the night, allowing for not only an entertaining experience, but an extremely memorable one. The amount of work put into the show was evident and allowed the audience to appreciate each dance with more respect and admiration. It is obvious these shows can take a toll on those performing, so it must be all the more rewarding when it turns out as great as the recital did.

My favorite dance was the contemporary routine with Derek, Jaja, and Alexia. The choreographer, Stacey Tookey, explained that the piece was about bravery in different forms: Derek played a veteran, Jaja was portraying a woman leaving an abusive relationship, and Alexia took on the role of a single mother. I really enjoyed the dance because of the story it was trying to convey; each dancer dove into character and brought out complex emotions through their movements. The dancers connected deeply with each of their stories, even though they were completely different people. They were portraying things that they had never personally experienced in their lives before. They showed the strengths of the characters along with their weaknesses, they

For centuries, Venezuela and Colombia have been home to the unique genre of traditional music called joropo that was believed to have originated in the 18th century within rural settings. Characterized by its African, European and indigenous influences, the term joropo was first used to describe dances and festive events such as parties, family reunions and picnics. Joropo spread across Venezuela and Colombia thus various regions adopted a slightly different style of joropo. Joropo llanero, for example, comes from the Orinoco plains of Colombia and western Venezuela and has grown to have worldwide recognition. Formally identified as Fandango, Joropo llanero has grown to become a genre associated with traditional dancing/singing, the country’s rich history and cultural pride.
I totally agree with you. The media will spin what the president does into what fits their image of him. The media portrayal of the tango dancer made it appear President Obama choose to dance the first time she approached him, but upon reading this article we learn he had declined as then politely gave
Before the show begins, I am in two places at once. I am seated with the rest of the audience, anticipation and casual chatter filling the theatre. I am also “backstage” while my sister Kristal applies makeup and slips into tall white gogo boots. The manager and our long-time family friend, Garry, introduces “the Largest Production of Abba in the World” in his standard announcer voice (Abbamania). The lights are dimmed, the violinists begin playing an upbeat mashup of several Abba melodies from “Super Trooper” to “Take a Chance on Me.” The backup vocalists and lead musicians take their places on stage. Finally Kristal Jackson enters from stage left, costumed as one of the female lead singers of Abba. To me, the women on stage looks a lot like
I slipped quietly in through the double doors, inwardly cringing as the moms observing the lesson from outside stared at me. The young kids bounced around like popping popcorn, babbling noisily as Mr. Eddie’s desperate attempts to get them to listen to him went nowhere. However, once Mr. Eddie noticed me, he introduced me to the children as an “older dancer who is one of the best dancers in the studio”, and the bright room went still as they stared, intrigued, like mice, up at me. As the class proceeded, I perched myself on a folding chair and contemplated the budding dancers having fun. They glanced over at me for approval every now and then, at times disregarding Mr. Eddie’s directions, much to his vexation. He tried giving them multiple exciting games to play, such as the “princess and the frog”, where they hopped across the room like frogs, twirled around like princesses on the other side, and then bounced heavily back across. Though it seemed like they
I attended DancePlus show On Friday December 2, 2011 at 7:30pm at night. It was performed in the Victoria K. Mastrobounno Theater in New Brunswick, New Jersey. There were four different parts that I saw that day. All of the dances were very interesting and very different from each other. All of the dances had its own unique key factor that separated it from each other. I enjoyed the entire show very well. Out of all the dances I had strong reaction to “Lapa’s Lament”. I believe this specific dance stood out to me compared to the other dances from the show. This show had many different factors that stood out from other shows in the entire performance.
