The first dance performance I will be analyzing is “Don’t Fall Asleep”. There were dark red lights coming from the top before the dance began. Overall, there were fifteen dancers. There were many different props such as a bed with blankets on top that were rolling around on stage. Also, there was an acorn head that one of the dancers wore on top of his head. The music in the background was “Sweet dreams (Are Made of This)”. When watching this performance and the movement from the dancers, the story line in my opinion was there was a girl who was trying to sleep but she kept being awaken by these dreams. Her body language, jumping in and out of bed, running around basically made you aware that she was looking or running from something. The surrounding …show more content…
This dance was not a long dance but it was intense. The main dancer who was wearing a red tank with green flare pants that had a split in the leg with yellow ties around the waist, came out in attack mode with outstanding energy. Her body language was hardcore coming out from the beginning. The dancers in this performance ended in a symmetrical line with each dancer doing a dance across stage. The lights were gradually changing to catch your attention. The back drops immediately caught my attention. The back drop went from yellow to green giving emotion to what is going on in the dance. There was a Jamacian style of music in the background or house and time machine. I could hear drums playing. There were very fast transitions trying to keep the audience to keep up but there were constant hard movements such as cha cha dancing and pump dancing. The body being more of twisted and hardcore telling me they knew what they were doing and they were putting their all in each dance they were doing. The movements in this dance was unpredictable, you did not know what dance was next. The energy and movement was so intense and in attack, it was like they were “lifted!” throughout the entire dance. This dance was put in place to almost make you want to get out your seat and join them. It was the most enjoyable dance for me to
In the third section Ms. Donna Wood looks like an African goddess and her body has an unexpected gracefulness. Even stage color was bright reddish, warm atmosphere around the dancer, like a sunrise in the morning. Stage would fill with colors. Music and performer are singing together. A sound of music tempo gets faster. She has the happiest face ever, no pain and no slavery. She jumps, she swings her leg and arms, and even she pulls her dress up and shows her leg an entire dance. Sound and lightening create the environment and good mood. She uses high level of dance than in previous two sections. She moves in between melody. I liked how she uses
Some of the movements executed by the dancers are similar to those executed by dancers in a stepping performance and also in a tap dance presentation. This presentation falls into the group of the new trends of modern dance, in which the choreographer are taking more and more liberty with various dance combinations, and including strong messages in their work. I would definitely attend other dance performance, not only from this company, but also by other companies; and would also recommend this performance, especially to people going through a dark period in their life. This performance finished convincing me that dance is surely the most communicative of the art forms, and that a single presentation can convey more than one
Watching a video of a dance piece called “The Moroccan Project,” choreographed by Alonzo King was quite impressive. Living in San Francisco and taking dance classes brought me to Lines Ballet which is King’s dance studio. I have seen a great deal of different types of dance at the studio waiting for my Ballet classes and there are some great dancers. It comes as no surprise that Alonzo would have such great dancers. It appears that Alonzo King is exploring different cultures in dance in Contemporary Ballet. His near-perfect choreography is articulate, passionate, and graceful- he brings diversity in dance to San Francisco and other parts of the world. This piece articulates the expression of the two dancers coming together yet dancing apart at times- it is a fusion of several different types of dances into one using video editing to create a story about the coming together of two individuals.
My name is Hamzah Sait, the date of the performance was the 23rd of April, and it was located at the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre. The concert was titled Jump Start which means it is the end of the old era and time for the young choreographers and dancers at the university of Arizona to shine and go around the world. The dances were basically performed by UA students that have been practicing throughout the semester, and they call it, spring collection. The names of the performances that I am going to talk about are as the following: The process, from our insides out, and Breakfast Burritos. And the choreographers for the pieces that I am going to discuss are: Tanner Boyer, Kira
The next piece was entitled “Satin and Tulle”. It began with a dancer in pointe ballerina shoes and a leotard coming out towards the audience and dropping pointe ballet shoes in front of us. The dancers were pulling what seemed to be the ribbons on a pointe ballet shoe out from backstage onto the stage. The ribbons were the focal point on this performance. The dancers then became tangled up in the ribbons, almost as if the dancers were lost within their passion of dance, and continued to dance in perfect unision. The dancers would place the ribbons around their necks, like the dancers wanted to harm themselves. With the music, I noticed that whenever the music became very loud and busy, the dancer would
On Wednesday, November 18th, I had the pleasure to attend and watch the Dance Plus’s Fall show. The Dance Plus was performed at the Douglass Theatre, Victoria Mastrobuno Theater. When I entered the show the theatre seemed a little small for such big crowed. I immediately thought there would not be enough seats for all the audience, but somehow it fitted everyone. As everyone got settled down, the dance performance had started. I chose to write about the first performance that was choreographed by the amazing director, Jessica Lange her work was simply wonderful! I loved every little piece of the play. It put a smile on my face watching this amazing work of art. So with that said, I would now like to talk about the dance performance. There were
I became a ballet student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2014. Being a high school student here gave me the opportunity to expand my horizons and take in as much art as I possibly could. During my first fall at UNCSA, I attended the Emerging Choreographers performance and was privileged to see works created by fourth year contemporary majors. These stunning works showed me the possibilities that dance holds to truly convey powerful and meaning messages. One work in particular stood out to me. It was a piece that showcased five dancers all dressed in pedestrian clothing. At first it appeared to be a casual street scene but a the music progressed one girl began making incredible sharp movements as if she was possessed. She made tiny movements of her hands and feet all the while moving a great distance across the stage. The others started going off what she was doing and all moved together as one giant body supporting the girl in the middle. She continued dancing in the most amazing way have many small movements combined with huge movements that made her seem a thousand feet tall. Intrigued I spoke to one of the dancers about the intention of the dance. She told me that the
Although it was sort of hard to determine the mood, because the dancers did not show much facial expressions, the movements helped establish the tone. Some motions triggered signs of conquering. The words spoken through the music also gave encouragement to African American women.
This bibliography is important because it is has allowed me to critically view the sources that I will use for my research paper. I have dissected and deconstructed the data so that I could fully understand them and employ the material effectively. The question I am attempting to answer with my research is to what extent does the arts and specifically dance benefit our psychological body?
Throughout my life I have never really been interested in the dance until last year where I started to accept it. why? Why do we put ourselves through the physical stress to call ourselves dancers? Why do we love it so? I simply found those answers when I started dancing as I saw the potential it gave, showed the importance of teamwork, and the courage it taught.
When you start to watch the choreography, you can see the pain and the struggle. It was almost as a disbelief. At 4:58, you see both dancer in white gowns, with their back against the wall, they lean inwards and outwards, slowly sliding down in pain, and suddenly they tumble. One gets up, and runs around blindly, like she's looking for something. You can really feel something painful, something thats hard to comprehend. A pain that doesn't seem to have a way out. They are in a dark space, a caffe with tables and chairs tumbled over. This performance, can touch anyone, no matter of the way you see

The performance took place at the Harris Theatre. The whole point of Dancestry is to express dance through the ages and historically important tributes to dance. When watching this I was captivated at first. The atmosphere was set entirely in sync with the opening performance. The music built at the right moments, the lighting and effects were phenomenal as well as the costume. I found the dance itself very intriguing, because I had never seen someone dance so elegantly with such an oversized dress. The performer made it looks so effortless and simply beautiful. As it progressed I found myself getting bored with all the repetitiveness included in the dance. The beautiful flowing dress, the smoke, the lights, the experience that was new and exciting for me was

This fall dance concert was filled with joy, darkness, torture, culture, and women's rights, right when you sit down and observe through all 8 dance performances. It would have been 9 dance routines but the dancer who was suppose to perform Hart Broken had an injury, which made a putt off. Nevertheless the show must go on, it starts off with the first and second performance, Xtra Xtra and Scar Tissue. Revealing that both performances were different themes because Xtra Xtra had the dancers in radiant colors and seemed to be energetic, whereas the performers in Scar Tissue were clothed in black attire, such as tutus, dresses, and tights, yet still energetic. This brought to my attention that the whole dance performances were contrast to each other. Throughout the routines of the dance concert, the
