Golf
Golf is a game of passion, frustration and integrity. Many think that golf is a simple game and they would be right in many ways, but simple and easy are two different things that often get confused. Golf could be considered an art form such as when a painter has to use the correct technique, bushes and paint a golfer has to use the correct technique, clubs and accessories. It is a game that needs constant work you will never master it this frustrates most but is why I have such a passion for the game. There is always room for improvement this is what the famous Bobby Jones was meaning when he said “No-one will ever have golf under his thumb. No round ever will be so good it could not have been better. Perhaps this is why golf is the greatest of games. You are not

When playing in matches with mainly beginners and you start to notice the different kinds of golfers. I have grown up with most of the players and have seen the evolution of their abilities. Many players even start to route for and become friends with competitors. This is one of the many great things about competitive golf. Competitive golf also known as matches or tournaments is played the same as what I just explained except people are competing for the best score or ranking. The lower the score the better. I play currently for the high school golf team. The way we do matches is each team member would have a number one through five in best to worst order, then we are split up and put in groups that consist of people that have the same number and skill level we do from different teams. Once with your group you exchange scorecards so you are not only keeping up with your score but other peoples too. Then we play our round in the assigned groups. After everyone is done the scores get tallied to tell who won that particular
You will never believe what I am about to tell you! I have been a golfer since I was in third grade. I took my first golf lessons at the age of eight, and then I took more lessons at the age of eleven. I have been golfing with my dad numerous times, which led to my love for the sport and my interest in continuing. Golf is special to me because it gives me the opportunity to gain more skills, have more patience and drive, and spend quality time with my dad.
In 1741, Jonathan Edwards preached his sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” to his congregation in Enfield, Connecticut. Although the sermon was given to his whole congregation, it was and still is purposefully directed towards unconverted non-Christians. Jonathan Edward’s sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” utilizes provocative diction, unsettling repetition, and belittling metaphors to prove that the only escape from God’s wrath is to convert to Christianity, rather than one depending “upon himself for his own security” (212). Jonathan Edwards challenges his audience to think deeper into his words and converting to Christianity through his provocative diction. In the beginning of the sermon, Edwards says that God possesses
The game of golf looks like a game of simplicity. Many believe that hard work is not required to achieve a perfect swing. However, to be a par golfer one must go through multiple processes including stationary drills, range practice, and competitive play.
Imagine the sun bursting through the trees for the first time of the new day, the smell of freshly cut grass still potent to your nose as you tee the ball up for a round of golf in the cool mist of a spring morning. "That is what brings you back every time, the smell of the air, the coolness of the whether and the beautiful surroundings that make every shot enjoyable." (Suess, PI) This is the game of golf in its finest and most exquisite time to many people and many people it has touched in its long history. Golf is a lifestyle and not just games to people that are avid in playing. The game of golf has a history that is rich in technological advances and personal accomplishments, which through time has shown to shape
The sport of golf requires a lot out of a player physically, but the game is even more mental than physical. It will test one’s will to make it through each hole let alone the full round or season. This mental challenge comes from the time it takes to hit each shot as well as the huge individual aspect it has. When someone is out on the course they are truly alone with their thoughts and golf clubs. There is no feeling in any sport that can compare to that.
Golf to some people is fun to play, but boring to watch. That's how I am I love playing golf, but when It comes to watching I can't stand It because It takes so long for them to hit It and It Is just flat out boring. The length of the courses can change from 100 yards to 500 yards.Imagine trying to hit a golf ball 500 yards.Thats the same as 5 football fields in line that's pretty hard. For beginners in golf It Is so hard for them to hit the ball off the tee,but for professionals It Is like putting the cherry on top of ice cream.
I am teased relentlessly because I do something that I love; golf. “Golf,” Arnold Palmer said, “is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect.” Being a golfer, I hear, “golf’s not a sport” or “It’s not that hard”. People express this opinion because they haven’t played it. They don’t realize that it actually takes a phenomenal amount of practice including lessons, physical strength, flexibility, and an incredible mental control to play this sport. In addition, one has to master the use of fourteen pieces of equipment, no two playing fields are the same and each hole needs to be completed in a ten to fifteen minute period to maintain pace of play. Although a golfer does not have to be the size of Dwayne Johnson, the sport is physically demanding, it is extremely difficult and probably one of the hardest sports to master.
I think I am with the con side, because I think that golf is more of a game than a sport. In my own opinion, I think it’s not a sport because it doesn’t require a specific age or weight. Sport is about moving your body fast and sweating so players can lose weight or build their body muscles. For Golf, it doesn’t require that much of movement. In fact, it is more of a fun game with friends. I would take Soccer as a great example. Because I’m a soccer fan, I know how it works so I will go ahead and explain it. For soccer, players run a lot and winning the match is the motivation for players to do their best in the game and run or play as fast and professional as they can, and that’s how we burn fats and stay in shape. When it comes to Golf, players
Did you ever think that a gentleman's game could relate so much to a seventeen-year-old girls life? Turns out you can relate anything if you try hard enough. Every day is a new day, similar to each hole and golf course is different. You never know what the condition of the golf course will be and you don’t know what the weather might be while your playing. One of the biggest things I follow when I’m playing golf is to take one shot at a time just like the saying “take one day at a time.”
When I moved back to Colombia after one year in the states, I knew two things: 1) I wanted to see more of the world and 2) golf was more than just a game; to me, it could be a way of life. So, I got serious. I began preparing myself for tournament play. I golfed every single day. I had gotten a late start, so I had a lot of work to do to catch up to my peers. I either practiced for two hours or played for four. In time, I’ve learned to see golf as a metaphor for how life works. You're always trying to “score” the best you possibly can.
A matter of opinion has separated a variety of sports enthusiasts apart, due to the ongoing debate of whether golf is a sport or simply a skill. Famed golfer Arnold Palmer declared, “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening – and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented. (ThinkQuest.com)” These words state what every athlete experiences and feels when he/she is turning a double play, making the game winning three point shot, or throwing a hail mary pass for a touchdown. Golfers are athletes too, they train for that big moment just like any other athlete, but
A professor of education at the University of Hawaii Kathryn Au wrote an article on Culturally responsive education titled “Culturally Responsive Instruction as a Dimension of New Literacies” in the article she talks about how she sees culturally responsive instruction as a theme running through literacy curriculum aimed at helping students of diverse backgrounds achieve high levels of literacy in their education. also how the idea behind culturally responsive teaching is that the teaching approach build upon the strengths that students bring from home cultures, instead of ignoring these strengths or requiring that students learn through approaches that conflict with their cultural values. Culturally responsive teaching has the goal of helping students grasp academic concepts through means and content responsive to their cultural values and practices.
The players understand that there is always a new course to play, the best score to get and the new area to negotiate. Even though on a similar course, the players will face with different shots or make a strategy for a hole every time they go out for a round. Playing golf could be a fabulous way for improving the challenge spirit with the players.
I took three months off from golf following that 18 hole disaster. I know that isn’t the normal new beginning for a lot of people. Most would go to the golf course the next day and work hard but that’s not what I needed. I needed time off, I had let golf consume my life for those past four months but now there was a new objective, Knowledge. Knowledge is what I lacked in the game of golf. In February I began my studies of the game. I started with the question “What
I mean come on, we all know that golf can have us feeling gratified one minute to completely heartbroken broken the next. We are out there trying to hit a little white ball straight when only a fraction of a millimeter means you hit it on the green, or in the bunker right. We can hit the best drive of the day and it ends up in a massive divot that had clearly been dug to China, or we could just simply make a terrible swing. Well unfortunately, that's the sport and what makes it such a great game because we have to learn how to overcome those obstacles that are almost always going to occur no matter what. My theory is that, if you committed 100% to the shot, but it just didn't execute the way you planned, then oh well move on to the next. Golfers hear this point more than enough, but it's a factor in the game that has more
