On Friday, Maher welcomed to “Real Talk” Samir Chachoua. He’s the controversial doctor who gained attention last month when Charlie Sheen revealed what happened when he’d gone to see him in Mexico to treat his HIV. Appearing via phone on Dr. Oz’s show in January, Chachoua — who is not licensed to practice in the U.S. — called Sheen “the first adult in history to go HIV negative. The conventional medicine has never done that.” He also revealed that to prove his confidence in his treatment, he’d injected himself with some of Sheen’s blood. Oz — a man whose own track record of quackery is not to be sneezed at — was

I worked directly with the HIV/AIDS population as well as individuals whose behaviors place them at high risk for becoming infected. I am currently the Supervisor for the AIDS Institute Linkage and Navigation Program where I am responsible for overseeing the delivery of services. Jacqueline Reid, a well-known TV host featured in an informational commercial to promote the latest brand of at-home HIV testing, OraQuick. By using her as the face of the product it naturally appealed to a younger audience as well as women of color. Though the commercial only lasted fifteen seconds, the message was very clear. Getting tested publicly may be a deterrent that keeps some from ever getting tested due to fear or embarrassment. However, OraQuick offers the confidentiality of being able to test yourself and find out your status right at home. This creates a major opportunity to increase routine HIV testing among our community. It was also highlighted during the commercial that it only takes twenty minutes to receive your results
Merck is a drug manufacture giant who brings an annual revenue of nearly fifty billion. Prior the Vioxx recall Merck was a highly valued company when it came to its ethical standard. It had consistently toped list for companies to work for (Lawrence & Weber, 2014). In addition to this they were well recognized as a socially responsible company who placed an importance on testing to provide the best quality pharmaceuticals. The Vioxx recall caused a huge blow for the company resulting in lawsuits and drop in company value.
Just as clearly, experience shows that the right approaches, applied quickly enough with courage and resolve, can and do result in lower HIV infection rates and less suffering for those affected by the epidemic. An ever-growing AIDS epidemic is not inevitable; yet, unless action against the epidemic is scaled up drastically, the damage already done will seem minor compared with what lies ahead. This may sound dramatic, but it is hard to play down the effects of a disease that stands to kill more than half of the young adults in the countries where it has its firmest hold—most of them before they finish the work of caring for their children or providing for their elderly parents. Already, 18.8 million people around the world have died of AIDS, 3.8 million of them children. Nearly twice that many—34.3 million—are now living with HIV, the virus [9].

The STARS program is a process that most students have not even heard about, as a first time student myself, I was not even aware that the program existed. Most people might wonder what STARS is, for instance, STARS, however, stands for “Statewide Transfer and Articulation Reporting System.” It is an agreement that mostly a two-year college and most public four-year colleges in Alabama has that give all the transferring of courses taken to a public university in Alabama. In addition, most student wonder how to connect to STARS through their school site, it is an easy process; most colleges will have a link at the top of their website that will lead straight to the STARS site. However, from there STARS will give student instructions on how
In the last several years, Merck’s individual R &D department has not been able to keep pace with declining revenues from existing products. It is only through Mergers and Acquisitions that Merck has supplemented this income.
