While working in an urgent care in New York City for over the last year, I have learned how vital it is to have a team approach when caring for patients. After reading previous students testimonies about the small class size, great student to teacher ratio, and support from everyone in the program I knew that applying to this program would allow me to strengthen my personal education will being part of a team to further enhance my education. I also would be really excited to have access to the patient simulation laboratory because having the opportunity to get a feel for what being in the room with a patient is like will allow me to feel more confident going into the clinical
From my time as an emergency department scribe, I have observed that it is important for physicians to be able to competently work in teams of healthcare providers as it is the quality of care a patient receives that suffers when teamwork is lacking. I believe that early clinical experience is a way to improve teamwork competency in providers and as a result, I went on a quest for medical schools that allow students to gain early clinical experience. I was quite pleased upon discovering that the Yale School of Medicine runs the Longitudinal Clinical Experience which enables students to be involved in patient care right from the start of their programs. I believe that early clinical experience will allow me to improve my teamwork competency and also gain an understanding of other clinical realities that simulations may not adequately model such as the complexities of the healthcare
Requesting permission to teach CLS courses as a means to train and certify A Co Soldiers. Previously a 68W for 6 years on active duty. Planned and taught over 104 weekly medical skills session for the 20th ENG Bde aid station. Planned and oversaw biannual Table 8s to certify 20th ENG Bde 68Ws. Worked at the Fort Bragg Medical Simulation Training Center as an instructor for 9 months. Assisted and taught weekly CLS classes of over 200 hundred
research nurses, through the hospital or at a sponsor level? See, clinical research nurses have no
By being aware of the vastly different needs and expectations that patients have, I would use my best judgment to ensure their comfort and safety. This is not about me; it is about people who hope to recuperate from their pain or illness. I would create a patient-centered environment by conversing with those who feel lonely, empathizing with those who feel frustrated, and encouraging the disheartened.
As one of my nursing instructors would say, “you acted as a prudent nurse would have acted”. You displayed critical thinking skills, nursing judgement, courage, and strength. Great job!
Technological innovations are advancing in practice across all domains of education and industry, and the same is true in nursing education. The use of simulation as a teaching modality is gaining wider acceptance in nursing education in most academic settings. Nurse educators in academic settings are embracing simulation as a teaching and learning method to increasingly implement in nursing curriculum. Simulation is gaining popularity as a means to provide innovative learning experiences and foster a richer understanding of didactic content.
After comparing the 2016 National Patient Safety Goals for Hospitals with my essay, I found we have some similarities and differences. For example, we all think that in order to improve patient care and safety, we should use medicines safely and prevent infection. But we still have some difference.
The three important points addressed and enlisted in this video was first the beginning process of greet a patient, set up a Patient agenda, and Patient Centered skills. Secondly the, (Doctor – Centered Skills). Followed, lastly the Physical Exam & Education process. The Beginning portion, Mr. DRRs. Fortin exclaims that the physicians will greet the patient and take full analysis of patient record and history background and also question the patient status on the symptom of the patient’s diseases. Consequently speaking, the physician will try to build rapport with the patient and sympathies with the patient illness of disease and will care for patient by shows feelings of compassion and consideration towards patient’s health. Moreover the
Using a Human Patient Simulation (HPS) in an interactive simulation is an important tool for assessing student, skills, knowledge and allows for student reflection. (Mompoint-Williams, Brooks, Lee, Watts, & Moss, 2014) .High-fidelity teaching simulations highlight the position that is dominant of students in learning. (Fen-Fen, & Li-Rong, 2016) .These simulations are very popular among the students, thus, These simulations are valuable for mastering of knowledge and skills by students as well as nurturing student self-efficacy. (Fen-Fen, etal., 2016).There is a need for nursing educators to implement HFS in nursing method, where its integration can bridge the gap between nursing practice and theoretical knowledge and enhance critical thinking
Benner, Sutphen, Leonard, and Day (2010) stated that instead of nurses being schooled just in knowledge and skills, they need learning experiences. Nursing is not just an action, but is a state of being. The expert nurse integrates knowledge, skill, and ethics in an ever changing arena (Handwerker, 2012). Adopted from Dreyfer’s model of Skill Acquisition, Patricia Benner provided the nursing profession with her work Novice to Expert, also known as “Benner’s Stages of Clinical Competence”.
After being raised in a medically underserved community, I intend to serve in similar health professional shortage areas. The curriculum at the University of Cincinnati exposes students to primary care clerkships/clinical experiences as early as the first year. This presents a unique opportunity to gain clinical skills, learn patient centered care, enhance communication skills and practice working as a team, in an area I intend to specialize in. Similarly, the College of Medicine’s state-of-the-art simulation center is an avenue to build on clinical skills while providing an educational and safe environment for practicing medicine. Moreover, the college of Medicine is nationally and internationally recognized, with a diverse faculty/student
Growing up in the greater Cincinnati area, I have come to appreciate the opportunities that exist within the city of Cincinnati, including the outstanding hospitals. One of the main things that appeals me to the college, is the ties with various hospitals in the area. The area has a wide range of hospitals including a childrens hospital, a VA hospital, as well as a burn center. Due to these unique hospitals being within such a small radius allows for a wide range of different fields for the exploration to medical students. In addition to the hospitals, the simulation center stood out as an opportunity that I would use as a medical student. I feel like applying knowledge learned in a book or through lecture can really be solidified through
Being in this program will give me an opportunity to have a hands-on experience as a volunteer and be able to explore deeper into medical professions. Volunteering will help me see where my strengths and weaknesses are, as well as develop new skills and build knowledge and experience. Having a hands-on experience will let me familiarize myself with the requirements to succeed in certain careers.
Simulation technology can be described as the reproduction of a real life clinical situation used enhancing nurse learning and help resolving patient safety issues. There are “several types of simulation that are used in healthcare education” (Nelson&Staggers, 2014, p 455). This includes interactive computer programs and human patient simulators. Each of these different simulators allow for nurses to practice critical thinking, clinical judgment, communication, teamwork skills, learn and or brush up on clinical nursing
Simulation is an educational approach that allows nurses to refine, expand, and apply skills and knowledge to sensible medical conditions. The nurses participate in experiences that involve interactive learning to meet the needs of their education. Nurses who engage in simulated learning have the potential to identify specific scenarios while at the same time developing competencies and skills, which improve their learning and experience. Simulation enables healthcare providers to work without panic, thus minimizing the risk of harm to patients. The teaching strategy optimizes the outcomes of care and contributes to patient safety, providing the learners with the opportunity to intervene in clinical situations and experience scenarios with a safe, unsupervised setting without exposing risks to the patients. In this, simulation in nursing enables the learners to acquire knowledge and skills, improve their critical thinking skills to rescue lives, and enhance mental health nursing education.
