How can one man stop a war? Pele can and did just that in 1969 (Buckley 76). Pele is a “God” of soccer. He had a war held at ceasefire so his fans could be able to watch and adore the him. He reached up from nothing to become, uncontestedly, the best player in the world. Pele is a legend, a hard working even at a young age, and compassionate on the field and off the field.
Pelé was born October 23, 1940 with the name Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, named after Thomas Edison (Buckley 8). Growing up he had a deep passion for soccer, but also grew up wanting to be a pilot (Buckley 12). He was announced player of the century by FIFA, (Buckley 110) which is an enormous accomplishment and a honor to even be considered for the award. He is the only man to to be a part of 3 World Cup teams. Pele is a pioneer for soccer in America, he helped create the MLS. He is declared a national treasure, which may be an understatement. Queen Elizabeth must be dazzled by the finesse of Pele, because she gave him honorary Knighthood (“Pele Fast Facts”). Pele is truly a legend and is a worldwide soccer icon. Pele is a proven hard worker, a uncontested legend and a compassionate. Pele remains an international icon for sports even as he has aged. He has done many philanthropic and kind things with his wealth. He is worshipped all around the and hardworking and came on top starting with nothing. He is truly the perfect player receiving zero red or yellow cards (“Pele Fast Facts”). That is the reason he is number ten on the field, but number one in the hearts of soccer fans
