Thank you for that wonderful introduction. I am humbled and excited to be recognized tonight as we celebrate this fifteenth annual women honoring women celebration with tonight's theme "When Perseverance meets Passion." I want to thank WEDC for demonstrating kindness and passion in providing scholarships, encouragement, and mentorship to women who are facing many challenges worldwide. In life, everyone of us face challenges, but it is how we respond to these what I refer to as roadblocks that builds our Passion for others. I believe that perseverance met passion for me as a young girl, ten thousand miles from where I am speaking tonight, as I gazed into the starry skies of Eastern India on my parent's farm and determined that my path …show more content…
Through these experiences, I began to view life as a process where these challenges molded me to be more compassionate to the women around me every day who are struggling on so many levels. Every one of us has a story to share about our lives and how our collective journey has a common thread as women whether born in India, Canada, America, or anywhere else in the world. I believe that this tread that weaves us as ONE is Passion. My story as a farmer's daughter from India where women were not expected to be educated beyond grade school and a belief system where women got married at an early age through an arranged marriage and with an expected dowry payment to be paid in full to the Groom's family, Fortunately, I was able to convince my mother to send me down another pathway that allowed me to follow MY passion and attend college. When I got accepted into medical school with merit, they were happy to let me continue my education. Five years later, I faced my next challenge of getting married without a dowry payment. Thank God, Babu Rao Kakani came forward and married me without accepting a dowry payment from my
There comes a time in life when perseverance shows one’s true potential. The story“Unbroken” written by Laura Hillenbrand shows legendary runner Louie Zamperini and showed how he truly represented that. Throughout this story it displays what the true meaning of perseverance; whether, it’s something as little as staying committed to track or fighting in World War Two and trying to fight for life even if there seems like there’s nothing to fight for. If someone is commited no matter the time or the difficulty that doesn’t just show perseverance, but it shows one’s true ability to fight for and try for something they want to accomplish.
I believe that when you persevere you can accomplish countless things. When someone says perseverance, I believe that people automatically think about working hard and getting rewards after. While working hard is a big part in it, there is more to it. I am going to share a couple of stories that will hopefully change your mind about perseverance.
The tenet perseverance applies to my own life out of taekwondo and my taekwondo journey to get my black belt in multiple ways. This tenet helps me in my life and in my journey by helping me to never give up and reach higher goals in life.
With the contribution you kindly provided this year, we were delighted to provide needed scholarships to dozens of extremely worthy recipients including many young people and women who would not otherwise have been able to participate. I wish you could have met them personally. It was thrilling. Many of the first time attendees commented how inspiring they found the conference, and quite a few are looking forward to participating again next time. Thank you for making that possible.
Perseverance is a mandatory quality to possess. As a matter of fact, perseverance is a blend of spirit and determination. This skill instills motivation and drive into the hearts of others. One does not require special talents or great knowledge to be a vessel in which this quality can be observed. In her essay, First Job, Illiana Roman illustrates a life filled with hard work and perseverance through anecdotes, word choice, and sentence structure.
I wanted to formally thank you for awarding me the $5,000 Thomas B. Snover Scholarship!!! I cannot begin say how thrilled, grateful, and appreciative I am to receive this amazing gift.
Persistence has been an invaluable tool in my life. I have used my ability to persist to overcome challenges in my life. Singing
It is through your gentle heart, which always seeks to uplift others, you facilitated my studies at D’Youville and again your support during the transition to my doctoral program at Duquesne University. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the entire reputable D’ Youville College staff and Professors for their unique support to me as a student, without underestimating Dr. Kushnood Haq, with his office for their kindness and Support while working with them as a student. What I would say, is that D’ Youvile College community have a special space in my heart, for the fact that D’ Youville opened the doors of opportunities for me. I wouldn’t have a college degree, without D’ Youville
The obstacles I face every day and the values I learn from them you can obtain from them are tools to me that help shape and mold me into the person I am.As a freshman in high school, I learned the true value of perseverance. Perseverance helped me overcome failure and motivated me to become a better student and an overall better person. Perseverance is the act of enduring any strong challenge or significant difficulty and committing to the cause no matter what comes in the way. I did exactly that when I started high school and began taking rigorous higher level courses.
Loss of a job, serious illness, childhood abuse, community violence, natural disasters, war violence, and other traumatic events. These are examples of obstacles people may face over the course of their lives. What empowers people to overcome these obstacles?
I am writing to express my sincere thank you for your generous contribution to my education through the Computer Science and Information Systems Endowed Scholarship. I feel so fortunate to have been selected as a recipient of this honor. Your generosity will allow me to pursue my dreams, and for that, I cannot thank you enough.
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful -- they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.
Perseverance is like a shadow. It follows us around, but consequently, we can’t always see it. It’s also like a rainbow, it appears after the harshest of storms. I have heard stories of people and their ideas of perseverance. I have experienced it myself, but I will save that for later. Right now I want to tell you peoples perspective and their stories.
“No, you cannot marry someone from India!” my Pakistani grandparents said to my father. However, he knew he had to marry her as he knew she would make him happy for the rest of his life. My father has always been my source of determination, courage, and commitment. These qualities in combination with his strength of character helped him convince his parents to bring my mother to Pakistan, despite the social ostracism they faced from the extended family. This is one of the many reasons I idolize my father. As such and with being born into a family of engineers, everyone figured I would grow up to be one, too. However, gradually it dawned on me that medicine was my true calling. The ability to directly bring about a positive change in a person’s life is a splendid notion for me. I knew I had to pursue my passion, which was medicine. I knew it was going to be a long journey plagued with trials and tribulations. At the same time, this reality was eased knowing that I would enjoy the unwavering support of my father. Finally, years of hard work culminated into a moment of jubilation when I found out that I was accepted into Dow Medical College, Karachi, the most prestigious state-funded medical school.
