What did you learn about your leadership? Personal Assessment of Strengths and Areas for Development. I have more than one overdone strengths. One of them is over-optimism about people, organization, and trust in the management team. Whether it’s upper level, or middle management, I always feel that they know the best, and they know what they are doing. I only see that everything is done accurately as they are versus how they could or should be. Remaining loyal to others and the organization does cause issues for me, because others don’t normally see it that way. Trying to make things easier for others, or trying to be less of a burden on others is perceived as I have no backbone of myself. Defending the rights of others is seen as I’m just always siding with the others. Ensuring others are valued is seen as what do I need from them. Being sincere is seen as I don’t know what I’m doing, and am very easy to please, so I can be ignored. Involve family and friends to point out to me when I’m over using my strengths. This will make me aware of what I really need to concentrate on. This will help me focus and align my strengths on the needs of everyone, and the organization, and concentrate on other people who have complementary strengths. Realization that my overdone strengths could in fact be detrimental to not only my progress, but also others. In general, overdoing it may hurt my effectiveness just as much as underdoing it. I feel as though my strengths greatly impact on the support I can provide in the year 4 class I work in every Thursday morning in a positive way. This encourages the children and the child I work one to one with (who is awaiting a diagnosis of ADHD) in this class to approach their work positively and be positive themselves. I believe I have developed a professional working relationship with the year 4 class teacher, which in affect has enabled us to have good communication skills.
For instance the strength of being restorative has shown me that I need to work on not trying to control every situation and solve every problem someone has. I need to let them figure out how to solve their problems and just be a sounding board for them when they need it. Being a mom it is hard to not just jump in every time my boys face a difficult situation and just solve it for them. They are young men now and I realize that I need to take a back seat and let them figure out where their life’s road will take them and to be there to listen and help as they ask me. Hard, yes, but a necessity. By doing the assessment and finding out what my top three strengths are I can use them to in the best way possible to achieve the goals I have for my life both personally and professionally. Upon completion of the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five greatest strengths were Achiever, Discipline, Responsibility, Relator, and Competition. However, I was skeptical about the initial results until I read what each strength entails. I found most of the information given to be accurate. According to the description of those strengths, I discovered that I use them daily without realizing it.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned about the theoretical foundation of leadership and management. From various leadership styles to numerous learning tools have all aided in shaping me to become an effective leader not only in the health care profession, but everyday life as well. Through utilizing these tools, I have managed to put them into actions through working individually and in teams which has helped me to learn more about myself and the type of leader I am. Throughout this action plan I will reflect on my definition of leadership, what I’ve learned about myself in the capacity to demonstrate leadership, my leadership strengths and weaknesses and three action steps that will help me to develop my leadership in the future.
Identify and describe a leadership responsibility that you have held. What did you learn from the experience? What made the experience meaningful?
I had no clue how the online assessments that I took would help me, like any other person would think. But later, when I took the tests, I realized the importance of these assessments which gave me an insight of my true self, and helped me pin point my strengths and weaknesses in almost every department. These assessments helped me connect more to myself and the people around me. In this paper, I am going to discuss all the results from the various tests I took online and show how they reflect my leadership style and how I analyze the results to my own leadership potential, with help of examples experienced by me in life.
In the past couple of weeks I found a common theme about my personality and my strengths through Strengthsfinder, MBTI, and the FOCUS 2 assessments. I have come into touch with my strengths of adaptability, competition, empathy, curiosity, communication, and consistency. On all three assessments I have learned that I am an excellent communicator. For example, on the FOCUS 2 assessment I scored a high of twenty five for the strength of being social and had a score of zero for conventional on the bottom of my chart. As for the personality assessment, I learned I was a campaigner. This is somebody who enjoys emotional connections with other people and somebody who thrives off curiosity and energy. After assessing my strengths and weaknesses from the self-assessment survey, I am not surprised by the results. Prior to this survey it has always been clear on my weaknesses and my strengths pursuing a career as a therapist. I am a very sensitive person, particularly when it comes to people being violated. Often when people are emotional around me, especially telling me something that they are going through, I tend to cry with them or get as emotional with them. I don’t know how I will be able to sit and talk with a person if they are telling me about being raped, kidnapped or beaten. I know that I can overcome this because in the past I have been put in situations where people have come to me about matters such as being raped or seeing
During this past week, I completed my leadership traits assessment and tallied the results from my friends and coworkers. This process was interesting because it has been several years since I have completed an activity like this one. My results were as follows, I received my highest ratings in being persistent, determined, trustworthy, dependable, friendly, diligent, and conscientious. On the other hand, my lowest scores are in self-confident, self-assured, and perceptive. These results were not surprising to me because they are developmental opportunities that I have been working to overcome. It was good to see that what my results are consistent with what I already knew.

My greatest strength as a student is my perseverance. No matter the difficulty of an assignment, I choose to give it my all until the end. For example, a challenge I have faced several times as a student is working with uncooperative peers. With such a difficulty, I choose to stay calm and compromise ideas with others to solve the problems.
