“A Friend of God” As a friend of God who desires to make a difference in the world by sharing God’s “message of love”, the opportunity to be an advocate for someone who needs to be encouraged by faith will be an honor. The essence of sharing my personal experience and relationship with Christ would be the ultimate way to initiate the conversation. The best way to confront a “devout atheist”, is to begin by encouraging good communication skills, choosing the right words, use plain language, and impart strong moral emphases. The initiative to recognize the reasoning behind one’s decisions and evaluate the atheistic view of my new friend will help me communicate my perspective and respond in a respectable manner. Hence, interrelating by …show more content…
Proceeding to the question of thought, “What do you believe about God?” My response will base on my personal story which is about how God has changed my life by performing a miracle to save my daughter’s life. Five years ago, my daughter “Sarah”, was diagnosed with an intestinal stomach infection, in which her doctor described severe with only 24-48 hours for the medicine to take effect and reverse a possible chronic disease from developing. Sarah was pale-faced, unresponsive, loss of appetite, she was too decrepit and in pain to walk or even to weep. My hope was all in God’s hands, I held my baby’s weak hands, prayed over her and sing worship songs by her bedside. My emotional state of mind was relying heavily on God’s works. Hours have passed, and yet nearly a 28 hours later the Doctor returns with feedback time is running short and laboratory tests are recommended. Because the medicine didn’t take effect immediately the doctor suggested a test for stomach cancer, scientifically he was aware that we may have had to prepare for the worst. Hours later he returned with the results and he asked me, “Do you believe God performs miracles? I replied, “Yes, I believe God has the power to save a life.” He then said, “Well, your prayers were answered!” My daughters t-shit was drenched in my tears as I cried in her arms with my head laying on her chest. Two weeks after my daughter was released from the hospital her father had passed on. My heart was so
5. What is your basis of ethics? My basics of ethics was taught by my grandma she instilled a lot of her values and morals in my life giving me the teachings that made her a bright woman. She made sure to start on me early by getting me involved in church and helping me understand my religion and god and what he expects from his people. I was told to become a leader and not a follower use gods power that he using in my life to restore and help those who may be broken in life. I always ask god if I’m unsure I understand in this world of many temptations we may fall but our god isn’t a judging god and will be there with open ears and arms to help you get it right if you want change. I am not perfect but I pay attention I know right from wrong and know I am help accountable for my actions and faults. And have god move in my
To begin, I will discuss how Bearing’s cancer and treatment generate pain that then leads to her salvation anxiety. Bearing first experiences physical pain which prompts her to seek a medical opinion. She describes this pain as “like a cramp, but not the same” (27). As it turns out, the pain she felt was ovarian cancer. After her diagnosis, Bearing chooses to undergo an experimental treatment. The medicine used produces nausea, vomiting, fever, and chills (31, 41, 47). After several rounds of chemotherapy, the chemicals kill all of Bearing’s white blood cells leading to her immune system being compromised and further subjection to illness (46-47). With extreme pain as a constant reminder of her death and what follows, it is no surprise Bearing also begins to suffer from salvation anxiety.

I never faced a situation like that before. I really did not know how I could help this man. The staff and the doctor at this point were relying on my help as a chaplain. At that moment for the first time I realized how important my role as a chaplain was.
A woman name Angela Hundley and her family were away on a family vacation in the Dominican Republic. While there Angela ate fish that caused her to become very ill. Two weeks after they returned home from their vacation she was diagnosed with ciguatera poisoning. She could not open her eyes or lift her head. The doctor informed the family that the poisoning was untreatable, and an incurable. Angela felt like she was in a comma, she couldn’t move but she could hear everything. She could hear her children playing but she couldn’t play with them. She remembers her husband taking her to her church for prayer and at the alter she recalls her pastor asking her “Angela have you thanked God through any of this, even if you don’t see another day,
The nurse comes in the room and performed her duties and she left the room. I was so nervous. Within a few moments, after she left, my family gathers in my room. My grandmother said, "Everybody grabs hands and let us pray". "Prayer is an experience that is generally known among human (McMinn, 1996)". During her prayer, she said that if we are going to worry we would not be praying. That statement was stuck in my head. I released everything that I was worrying about and prayed to myself as the nurses wheeled me into the room. After the prayer, I had a different feeling. At that moment was when I felt that God put a shield over me to protect me. "Humbling ourselves and worshipping God during prayer brings what we are dealing with truthfully to God (McMinn,
When an individual comes to faith in Christ he or she is not left alone to battle the struggles of sin, lead people to Jesus, experience heartache and sorrow, find God’s will, or live a life that is pleasing and honoring to the Lord. No, Christians are given an awesome gift that cannot be purchased or earned. Believers are blessed with the gift of a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 14:16, “ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”(ESV) Sadly, many believers do not have a correct understanding of who the Holy Spirit is, or what He does. The purpose of this paper is define the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
Just what is theology? This question can have a wide variety of answers, from irrelevant facts about God thought up by men centuries ago, to complicated theories discussed by scholars. Typically, the average 21st century man does not consider theology as relevant. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Theology by definition has the characteristics of both expounding the truth, and impacting the believer with that truth (Himes, 2011). Therefore, theology and the church are intricately combined, in that the church embodies the revelation of God, and is reality, not theory (Himes, 2011). A personal practical theology must begin with revelation, not the individual (Himes, 2011), and proclaim
When discussing and proving the person of Christ, there are two basic laws that must be addressed and proven. First you must prove that Christ is one hundred percent human (humanity), then you must prove that at the same time Christ is one hundred percent God (deity).

My journey with God started in February of 1993, when I went to a ladies’ conference in Columbus, Texas. It was while the speaker was explaining that she knew there were some of us out in the audience, who felt guilty about something they had done in their past, and they did not feel that God could forgive them for it. But then she quoted from God’s word; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, not principalities, no things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:38-39 NASB) The speaker continued on to say that all we need to do is
The bible was written as an account of what many viewed that God had accomplished so his actions and words could be passed on for generations. Some believe it is a literary account and some believe it is a historical account. The word of God in the bible comes in many forms and is left up to interpretation by the reader. Some believe that the word of God should be the only word and should be strictly followed. Some believe that the words are meant as a guideline to help us through life. Whatever your belief is you can always seem to find the meaning behind your belief through the word of God in the Bible.
Studies of Jesus primarily focus on the duality of Jesus and how he is able to be both human and divine at once. This subject was disputed at the Council of Chalcedon in the year 451 between the
Through out history, as man progressed from a primitive animal to a "human being" capable of thought and reason, mankind has had to throw questions about the meaning of our own existence to ourselves. Out of those trail of thoughts appeared religion, art, and philosophy, the fundamental process of questioning about existence. Who we are, how we came to be, where we are going, what the most ideal state is....... All these questions had to be asked and if not given a definite answer, then at least given some idea as to how to begin to search for, as humans probed deeper and deeper into the riddle that we were all born into.
