Personal Essay : How Did I Get In A Tree

Through the murky depths, pain was the first thing I felt.

Stabbing brands of pain radiated outwards in eternal waves, dragging me awake. I opened my eyes, blinking as I took in my surroundings. The sky was overcast but light, suggesting the time as somewhere in the afternoon.
Rain crashed down from above, creating a constant droning sound as it hit the forest floor in a million different places at once. Leaves flailed not from wind, but from the impact of droplets.

Then I looked at the factory of pain that was my arm, and remembered everythung that happened. Knife. He took my knife. And broke my arm. How did I get in a tree?

Okay. Okay. I've done this before- I can do this again. Taking a deep breath, I gave the fractured end a push inwards, letting out a pained hissing noise the whole time.

When it was knuckle's length in, I took a rest, breathing heavily as the fire came in, unending in it's siege. I lay there for a while as the pain lessened over time. Once it was back to its former level of agony, I continued readjusting the bone.

Resting the arm on my knee, I was avout to give the bone another push, when my hand slipped. I ended up shoving the end in a lot harder than I wanted or needed.

I think I might have screamed, but I wasn't sure. My vision turned blindingly white, then red, before splotches of black took over and dragged me to oblivion once more.

I awoke not that long later, judging by the sky. Or perhaps it was an entire day later, there was no way for am to tell. I looked at my arm again. The bone was inside after that ordeal, but still not set.

Round two, I thought. I took hold of the arm in my other hand, and with an explosion of pain, snapped the bone back into place. I fell backwards again,st the trunk and lay there for a while more, panting and trying to calm my senses. Now for the other bone. This one was much easier, and was nudged into place with no small amount of lightning bolts flying to my head.

Thankfully, I didn't pass out again.

The worst of the pain over, I rewarded myself with a long rest, trying to think of anything
