The major matters in my district are transportation, education, and health issues. This will enable the students to get better employment opportunities in the future as well. Also, public transportation is in a below satisfactory condition. It is one of the reasons that people do not have employment opportunities. They can neither afford a car nor taxi and uber. I want to establish convenient and cheap bus transportation system here. The current chair of Senate Committee on Transportation, Robert Nichols and vice chair Bob Hall have similar views as mine. More funding is needed to improve the transportation system in Texas. Moreover, the funding has to be allocated in appropriate place. Constructing a subway station or train routes is a huge project that I would look forward to. This will not only create transportation facilities but also reduce the emission of smoke in the air which will reduce pollution. Use of public vehicles rather than private will decrease air pollution, traffic jams, and overcrowding. Public transportation has another benefit which is that it reduces the consumption of oil. 3 Another very important aspect is public health. Since medicinal costs are high, individuals frequently do not go for customary checkups and overlook their vital wellbeing. The Texas Senate Health & Human Services is working to make the health care cost transparent. 4 Study efforts by the Department of State Health Services and the
Beginning in America in 1787, the Electoral College was originally created during the Constitutional Convention to help make a fair way for the president to be elected without giving too much power to either the national government or individual states. Over the years, the Electoral College has undergone a few changes in attempt to make it more fair, but there is still much debate about whether or not the Electoral College is the most effective way to elect a president. Some people believe that the Electoral College does an excellent job of creating an equal distribution of votes across all ethnicities and social classes of America. In contrast, others think that the Electoral College does not give an accurate portrayal of the popular
In the following essay I will be talking about the disadvantages and advantages of partisan elections for state politics. I will also examine the last couple year’s election results and costs. Finally, I will discuss if partisanship made a difference in the vote, as well as if a judge should be decided by partisan vote. In the next couple paragraphs I will talk more specifically about these topics.
Voting has not always been as easy as it is today. It is interesting to examine how far America has progressed in its process of allowing different types of people to be able to vote. Voting was once aimed at a particular group of people, which were white males that owned their own property. Today, most people over the age of eighteen can vote, except for the mentally incompetent or people who have been convicted of major felonies in some states. The decline of voter participation has always been a debate in the public arena. According to McDonald and Popkin, it is “the most important, most familiar, most analyzed, and most conjectured trend in recent American political history (2001, 963)” The question is, how important is voter
Texas has a controversial way of electing its judges. When Texas became a state in 1845, judges were appointed by the governor with Senate consent, but since 1876, judges at all levels of courts have been elected by the people in partisan elections. The main problem with this system is partisan elections lead to more campaign contributions and increased partisanship among judge which hinders fair and independent judiciary system.
In this country, we hold elections every four years to select the president. The founding fathers of our country established the electoral college to give the original thirteen states a fair voice in the election process. This country electoral called the electoral college into question on more the one occasion. In the most recent election, President-elect Donald Trump won the electoral vote over Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. This election has sent the country into an uproar and citizens of the United States are now challenging the legitimacy of the electoral college process. This paper will examine whether this process is reliable and valid when choosing the leadership of this country.

Texas is one of seven states that elect judges in partisan elections. Judicial selection begins with partisan elections and notable amounts of money for campaigning in order to win the election or reelection. Partisan elections influence the electorate in a consistent party label voting procedure. With the present day option of split-ticket voting, the electorate can simply vote for their party. Judges are removed only by failure to be reelected by the Supreme Court due to incompetence, official misconduct, negligence, or by impeachment from the House or trial in the Senate with a two-thirds vote.

Moreover, the Senate divides its work into twenty permanent committees. These committees are similar to the house of representative committees in the United States. However, the Senate has its own guidelines within which each committee operates. Furthermore, each senate committee has the mandate to hire its own staff and the operating funds vary from one committee to another (Berry & Fowler 694) Most of the committee staff resources are controlled by the majority party in the Senate; however, a portion of the resources
There have been various controversies revolving around voting in America. Some of these controversial topics have been about who to vote for, and some have been about who should have the privilege to vote. As of right now in America, anyone who is eighteen years or older, a citizen of the United States, and meets the residency requirements of his or her state can vote. America did not always take this path for voting. In some instances, people could not vote due to their race, gender, or age.

The election process in the United States is a valuable process to the election of the proper officials to satisfy the people. The people run the country which is why we live in freedom because we control what happens with major decisions by choosing whom we want to decide these decisions. The whole country goes to vote on a certain day and by the end of that day we will vote to select who will run the country, state, county, or city political positions. The most complex decision and one with the biggest impact are selecting who the President of the United States shall be. We examine what their views are and who would do a better job. Then vote in our respected states with a certain number of electoral votes
The voters pay more attention to the name who represents them making them more supportive of their service. The sum of people coming in on election days relies on who their member is, which makes the re-election much more likely. “In 2010, 84 percent of Senators and 85 percent of House members won re-election.” (Washington Post) Although there is a record of about 95 percent House members who usually won re-election. Most recently, in 2012, “90 percent of house members and 91 percent of senators were successful in re-election.” (Washington Post)
