For example, when the time came for my oldest son to graduate from high school, he was not allowed to march with his graduating class. When this happened I made sure that any other student that graduated after him would not have to endure the hurt and pain that my son did. Especially with the student earning the right to march with their graduating class. Some may say that it was not my place, but I beg the difference. Because a student has every right to graduate when they have completed the state requirements and I felt the need to make sure that another student did not have to undergo the humiliation of not being allowed to

The history of mental health in the United States show a robust movement towards the mental healthcare system we have today. Prior to the 19th century, individuals with mental health issues were widely considered to be demonically possessed, thus contributing to the stigmatization of mental illness and the proliferation of poor treatment conditions. However, in the 1800s, there was a dramatic change in mental healthcare in the U.S. The government took a proactive role in treating the mentally ill, leading to the dawn of state psychiatric facilities.
I want to pursue professional social work education because I love to help individuals overcome barriers they face in life and help them understand and reach their full potential. Many individuals need someone to encourage them and give them a push to help them pursue and achieve their goals. This is why I want to be a social worker. As a woman diagnosed with social anxiety,I was entrusted to be under the care of a social worker so as to help me manage my disorder. Personally, I have gone through so many experiences which collectively made me develop a deeper insight into the roles of social workers as compared to other health caregivers. Besides that, I have seen a lot of transformative supports to people who have various social problems provided through the selfless care of the social workers. My passion for Human Services began while traveling in Asia, Mexico, and through different communities in our country. The most important lesson I learned whether overseas or here in the USA is compassion. Compassion and understanding for what is needed. The one thing that has stayed constant with me since I started traveling with my family is that people need help.

What do I want to be? It has always been an interest of mine in wanting to help people. I can remember when I was in high school and I was always the person my friends would come to for help.
Going into Social work I had a brief idea of what was entailed to be an excellent social worker. After having known people to have awful experiences, myself included, and those who had great experiences, I came into Social Work with High hopes that I will be the best I can be. However, after two social worker practicums, jobs in the field, and graduating with a social worker diploma, I have discovered that a competent and professional social is much more complex, and challenging (I want a more positive word here) to achieve then I originally thought. What I am learning, is that being a professional and competent social worker requires not only the skills and techniques that are learned through education, but the ability to use theses skill
Starting from being a certified nursing assistant, to becoming a unit secretary for a hospital that specialize in wound care, I have always known that I wanted to help individuals in need. However, I noticed that I was not happy with helping individuals in medical need. It wasn’t until I decided to continue my education that I introduced to the world of social work. Going up with a single mother that suffered from drug abuse, my family depended on social services for a lot of assistance, from everything such as food stamps to family counseling. This life experience helped guide my thoughts on pursuing social work as a career. I know that I want to help individuals that are down on their luck, but I want to take it one step farther, by providing individual counseling to adults that may need more one on one time, than what is normally given from a social service agency. Counseling will also give me a chance to do what I love most and that is to talk and get to know the individuals that I am helping make like changing decisions. Working as a clinical social work has my interest because it does not put limits on what I can do or who I can help, and it will set me up for my future goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. Being my own boss and changing my community is my dream job, opportunity and goal. I am currently on my way with changing my community and living my dream, because I am currently working for a non-profit
