Ever since I was little, I remembered going into the main office to read stories to the secretaries. I loved reading and writing stories for others to enjoy. As I kept writing for school and eventually in the teen section of the local newspaper I realized the duty of a writer- to inform and influence. With this responsibility comes decisiveness and the determination to write in truth. The significance of our diction emulates our character and the society we want to live in. The talent to write can be used to portray your strength in speaking one’s ideas into life. One of the many challenges in any career is communication. Failure to learn how to communicate with others and find a solution, you can become unorganized hence leading to deficiency. Upon finding a passion in writing for the Voices, the teen newspaper in The Reading Eagle, I found a voice within myself to share the opinions of people I interview. With an extensive vocabulary, a writer can be more precise and exact with their style and the overall tone of their piece- whether it is an essay for college or an article for a local newspaper. With a journalistic style, one tends to use simple everyday language that everyone understands to grab the audience’s attention, and introducing an article with critical information in place of forming a thesis. Recognizing the difference between styles and knowing how to form your ideas and thoughts into a piece of writing was certainly easier said than done. Writing for Voices introduced me to a different approach in my writing, and I found this new style exciting. But, I also realized I needed to maintain a formal writing style for my classes in school, such as Literature and Composition and Anatomy. This balance in learning different styles and practicing them in different situations prepares me for my plan to pursue higher
