It was a summer night, 2004. Maria and her sister Kaylene were seen on the side of a road.
“Maria get out now! You are ungrateful, you do not deserve any good in your life. Take kaylene and get out.” Their step father exclaimed to Maria while tears were rolling down her cheeks. The words kept playing over and over in Marias head. Peter had no love for kaylene and Maria. Maria thought that their mom would leave with them but she knew her mom could not. Peter always wanted to be in control. He wanted to be the ‘general’ in the house and at his work environment.
Peter lived by the words “blood is thicker than water”. Maria clearly understood why she and kaylene got kicked out of the house. Maria’s mom JoJo was abused because of Maria and kaylene. When Maria mom said “I do” Maria and kaylene had not seen this coming.

She had an understanding of what her nieces went through with Peter. Their aunt would have welcomed them with love and security. “Blood is thicker than water” Kaylene and Maria went through a night without food and shelter, Maria prayed that night that kaylene and she would get up the next morning safely. Their mom was not aware of it. As much as kaylene and Maria were hopeless so was their mom.
As the years passed by Kaylene grew up and questioned Maria where their mom was. Kaylene found out and remembered that she and Maria did not have a dad because he passed away when he was fighting in a war. All she could remember was a tall skinny abusive man that she and Maria were surrounded by. As kaylene was growing up into a teenager she wanted to be strong and independent for herself. Maria became the sister she always pictured her to be. Maria found a job to support herself and kaylene, she enrolled kaylene into a school, she put money aside into a savings account which made it possible for her to study. Maria always wanted to be a nurse and work in the children’s

Ma protected the family and made important judgments that the family could count on when they needed to. “She seemed to know that if she swayed the family shook, and if she ever really deeply wavered or despaired the family would fall, the family will to function would be gone” (p.100). Ma held up the family and kept Pa, the head of the house, and the rest of the family strong at all times. Without Ma’s power of integrity, the family would crumble, and no longer work with the strength it usually does.

There had been enough time for something to change but almost everything was the exact same. Again Rye found herself travelling on a bus to go search for something, now knowing her brother is in fact dead she wasn 't exactly sure if what she was searching for was real. The only difference was that she now had the weight of two pre-teens. She felt it best for them to be as cautious as she had been while travelling around a decade ago. Each child had their own piece to communicate what their name was without using their words, it’s safer. Sitting on these benches Rye looked at them, the girl was the spitting image of her dead mother long curly dirty blond hair, a button nose, freckles, green eyes, and the perfect height for her age. Her was brother only slightly taller, with a darker skinned tone, and features almost exactly the opposite of his sister. The only feature similar was their hair texture. Rye would never admit this to anyone but there were times like the present that she regrets the events leading up to this very moment. The deja vu of running away except this time with hope.
Whether, it was the remark of Ro’s father to her or her mother, or even the exchange of words from her mother to her, all had a great impact and affected one another. The harsh words of Ro’s father shaped her into the women she ended up becoming. A woman who could not hold back despite what was said to her. The vulgarity that Ro’s father used to describe her and her mother while he was having one of his many fits actually made the women better people. Ro’s mother a strong women herself, didn’t let such harsh words break her or Ro. Ro was able to use her father’s mistakes in order to learn what she didn’t like in a man, and by doing so, she married someone completely different and loving. Ro was doing the right think when she would yell back at her father for mistreating her or mother. Incidents like that gave Ro a backbone and helped her not to let others abuse her like he did. Being put in the situation Ro was put in with her father had some negative effects on her, but she had so much positive growth that essentially helped
“Connor, mom and I are going to make breakfast without dairy for you in about 15 minutes. We’ll need to leave our house at noon since we need to be there by 1:00 P.M.,” my dad claimed. After knowing this, I got a glass of refreshing ice water, went into my family room, and I took my usual spot on our couch to watch some television. I knew I was nervous, but I didn’t want that to conquer my success. Once I was settled in, my siblings came stampeding into the family room.
The oppression her husband, John, has on her causes her to suffer from a mental illness. His oppression towards her is he tries to keep her in the house. She states, “I wish he would let me go and make a visit to Cousin Henry and Julia. But he said I wasn’t able to go, nor
As young girls the sisters had been very unhappy when their younger sister, Felicitas my godmother, was born. Seven years younger than the youngest sister they were not happy with the attention the new baby was getting and even at that young age decided to retaliate. Baby Felicitas was lying in a pram when the sisters pushed it into flock of geese that were noted for being dangerous. As luck would have it her mother would rescue her before anything could happen. The sisters, however, would see the rescue act as once more privilege being bestowed on the baby of the family. As the sisters grew older they would remain always distance, only including Felicitas when it suited their need. Felicitas adored her sisters despite the many pranks they pulled on her. She liked them even when they look down upon
Maggie unlike her sister Dee never went to school beyond school grade. Maggie was self conscious because she had scars from a house fire. She was always jealous of her sister Dee’s easier life. She was angry when Dee asked for the quilts, because her mother had already promised to give the quilts. Maggie knew how making another quilt in case the quilt was destroyed. Afterwards, she tried to make peace so that her sister would have the quilts, but the mother snatched it out of Dees hands and gave the quilts Maggie, because she knew Maggie was more deserving and understood the value of the quilts to her mother.
I am working with the design group. Our goal as a team was to find ways to get many people to donate blood by advertising such as posters, flyers, and social media. I have also done research for my group. Two weeks before the blood drive all of the groups will pass out flyers and poster. Working with the design groups reflects back on my strengths because I use all five of my strengths such as communicating with one another. How we can get people to come by the blood drive? I had a great desire to learn about one another that was in the design group. The One Blood Drive has been great. Our team was very organized. Working with one another was very challenging because everyone had different logos they want to use. So that was very challenging.
She was not upset the day her brother died, and felt no guilt for her feelings about him. "I was sad for them [her family] rather than over any loss of mine, because my brother had become a stranger to me. I was not sorry that he had died, but I was sorry for him because, according to his standards, his life had been thoroughly worth living" (p. 55-56).
The dry snow piled up onto the bodies; the bitter, biting wind picked away at their bruised and bloodied lifeless forms. The ice was dragging away the last remaining traces of warmth from their livers. More than the blood loss alone could achieve. I can’t help but think of how it is such a classic means of preservation. This gives me time to outlast the storm; after all, I still have plenty of furniture to feed the stove.
