The alarm clock jolted the life out of her sleep. Yesterday she changed the alarm ring before setting her cellphone next to her sofabed. Cheriz never could stomach the standard alarm clock. She felt this associated too much with a settled home life; which did not mirror her reality, so her phone was an adequate substitution. Her former ring sounded like a wave of a sweet intermittent melody that so easily meshed with fading dream remnants in the wee morning hours; yet did nothing to return her to the husyle and bustle of daily life. Especially now with the looming shadow of heartbreak taking over her resting hours; she tended to drift into slumber abyss only minutes before it was time to arise. Now, the 1920"s style rotary ring programmed on
When most people hear my full name , “Joann Botani," they automatically assume I'm Italian, but truth is I am actually Middle Eastern. From what I know my dad does have a little Italian in his blood but the name “Botani” actually comes from a city in Turkey. I come from an upper-middle class house hold and I have two younger siblings, a brother and a sister. Being the oldest has its challenges because there is so much expected from me whether it is school, work or social life. I tend to think my younger siblings have it easier because I am the one who pushes the boundaries with my parents and because of that my siblings usually get to do what ever the want because it is not as extreme as what I do. It has always been easy for my younger sister because she is the “princess” of the house but I am my dad’s favorite while my brother is a momma’s boy. My family is very competitive when it comes to school and grades, my little brother and I were always duking it out
In the autobiography we are told an account by Rosa Cassettari an Italian immigrant coming to the United States. Rosa is from northern Italy and is coming to America to join her husband Santino who works in Missouri as an iron miner. She reluctantly leaves behind her young son, but is curious about American life. Her journey to America, her move to Chicago, and her job at the settlement all revealed changes that occurred in Rosa. Her story was successful, not based on the amount of money she made, but in being able to establish a good life for herself in America where she had her freedom.
Growing up in chicago during the 50s and 60s, mallen streaked Catherine Salemi was surrounded by her tight knit Silesian heritage and her family's unyielding values and tradition. She had inherited a rare hair disorder in which a mallen streak is formed. In other words, she had a unique streak of non pigmented white hair, which was in great contrast to her otherwise jet black hair color. Her skin was smooth with an olive tone and had luscious, thick charcoal hair with curiously defined round brown eyes. Furthermore, she also spent the majority of her childhood in Chicago IL, however she spent roughly a year living in California on the account of her father's job. During her time in California, she developed a great interest in dancing, specifically
I tried to fling open the door, but the chain lock inside jerked it to a halt. Persistent bleats—starting and stopping at regular intervals—pierced the air inside her apartment. Margery’s alarm clock, still blaring its morning wake-up
Waking up in the morning is a difficult task for some people, whereas for others waking up may seem like a natural routine. Well for those people who have a hard time waking up or just wanting to get up at a specific time there was a device invented called the alarm clock. This device was originally invented by ancient Greek philosophers around 250 B.C. and over the years mechanical alarm clocks were invented by Levi Hutchins in 1787 (History of Clocks. (n.d.). Retrieved November 6, 2014.), then came radio alarm clocks invented by James Reynolds (The History of Alarm Clocks {INFOGRAPHIC}. (n.d.). Retrieved November 6, 2014.), and finally the modern alarm clocks with IPhone or IPod docking bays. My objective is to write a proposal for option one on the final project, in which I will take a Sony Dream Machine model ICF-CS15iP alarm clock and discuss my experience using and interacting with the device. Also I will examine how other people interact and review their experience in using the Dream Machine.
One cold and crisp Tuesday morning, Tommy wakes up at 6 o’clock to the sound of his alarm blaring. Papers scattered throughout his room, his laptop on his bedside table and his textbooks thrown all over the soft carpeting, Tommy’s room looks like an utter mess. He sits up, smacks the alarm clock to stop its harsh noise, and sighs loudly before hopping in the shower. After getting four hours of sleep, he would rather just go back to bed before going to school for the next eight hours.
His phone pinged on the bedside table, indicating that he had a text, but he ignored it and flopped onto his immaculate white bed. The sounds of his parents arguing still traveled upstairs and the ringing of the slamming door haunted his ears. However, bad as the distraction was, there was nothing in the world that could have stopped him from falling asleep as soon as he hit the
Santiago de los Caballeros, that’s where my family is from in the Dominican Republic. Everything about it warms my heart just as much as its vicious sun does penetrating your pores until you’re almost sure they aren’t there anymore. My father’s side of the family had just come down from the Capitol, which is known to be ignorant and high maintenance despite being from a third world country. The Dominican air smelled earthy and damp, yet you could feel its purity in the pit of your lungs. We decided to sit down at a food truck area and eat the signature post-club, pre-hangover, Dominican sandwich: The Chimmichurri. It is nowhere near as disgusting as it sounds, I promise. As we made ourselves comfortable in our plastic chairs beside The Monument, we had a complete view of the lights scattered like a den of fireflies illuminating the city. I was lost within the laughter you find yourself in after one too many Red Rock sodas when our Haitian server approached us. He kept reading the menu off to us and I fell in love
As a third and fourth grader, I participated in choir. I enjoyed it then but decided to stop so that I would have more time for homework. In the beginning of seventh grade, when it came time to decide if you want to join choir, Maria Abbulone and I chose to sign up. We thought it would be a fun experience because we enjoy singing, and we had done it in past years. As choir practices began, Maria and I thought that it would be a fun experience for the year, and we might decide to do it in eighth grade. As the choir kicked into full swing, everything was going well.
BRRRRNNNGGGG! BRRRRRNNNGGG! The familiar, but annoying sound come blaring from the out of date alarm clock, sitting on the dresser, in Katie’s small bedroom. Katie knew all too well that the antiquated clock, which had been her mothers and her grandmothers before that, would continue to scream at her until she put an end to it. The treasured alarm clock had been given to her on her tenth birthday, twelve years ago to the day, but the memory was as fresh in Katie’s mind as if it had happened only yesterday.
After listening to Mr. Cioccetti today, I came away with a new perspective on not only ethics but life as well. Mr. Cioccetti, started the day with a story which really focused around his time right out of college. My big takeaway from this story was to enjoy what you are doing in your job as opposed to just following the money. Right out of college, he received an offer of $120,000 to work at a law firm and like many other students would do, he took it. However, he described that he and everyone else would quite the law firm the very next day due to long hours away from his family. For example, he said he did not go home for an entire week and just stayed at the office. It was just not him that did that, it was close to the entire firm. When he told a partner that he quite, he said nobody quiets due to two reasons. The first was that they were too prideful and the second was that they spent too much money so they needed the job to sustain their spending habits. This screamed to me that it is critical to live within my own means when I first start out. He said that this will allow flexibility, so that we can avoid being stuck in a job like the one he had at the law firm.
With a sudden burst, my phone’s alarm sprung to life, screaming the default ringtone into my ears. It was already 7:00 PM and I had only an hour before the opening of the night’s opera concert. The opera was titled, La Boheme, with music composed
The game places you in the shoes of Lucio and Ameli, two youngsters from the town of Carnia who are going to have their Jewish right of passage. Amid their stately journey, they run over a withering orc with some enchantment gauntlets, and everything just spirals wild from here.
I have never been the fittest or a fan of sport, but I have always loved walking and witnessing the entrancing views. It makes me feel free, like i don’t have a care in the world. I must admit I do not do it enough because, let's be honest, I’m lazy. The only mountains I have walked up are, Cairngorm and Craigellachie. I knew this was going to be quite a challenge, but it was do-able. That was all I needed.
“Nooo,” I groaned, rolling over beneath my comforter, attempting to shield myself from the alarm clock blaring beside my ear. It sounded more like an infant wailing than the normal ringing of a bell or a song. It was one of those retro, standing alarms I picked up at a thrift store. It made me think realize that I desperately needed to replace the clock and upgrade it to something from this century. Vintage is all well and good until you realize why nobody uses the junk anymore; it sucks.
