I was a young child sitting in abandoned house waiting for the black blizzard to pass.I went to get wet towel to put over my face. Suddenly,I hear the storm roaring as it gets closer, and closer, I brace for impact of the high speed dust coming towards me.Then the was so strong it felt like time stopped but the dust was still hurtling towards.I fell down and cover my face because as my face hurt from the dust hitting it rapidly then I looked up.The dust was piercing right through the boards of the house it was going around fifty through sixty miles per hour.So for about an hour I was hiding behind old furniture with a towel on my face. The storm finally passed and when I got up it like the house had hundreds of bullet holes. So now I hurry west to California because I do not what so ever want to be in the next storm. In a few weeks later, I am just trailing along and almost in a different state and along the way I found an officer asking people if they want work in the middle of an old town full of life.He turns his towards me saying, “Hey kid you want some work tending crops.” “For sure officer anything to get out of Oklahoma
California has always held a special place in my heart for many different reasons. I was born and raised in this state and although there has been many drawbacks to being Californian, it has always been a place of comfort for me. California has played a huge role when it comes to the person I am today and why I have such an open mind, love for different cultures, and my willingness to work hard for the so called “California Dream.”
On 08/04/16 at 8:42pm, I was dispatched to 2087 S. Hamilton Rd, on a injury dangerous or vicious dog/injured dog, serious injury, involving a Columbus Police Officer (CPD) being bit by a dog and shooting dog. I arrived at the location. I was advised my CPD personnel that the CPD Officer that was bite was transported to the hospital and that the dog was still breathing. I was escorted to the area where the dog was. The dog was on the ground, next to the dog was dog owner Jackie Fate. I was unable to see any visible injuries to the dog, the dog had shallow breathing. I asked Ms. Fate to wrap the leash around the dog’s mouth to prevent the dog from biting her or me while I placed the dog on the stretcher. Ms. Fate complied, I slowly guided the dog on the
Now as a person if someone looked outside they would see a dim gloomy sky, and the tides were clashing into the seashore. I was scared of how atrocious the weather was, but after a little while longer all of us got to the weather shelter. While in the shelter the power went off, and to make matters more appalling everybody could hear the thunder reverberating and booming outside. The thunder made me skittish, and the wind was howling as loud as a wolf. Moments later when the hurricane stopped, and it was okay to go outside everybody could see the deterioration done to the
When I first started thinking about college schools I never thought about going to MSU or Ole Miss. I wanted to go to the bigger universities, but I knew I wouldn’t do well if I went there my first year. My high school did not prepare me enough for University, and I hadn’t decided on a major either. I choose East Central Community College (ECCC) as the school I would go to for many reasons, and when I got here I knew I made the right choice.
I don’t remember much, I just remember not wanting to leave. The place I would be spending the rest of my life I had only visited a few times. I, only being two at the time, was absolutely terrified of moving. Moving. It seemed like the worst possible thing that could’ve happened then. At first, when we left, it felt the same as the last time I had gone there. Then the realization that I would be gone forever kicked in, and the fact that this time, my dad wasn’t coming with us. Just my mom and I.
It was mid-winter of 1848, I was doing my daily chores when my neighbor brought news that two days earlier, on January 24, James W. Marshall made a discovery of gold on his piece of land in California. At first, I didn’t think that this would affect me in any way, but then I realized I could start a new life in California filled with gold and fortune, away from my small farm in Missouri. I decided to pack up my things and start on my long journey to California, I packed enough food, water, and supplies to last me a few months. The next morning I was surprised to see that not many others from my town were seeking gold, I knew it was unsafe for me to travel alone, but I was sure I’d meet others along the way.
I did not meet with Pt. , I was paged by Lisa Micciulla, front desk in the emergency room to please come to the ED concerning an "urgent" situation regarding this Pt. When I arrived in the ED registration area an MGH Security personnel stopped me to talk with Pt's daughter, Charlene McDonald. Pt's daughter explained she was not being allowed to see her father, who she understands was brought to MGH for surgery after a fall. Explained to Ms. McDonald, I was aware of Pt having a gaurdian, and that there was a court ordered visitation schedule between Ms. McDonald and Pt. She reported this was an extreme situation and she showed me text messages she had sent to Pt's guardian, Attorney Tine Hajjar. I advised I could not allow Ms. McDonald access to Pt. Based on the order from probate court. Ms. McDonald has visits with Pt on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday 11:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m.
Oakland, California, the city that people consider as one of the top five most dangerous cities in the United States. Growing up in the city next to it and having family there, I developed strong bonds to Oakland. I have always seen Oakland in the light for being outrageously diverse and being resilient. My first thoughts of Oakland never consisted of them of the city being dangerous or a bad place to live in. I knew that Oakland is dangerous but I have never experienced anything that made my outlook change. Despite a handful of my family living there and have experienced muggings, robbery and dealing of drugs, I still could not take in how unsafe Oakland is. However, just one incident changed my view of this city, 18 years of my life Oakland
I'm an established freelance writer based in San Diego covering environmental issues in the Southland and beyond. Although it's hard for me to
First during the day the dust storm was coming you could see the 7,000 feet high storm coming in our direction. While the storm was coming everyone was panicking on what to do some people were getting prepared on what to do. When the storm hit it was a disaster and i could hardly see anything. Some people were still outside and i was wondering what was going on and could hear or see anything because of the storm it was a whole disaster for our city.
Growing up, I did not realize that getting a job was going to be so difficult. It may be different in other towns. I grew up in California and was excited to be older and be productive. California gave you that worthwhile rush that encouraged you to get up and go on an adventure. Then my family and I moved to a college town in a different state, 7 years ago, where it’s less noisy. It was certainly a different environment and personally, I love it.
Although I was born in Salem, Oregon, my earliest memories are from San Francisco, California. My parents came to California to start over and find a better life. For a while we lived on a bus parked in front of a friend's house. When I was three years old, we moved to Potrero Hill, an area of low-income housing projects in the big city. A very famous man, O.J. Simpson, grew up there, but that was before my time. Potrero Hill was a bad neighborhood, so bad that you could not get a pizza delivered there and forget about calling the cops because they would not come. I remember the first and last time I saw a cop drive through our
What makes California a special state? When someone says California, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? California has many people from a wide variety of ethic, racial, religious backgrounds, and I am one of people who live in California. My journey to California began when I was seventeen. Back to my life in Turkey, when I graduated from high school, the only thing I wanted to do is to learn English. Thus, I decided to leave Turkey for a different way of life, and I came to California, because I thought California was the best state in order to live my life and achieve my goal. It is known as a sunshine state. However, “the reality is that the sun does not always shine, and when it does, it is often blocked by smog”. Why I felt
“Hurry we will be late picking up all the dresses,in the suitcase!” called my mother from the bottom of the downstairs. “Today we all going to the car.” If I had only understood what going on today that exciting day.
When my family and I went to Cali we had a lot of fun with our family. We were there for 2 weeks and a half weeks. We witnessed many different environments like the ones that nobody talks about that changed the way I look at things I have and do. Especially, the ones my parents give and I never thank them and so while we were there I wanted to take a day to give back to the people that did not have as much as I did. So we gave out toys to kids the day before christmas, and food so they could enjoy a meal with their families. And almost all the people we helped were so thankful and it really touched me.
