AM the last of my type existing today in all the Solar System. I, too, am the last existing who, in memory, sees the struggle for this System, and in memory I am still close to the Center of Rulers, for mine was the ruling type then. But I will pass soon, and with me will pass the last of my kind, a poor inefficient type, but yet the creators of those who are now, and will be, long after I pass forever. So I am setting down my record on the
We are only a brief second in the long history of the universe; many things have preceded us to make us the most complex creatures that ever walked the Earth. We are a “new level of complexity” which makes us different from all other creatures that have come before us. Our species has only been around for 250,000 years, a short time compared to the formation of the Earth at 4.5 billion years ago and the creation of the Universe at 13.7 billion years ago, but the time we have had on this Earth has greatly affected the outcome of history. In an attempt to provide an overview of human history in his book This Fleeting World, David Christian introduces it in the context of the history of the universe and then systematically breaks it down
During the time of the ancient Greeks we read about their remarkable achievements; whether it be social, political, or cultural, we would not understand their accomplishments if it weren’t for their precise interpretation of text and the development of a lasting language. When looking at our lives today, the lack of credit which goes to our ancient descendants is beyond decent; for the lives in which they established for themselves, only furthered our capability and our potential of exceeding what was never imagined. A civilization where individuals look to the text, the mathematical equations, and the records from that of the ancient Greeks and learn from it. Between their development of the written word, the idea of the recorded time, as
An individual’s legacy, in many ways, is predetermined by the primordial “Fate.” A sort of judge and guide that some people have subscribed to for centuries. This guide develops a certain permutation for an individual’s life which is only influenced by one’s ability to compose judgements and decisions about obstacles which appear everyday. This decision making process is cyclical in that it always leads to another question to answer or problem to solve. One decision may edge the next until it yields to fate, the ultimate philosophical judge. Fate is a permanent path and one is stuck on its course. The same could be said for the Wes Moores’ of the work The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates. Throughout the work, the Wes Moores’ made complicated
Much of the human race strives to escape the sands of time as future generations will forge their own paths and forget the great work of their relentless ancestors. No one wants to be forgotten, and if they are, rarely ever are their works uncovered. However, when it happens, it seems as though the whole world stops for a moment and appreciates what they have completed— their work inspires the work of future generations. As it turns out, maybe they were not forgotten after all.
I gently put aside my duvet, get out of my bed and stare at the world outside through my room’s window. Yet again there is absolutely no movement in the streets of downtown Brisbane outside and I start embracing the calmness into my body and start to breath steadily again after waking up from that nightmare. The old man says that I’m a ghost of an ancient man living in a modern human world. I do have to agree with him as I often see people rushing behind their everyday lives as a slave trapped in a time capsule. I always seem to be gifted with the luxury of having loads of time in my hand. The old man thinks that one day I will become the heir to his empire. He admires me for being calculative and ruthless in the job. But I’m not in it for the money and power as him, I’m in it for the challenges and the thrill it gives me when I’m doing it. The part of me with normal human desires was sucked out of me a long time ago old man… long time ago…But it still feels like
Death is inevitable and we can only hope to depart from the Earth knowing that we have made a positive difference in someone else’s life. However, in order to help another person, we need to understand them, identify with them, and see things through their eyes. But in order to accomplish this mission, we first need to take a step back and understand ourselves by finding our own identities. History, as the oldest story in the world, is one that began at the rise of humanity. It is an unfinished tale that holds the key to unlocking our identities. If you take the time to listen closely, you’ll hear whispers of the story of how we rose from existing as simple cavemen to evolving into complex beings. We are the engineers of dazzling empires and glorious civilizations that have persisted for centuries. We are the past, present, and after our deaths, our immortal legacies will continue to thrive on into the future. I came from a world of adventures and a world of books. I believe that if we set our minds to it, we can accomplish our dreams no matter how far away they might seem. Just as many people before me, I hope to make a meaningful difference in the world and contribute to the legacy to be left behind. Although I am not exactly sure how, history is a great place to start. We may not all live in the same chapter, but we are all a part of the same book. It is a small world after
Each and everyday a historian, a legend, someone who will impact all of humanity is born. They may all go through a lot to reach their destiny or even to be heard, but there are many footsteps that have been left to follow. Whether they’d be an engineer, an architect, a ruler, speaker or anyone with the determination to speak their mind, they will never be lost as long as history is alive.
I say unto you: you still have chaos in yourselves. Alas, the time is coming when man will no longer give birth to a star…Behold, I show you the last man”
Our lives are divided periodically into three segments of time: the past, present, and the future. These segments are ordered in this particular way because the events from the past lead humanity towards an unpredictable future. The first segment is proclaimed to be a subject of history. History by definition has occurred in the past, comprising individuals or an entire society. To obtain a better understanding of the relationship between these three interconnected periods, it is important to recognize that history is derived from the past. However, in our daily lives we learn new perspectives from our successors who are creating history. That being said, the people who have been known to have influence in history have significance or relevance
It is unfair to study an entire chronicle of past events spanning nearly four million years in a fast-paced three years of high school, nor is it to deprive pedantic judgment from and compose bombastic essays by my limited experience. But it is worthwhile. It is worthwhile to spend my year of secondary four to ruminate in ivory tower of scholarship, from where I depart to hold sway in clubs to engage schoolmates and friends to inspire and establish thoughts, apart from formal, intense inquiry into my core and elective subjects.
From long time ago up to know, the whole world has changed from the an entity
this makes the other scoff “You know just as well as anyone that this ‘poring through antiquated records’ is important, Megatronus. for if no one is there to learn what happened in the past, who is to say that it will not just repeat itself?” he says, continuing his work, largely trying (and failing) to ignore his friend, a small smile just hinting on his face as he thought
Everyone will eventually be forgotten. No one lasts eternally in a mortal body. When I realized this, one of my greatest fears turned into a cruel fact. Throughout my entire youth, I wanted to be remembered; I dreamed being forever inserted in history books and anthologies, but the memory of a human life only endures for as long as one’s story is worth telling.
There have always been times of special significance in human history. Kingdoms rise and fall, rulers come and go, wars rage, and nature is capricious in devastating storms and eruptions of earth and sea. Historically, the common man is scarcely aware of the great sweep of time beyond the daily routine of his life, and the inevitability that he will someday join the ranks of his ancestors who have passed on before him.
Imagine, if you will, a society in which time has no clout, dominion, or sway. As you peer from the edge of today and into the bleak personifications of history - that is the unwelcoming Ancient Roman Empire – a delicate gleam weaves its way through the obscurity: be it days of harmony and concord. Here, the ever-so governing ‘tick-tock’ is but a relic of history, blissfully otiose to the human consciousness. Days of halcyon supervene, engulfing the timeless world in a wildfire of symbolic invincibility. “Welcome”, says the Roman nation, “to our Utopia.”
