Great post Annie. My community is stereotyped as a community where people are not prepared or educated. It is really hard to work in a school where 99% are adult Hispanic people because some of them are immigrants that came to this country just to work and send money to their families in their home countries. They are not interested on set up goals on education. They just want to learn English and get a better job. I feel blessed because in the school I work more people are motivated every year to get higher education. Many students are motivated when they see their peers' achievements. My school as well as yours provide students many services one of them is free childcare. It is the principal need of parents in my community, so with this program
Threads to Which I belong is a book that captivated my soul. As I read through the pages of history, I found myself traveling back in time. Invisible I stood in Mississippi watching a family’s history unfold. As I turned the pages, my emotions changed constantly. I experienced emotions of anger, disgust, sorrow, and happiness. The author has written an outstanding piece of work that forces you to consider researching your own family history.
Growing up with a father in the military, you move around a lot more than you would like to. I was born just east of St. Louis in a city called Shiloh in Illinois. When I was two years old my dad got the assignment to move to Hawaii. We spent seven great years in Hawaii, we had one of the greatest churches I have ever been to name New Hope. New Hope was a lot like Olivet's atmosphere, the people were always friendly and there always something to keep someone busy. I used to dance at church, I did hip-hop and interpretive dance, but you could never tell that from the way I look now.
The need for this program is crucial, Patricia Gandara explains in her article, Special Topic/The Latino Education Crisis, that the Hispanic population is the fastest growing minority in the United States and educational youth population but are the most poorly educated of all the main racial groups in the United States. (Gandara, 2010). She also explains in her article that the US Census Bureau estimates that by the year 2021 one in four students in the United States will be of Hispanic descent. (Gandara, 2010). An article from the Pew Research Center written by Mark Lopez, explains
Yeah, I directed an episode of Haven in its last season. And that was something I had always been working toward even before I worked on Haven. I've shadowed directors as much as I could and as long as I could in the hopes of one day getting to direct myself. And that actually came to pass, and the experience was beyond my wildest dreams. It was just incredible. I loved it. I was terrified and just completely overwhelmed the whole time with a combination of sheer terror and pure joy. It was amazing.
It started as typical Tuesday with a couple of court hearings, maybe an arrest, but nothing to exciting. That all changed at dawn.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Deerfield had asked us to restrict all research reports and grant access only to invested clients. When you have a moment, can you please let us know if you are invested, and can we name you to the manager? Thank you in advance for your help.
Johnna Brown. The lovely mother of two, and the amazing wife any man would dream of, the best pet spoiler there is, and the perfect friend. That right there can say so much about someone without even knowing who they are. Johnna, my mother, is such a talented person. Along with this, she is also a mentor and therapist. Last, she devotes her every waking seconds to the ones she loves.
After the the first shot I took my mind went blank. The adrenaline that flowed throughout my body, the feelings of rush, excitement, and success all in one combination of emotions. These were the feelings I had no idea excited until after that moment. Although I had a slight ache in my shoulder due to the force of the 12 gauge shotgun pushing against my shoulder. I was at a lost of words my only reactions was to run, run as fast as I could to get to the dying turkey. Once there the turkey was not fully dead yet It was still flopping around and blood camp oozing out splattering me. Looking at the suffering bird I places my boot on it head to the ground, then grabbed the turkey's body pulling it so its
According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress “test results, showed that 68% of low-income 4th grade students could not read at the proficiency level”. Head Start of Orange County was created to provide low income families with the best quality programs. 4,000 children are now being help because of this program. Preschool enrollment can be very beneficial in closing the achievement gap because students will be more successful if they are able to attend high quality programs. If the government keeps on working on early child hood education and can provide the necessary funds for these low income families this can be the result of finally closing the achievement gap between Latino students and their white
Week one has passed by quickly! I think this week was very successful and I can say that I have learned many new things. This week has been an experience for me learning things about the business world. I am not a business major so I was not expecting to take these classes. I was assigned them, but have found them very beneficial. As I read through the first couple of chapters I read things I had heard before. This was a good thing that I could put the information with the terms I had heard previously.
August 15th was so memorable for me because it was the day I gave my daughter up for adoption. It was one long and hard process for me to go through, but I knew it was for the best. I needed someone who could give my child the stability and maturity that I knew I couldn't provide at the time. It took me a few weeks, but out of the 5 couples I interviewed, I finally decided to go with a couple named Glen and Lisa to be the proud parents of my baby girl. They had been trying to concieve for the last 8 and a half years, but none of the available treatments seemed to work for them. I chose Glen and Lisa because they had this upbeat energy about them. They were always smiling and being positive, even when the worse situations occured. They were also very well respected throughout their community, and didn't hesitate to help out at shelters, donate anything and everything they could get their hands on, and even volunteer at the community center after school to help kids with their studies. They are inspirational people if
There I was on the block next to the High Bar. It was about 5:00 at night when my coach told me to do a Kip. As I got up on the bar my nose filled with the smell of chalk. I started to swing, and as I came out of my half turn I looked good. Everything seemed fine but as I came to the part of the Kip where I have to pull my legs up to the bar, I slammed my shins into the bar. My momentum was stopped and I dropped on to the mat, missing the Kip. I felt like I had let down my coach and I had let down myself too. That day I experienced failure. That failure made me want my Kip even more so I worked harder and had support from my teammates.
“Now I gotta pee,” I mutter in disgust. Slipping from my sleeping bag I am about to unzip the tent when I hear the sounds of the can line. Something has broken through the parameter.
It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the post. Day one, we were testing on competencies, the skills you will need in order to ride on the ambulance and assist the paramedics and EMTS on calls. Coming home after that first night I could barely hold back my excitement about what I learned and sat the whole family down and told them everything I learned. After only a couple weeks with the post and I was already booking my calendar to go to events such as teaching my old Boy Scout troop their first aid merit badge with a group of explorers I had just meet only a couple weeks ago. The beauty of the post is that everyone was there for the same reason, we all wanted to be doctors, or EMTS, or just better prepared for emergencies that may come up in our lives. I think it's safe to say, I have never felt more welcomed into a group in my whole life
There’s something about writing your raw emotions on a piece of paper that allows your spirit to run free and hold no boundaries of what you can think of and it's only the moments in life that can fuel the locked potential inside you. The epiphany of my life was actually closer to this present time than in the past, about last year my family moved from New haven to Branford. In New haven I was in a program which allowed me to go to Wallingford as a district school and I spent 6 years in this program making friends and going to school all I knew from my elementary to highschool period from then was Wallingford. While schooling in Wallingford district living in New haven I had developed a skill of poetry in the midst of 8th grade. I found that
