White foam spreads across a carpet of clear blue. The carpet rises, and the foam curves off the back and crashes to the ground. It travels back across a desert of sand and repeats its actions. The morning sun meets the surface, bouncing off and chasing the reflection of the birds flying. Screams of excitement run past me, their bodies wading into the deep blue. Fiberglass skimming across the top, breaking the perfect surface. There was no looking back now. My heart jumps as i follow closely behind. My arms moving fast, diving deep into the warm liquid. Eager to get to the Hawaiian Dives. We start to slow, the sharp, brown rock, marks the bottoms of my feet as i run across. My hands grip onto the rock as i throw my body up to stand. You could see everything from up there. …show more content…
3,2, 1 I jump, falling my stomach hangs above my head as I hold my breath. The warm blue surrounds my skin as i resurface. Once we returned, the bright sun slowly burns to form a falling ball of fire into the horizon, and the sky is no longer filled in with blue but dull and grey. The air turned cold and windy. The weather didn't seem to phase any of us. The lifejackets were the next stop. Waves curve over the orange sides of the IRB. Turning fast, we ride parallel across the edge of the waves, spinning around. The strong smell of fish and chips help us say goodbye to the beautiful sea and we sit and talk until day disappears into night. We spent more time spent being wet than dry that summer. The sun now drifting further and further down, eventually being swallowed by the horizon and gone until the summer next
last summer,I went to Hawaii for a holiday with my friends. We flew across the pacific to the ting island from Beijing.During our time there, we ate delicious exotic food and drank numerous fruit juices. The Hawaiians are proud of their unique food, often 'spiced up' with slices of juicy pineapple and strings of delicious cheese.
In this article, Professor Walker discusses Hawai’i in the early 1900s, and how it became a “contested domain, a place where colonial men challenged Native respite and Native surfers vehemently fought haole over waves, women, and beach properties”. He discusses the constant fight put up by the Hawaiian men to defend their land, beaches, families, and most importantly, their waves. “On land, Hawaiians were increasingly marginalized from political, social, and economic spheres in the twentieth century. Yet in the ocean, Native surfers secured a position on top of a social hierarchy. Because Hawaiian surfers contended for this autonomous cultural space, they had the freedom to defy colonial prescriptions for how Hawaiian men should behave. As they transgressed haole expectations and categories in the waves, Hawaiian surfers simultaneously defined themselves as active and resistant Natives in a colonial history that regularly wrote them as otherwise. I argue that these men were empowered in the Hawaiian surf
“I’m sorry Mommy, I promise I won’t do it again. Please forgive me.” this was all I could say. I had no excuse for my actions.
Maui, Hawaii, is a beautiful island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, it’s an amazing vacation spot. Most families come to Maui for its island zipline, snorkeling with the sea turtles and riding horses through the island. A lot of people get married on Maui and stay there for there for their honeymoon.
I didn’t think I would ever have the opportunity to go somewhere so beautiful and magical as Hawaii. The waterfalls surrounded by the thick canopy of trees were so calming and amazing.
It is so fantastic to see how people use different languages to create one that it has a little bit of everything. Hawaiian people must be able to understand all the languages that give birth to the hawaiian pidgin and after the hawaiian creole. While watching the video about the voice of Hawaii it came to my mind the word accent. Many people that come from other countries and start learning a specific language that is not their native language, tend to have accents. Hawaiian people sounded like english with an
How is everyone doing and did anything change? Hawaii has very warm consistent weather, but I miss our home cooked meals and the different types of weather. Especially the springtime when the whole family would sit under the cherry blossom tree and gaze at the beautiful pink leaves as they would fall. 10 years ago, when I first arrived for my marriage, I thought the pay would be wonderful because there were so many rumors around the neighborhood and everyone was talking about it. I was excited that life would be like paradise and that is why I thought it would be completely fine to sign the contract that I didn’t even understand, to work here, but we were completely wrong.
Casting my gaze up towards the serene sky, the circling of a hawk looms overhead, losing itself in spite of the sun. Eventually, the shadow of the free-spirited bird dances atop the surface of the water, as the tips of the wings lightly feather my board. The richness of blues that emanate from the tranquil sky, immerse themselves with the different hues of the rocky formations, that run along the embankment of the river. As I lose myself in the peaceful atmosphere, I cannot help
For me, Islanders Aquatics has been more like a family than a team. We always have been a very close-knit group, and strong bonds were continuously formed throughout the years. The members of this team became some of my closest friends; not only did they help me become a better swimmer, but a better person. I’m extremely thankful that I was given the opportunity to be a part of this team.
One morning Lily woke me up and squeezed me and I felt a little bit of a tingle. I saw a bright light shining in my face as bright as the luner eclipse, for a second, because we weren't in Chicago anymore. We were in Hawaii, and trust me I don't want to leave, but I wonder how we got these powers.
I had just arrived at Haleakala national park in Maui, Hawaii. I thought this was going to be a normal day, but it definitely has not. The day already started off crazy because when we got there we put the cooler down and the Hawaiian state bird the Nene goose took the cooler so we had no lunch. Me and my family still went on with our day. First we bought our tickets at the ticket booth the man told me and my family that the park was established August 1,1916. Then we moved along realizing it was a hot day we packed a lot of water but, that was in the cooler so I did not think with no food and no water we would make it that far into the day my mom just said if we wanted to go to the crater we would have to tough it out. So as me and family were still complaining about the food we stumbled upon a man who looked like he was native of Hawaii we asked him a little
Robert sneered, “We’re here to work, not to pray.” Only two weeks passed since I joined Kupu to volunteer for seven-weeks. My team started our first day working in the forest. Although I joined this program to save Hawaii's environment, I found myself lodged between cultures when at 4 a.m. Kama woke us to chant.
Exploding rainbows composed of nothing but undersea life occupy all my vision. Coral starts to peak from the masses as my mind starts to shift and I am transported to a cold forest. Deciduous trees and knotweed take the place of a once thriving ocean. Singing birds mentally packing for a long journey ahead breath their last of forest air. An old fallen tree provides me with a pillow as a final gesture of kindness on this Earth. I start to drift asleep but I don’t want to close my eyes. The world that awaits away from here is one of sadness and strife. My days fueled only to survive and work until I can return to my sanctuary. If only I could stay in the world of my own creation, I could
