My Experience As A Volunteer, For A Community Coalition Event Who would have thought that one animal could make such a difference within a community? The following will detail, how a stray dog inspires a community coalition, to assist other animals, and my experience as a volunteer for the coalition’s very 1st community event. Now, take a further look at
What is “Freddie’s Hope” http://www.freddieshoperescueranch.org? One day, a group of volunteers discovers a stray dog in a Fiesta parking lot. The canine is famished and dehydrated, obviously from his lack of food and clean water. An examination reveals additional injuries to the dog, along with various types of worms. Ultimately, the canine-“Fiesta Freddy” recovers and now lives with a loving couple, and is happy and healthy. Furthermore, “Freddie’s Hope” (Freddie's Hope Rescue Ranch)- a community coalition, develops among volunteers in 2014. As per the “Freddie’s Hope” mission statements, “Our goal is to alleviate the suffering of Houston’s homeless pets and improve the quality of life in our communities” (Freddie's Hope Rescue Ranch), by assisting low-income families with their pet’s needs, such as vaccinations and care, along with spreading awareness throughout areas of Houston, TX.

Post vaccination event, I am reminded of the less fortunate within our community. I am also reminded of that volunteering for just a few hours can make a tremendous impact on those in need. I know now that I need to make sure and focus some of my time by volunteering in the
Through the duration of this course some of my opinions on civic issues have changed and some have stayed the same. An opinion of mine that has changed is the number of flaws in our education system. This is an important civic issue because the education of young people is deciding the future of this world. This is politically significant because this generation will grow up to be a part of politics whether running for a role in the federal, provincial, or municipal parliamentary or simply voting in an election.
Throughout the course of our lives, we must collaborate with people who may have completely different upbringings and have vastly different belief systems than what we may hold ourselves. One scenario in my life in which I had to collaborate with someone different than me was when I had to work with an overly aggressive football player who was a year younger. He started on the freshmen team but soon became the starting quarterback of the varsity team when he was a sophomore. I was on the JV team and was the backup quarterback both my junior and sophomore year. We came from different social groups, and I worried that we would not get along on or off of the field.
They have ways for people to get involved with not only the shelter but also the animals in need of homes. By using adorable pictures of puppies and kittens they get people to pick up the handout. There are stories of how people’s volunteer work has helped them feel a part of the community. This helps people want to get involved and make a difference. Its communication technique is through pictures aided with stories. Doing this helps the reader realize that these experiences happen to real pets and people. The flyer informs the readers of how they can make an impact in these precious animals’ lives. Each story exemplifies how much these animals deserve love and proper treatment. The bulletin reaches people who know little about animals but want to learn and adopt an animal
Emergency Rescue and Rehabilitation – This is the most cost intensive part of our work, and the aspect that often requires fast funding so we can act quickly to provide emergency medical care and rescue services. Through negotiation, collaboration, and legal assistance when necessary, we get animals removed from abusive environments. We work to get animal cruelty laws enforced. Animals rescued from severe abuse and neglect usually have severe health challenges, frequently related to starvation, dehydration, and physical abuse. First priority is major medical care, medicine as needed, and good nutrition. Our organization does not use cages or chains. The dogs have roaming space in fenced acres, allowing them to exercise and run off their stress as
For my nonprofit organization, I am pursuing a dog and cat rescue that is desperately needed in a predominantly agriculture community of central California that has an epidemic of loose unneutered or un-spayed homeless dogs and cats. The location of the rescue will be located in Visalia, California which is a city located between Bakersfield and Fresno. In order to make this nonprofit organization successful, there are many needs that must be addressed and unrealized opportunities that must be realized in order to achieve the rescue’s objectives and meet all needs and opportunities of the community’s pet over-population issue.
Dogs are friends who brings a calming influence, allowing people to open up their hearts and receive help for what is affecting them. These are trained Comfort Dogs for Lutheran Church Charities. Kurt Onken, pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church in Marysville, Washington., wasn’t really sure about the value of the so-called “comfort dogs” prior to a shooting at the local high school just down the road from his church. The pastor has seen the usefulness of the specially trained golden retrievers with his own eyes. For example, for five days after the shooting at Marysville - Pilchuck High School when the dogs visited with their handlers, they visited numerous sites in Marysville in an effort to help students feel safe and happy again. These specially
During my time volunteering at this event, I aided in the planning of an event focusing on the myths of vaccines while identifying subunits on a viral model. We then carried out this activity to family and friends of all ages.
In this era when collaboration is vital to succeed as a scientist, I have active collaborations with Emory University School of Medicine and Texas Tech Paul Foster School of Medicine. I actively participate in departmental and college-wide services, as well as professional organizations and scholarly journals. I sought as an advisor and consultant on scientific and technological programs and problems, which extend well beyond my area of specialty. These experiences demonstrate that I have the skill in providing scientific advice, collaboration, and consultation.
I am a PhD student at the Dalla Lana School for Public Health at the University of Toronto. I work as a research coordinator under the supervision of your former colleague Dr. Julia Woodhall-Melnik. Dr. Woodhall-Melnik has recommended the Communications and Dissemination Research Assistant position on "The Community Ideas Factory Project" to me as she knows I am interested in continuing my work in this area. I have two years of experience in knowledge creation and dissemination from institutions such as St. Michael’s Hospital, and I can use the skills I have built to help you on this project.
Almost three years ago, I resigned from my job, a center event coordinator (CEC), that I was doing great and became an Au Pair in the U.S. I never learned about marketing, planning, and management at school. Nevertheless, I received an official certificate of CEC Role Model Club: Most Progressive in the second quarter of performance evaluation. I realized that I had enthusiasm for acquiring professional knowledge about strategic communication at a graduate school intensely. However, I wanted to travel and soaked up American culture that I dreamed of since I aged seven years old.
I worked with the temples staff and organized a weekly soup kitchen to feed the less fortunate people around the area of South San Francisco and San Bruno. My tasks entailed washing dished, cleaning the mandir is there were enough people to help with the soup kitchen. Also serving food, cleaning the murtis, making the food and also going to help buy groceries to prepare the food, if needed. I volunteer at the mandir on the weekends along with my sister and my parents. This activity allows me to not only spend time with my family, but also give back to my community by preparing and serving food to the less fortunate. Additionally, in order to raise funds for the soup kitchen, as we say in hindi langar, I meet with the fundraising committee as
One of the most memorable experiences of collaboration for me was when I was working on a statistics group project in which we had to gather data for. However, obtaining the data for our project turned out to be a much larger obstacle than we had initially anticipated. When it got to the night before we had to present our findings to the class, we still had only just a couple of data points, and as a result, an inconclusive analysis of the trends shown by our data. Frustrated and stressing out, I was at a loss for what to do and sympathized deeply with those phone survey callers dialing your home phone to collect data only to be hung up on. After a long hour of deliberation and an existential life crisis, I finally approached my group in a
Animal Aid Unlimited recently rescued a dog who was near death after they found him wandering the streets.
The Rescue Project starts off with their volunteers who will go out and search for any animals that have been neglected and abused. Whether they get a call or message telling them about the animal or their volunteers notice the animal, The Rescue Project will find ways to make that animals life more enjoyable. “We provide counseling to the owners, food, treats, some much needed love, and many other kinds of assistance.” said Andrea Knobbe the executive director for The Rescue Project. After talking and counseling with the owners, they will perform follow ups to check on and see how the family and animal are doing. If the owner continues to neglect and abuse the animal, The Rescue Project
