After entering VCU, I faced a lot of challenges that changed my life. As a student, I was able to think critically and write even more academically than before. My experience as a student in VCU broad my visions and narrowed my thinking regarding a particular idea. I wasn’t prepared enough in high school because we were not asked to write a huge essay. My maximum essay was one-page long and I can’t really call it academic. As a student I recognized that I have the ability to extract my ideas and express them properly. My abilities helped me arrange my essay for readers to be able to read. The I-search essay was new to me. I haven’t experienced anything like it before, so I was a bit confused about how to write it. It was easy to write but
College is supposed to be a promising time in many students' lives. There are many experiences that we go through that helps us to grow as individuals. This is also a time where we are molded into becoming responsible adults and creating careers for ourselves. Along with many positive outcomes, there are many concerns that I am currently dealing with as an HBCU student.
East Carolina University is and has always been a dream school for many students including myself. I have grown up hearing about the University and it is nothing short of spectacular. Many family members of mine have attended East Carolina, and I have always pictured myself at this school. It would be an honor to be a pirate. Throughout high school I have struggled in Science and Math. I know I could have done better in high school but in life you can always do something better, im eager to push myself more and work harder than ever to succeed as an adult, if given the chance There are many times when I should I have put school in front of my extra curricular activities such as dancing, art, work, tennis, and swimming. However, all of those
I would be lying if I said Rock Valley College was my first choice when it came down to choosing a place to continue my studies. Then again, like many others students, I didn’t have a
Coming to Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in social work has been one of the best things I have done in the year of 2016. I can remember awaiting my acceptance into Virginia Commonwealth University and instantly choosing to attend. For the remainder of my senior year of high school, I couldn’t wait to pack up and leave for VCU. Before I knew it, it was August 20, 2016, move-in day. Aside from leaving my parents and hometown, I was a bit upset about having to quit my job, the anxiety of being a broke college student hit me before I even stepped on campus. On move in day I was a bit anxious and a little nervous to leave my parents but at the same time I was ready to leave and explore something new on my own.
On Thursday, August 20th 2015 I was accepted into College of Southern Nevada. On Friday, August 21st, 2015 I arrived onto the CSN West Charleston Campus at around seven o'clock in the morning to be one of the first people to take the math, reading, and writing placement tests for the day. After I took the placement tests, I went to the Student Recruitment office and spoke to a woman named Kimiko Walton. I told Kimiko about what happened to me and she recruited me. Afterwards, I purchased my textbooks from the bookstore (a typical mistake made by college freshmens). As I existed the double doors of the CSN bookstore, I told myself: "Nobody can give me the life I deserve expect myself..." On
My first year at Jamestown Community College as a student, I accomplished making Part-time Dean’s List two semesters back to back. Beginning college that year my personal goal was to strive making new habits to get the best experience out of college, while keeping up with my grades. I took classes to guide me through learning paths, but it they taught me ways of accomplishing what you wanted out of life and other significant information in classes. Prior, to entering to college I received a scholarship called Chautauqua Educational Opportunity to attend Jamestown Community College. It is significant to my study because in high school I constantly strived to push myself to get the grades I wanted to be proud of. I was part of a couple activities
I see that writing an essay is like telling your audience a story that you have created yourself. The story could either be about me struggling in being accepted in Valdosta State University, or how Immokalee High school, which is the high school I had attended, began as an educational institution. The paper I typed up in high school were mostly looking up information about a historical event. For example, how Christopher Columbus had discovered America and how he was a terrible person in general. Outside the textbook and writing class, I had written multiple stories about my life and my feelings towards people. These types of stories I had written were very personal. When creating them, I started pouring my emotions into an electronic device.
These past four years have been a wonderful experience. I have learned, grown and matured into the woman I am today because of the lessons and talks I have had inside these four walls of Dillard University. The beginning of my senior year I was terrified, because I knew what I wanted to do but I did not want to fail at it. I was so afraid of failing, I did not allow myself to take risks and step out on faith. The fear of failing kept me from seeing the positive side of things and that crippled me. I had a conversation with Mr. Clark and he told me I could not fail if I didn’t try and that has stuck with me. He pushed and put a lot of pressure on me to apply to graduate school. To make him shut up and stop being on my case, I applied to six
To start, I am a 22-year old rising sophomore at Winston-Salem State University from High Point, NC. I went to Thomasville Senior High and I loved it. I was the class president my sophomore and junior years, and also won top English student award sophomore year. I was chosen to have a success picture taken and post on the school wall and it is still there today.
I toured many Universities while searching for the perfect fit. I wanted an academic focused school, one with well know school spirit, and one where I felt like family. The University of Florida was the last school I toured. As soon as I walked under the Plaza of Americas and into the stadium I knew. I felt a sense of community and belonging. I felt like the University of Florida could be my home, and that was something I hadn’t felt at any other campus. It was an enthusiastic welcome, a welcome to the swamp, and a welcome to the gator nation. The University of Florida has become my home away from home.
am writing to you to inform you about my progress at City College. City College has become my second house, and I can say I have been taking advantage of this great new college experience. This past semester was very successful, and interesting; I took four classes which I passed with A’s. Even though I took only four classes, at the beginning it was very difficult to adapt to the big classes with hundreds of students, and long hours of study in order to past tests with good grades. However, all the efforts made this semester helped me to discover new passions on me that did not exist before.
Thank you so much for writing back to me. I was starting to get worried about you. It is great to know that you are investing so much time in your academic studies! I am currently an all “A” student in my high school and do research with Rutgers University, a college that's only 40 minutes from my house. Education gives meaning to life, in my opinion.
Writing an essay has always been a difficult and tedious task in my opinion. The writing process I followed when creating the original assignment consisted of research, a rough draft, a small amount of editing, and a final draft. Researching the topic was the first step I took in writing my paper. I searched for credible and useful information that would have a positive effect on my essay. After gathering my information, I worked to create an outline that would assist in the organization and structure of my essay. I then used my outline to begin a rough draft by inserting research, as well as my own thoughts and ideas. After editing and revising my essay, I ended with a final draft. The editing done to the paper was basic and done solely by myself. I did not use any resources such as the writing center. Along with this, peer reviews were not helpful as my group did not strive to make any meaningful corrections or provide any constructive criticism. Because I had little corrections the amount of editing or revising done was limited. Throughout the duration of this class, the process in which I write an essay has changed.
Today, I was impressed with the show that Kentucky State University put on. If were in high school after seeing what I saw today and hearing what I heard today....well I would be sold on Kentucky State. I did not see any representation from Central State today. Why was that? It's a 30 minute drive. I love IMM but WE have to do
I have previous experience with this issue having encountered it at Bellevue College Associated Student Government (BCASG) as the Vice President of Finance and Communication. I encouraged the College Board of Trustees to convert a student lounge to a math tutoring lab because the existing space was limited. As a result, we now have a computer-equipped study space which is large enough to fit over one hundred students. Moreover, I worked with the Bellevue College Foundation to purchase STEM textbooks which could be checked out, free of charge by students. I have demonstrated that I can create positive changes for the greater good.
