This is a story of how moving across the country changed my life forever, this is my moving story. I was born and raised in a small town in upper Michigan called Sault Ste. Marie. The Sault is a place where it snows from October to May, everyone knows each other, and the community is tightly knit. I made the journey to Olympia, Washington in July of 2014. My mother and I fell in love with the idea and thought of climbing Mt. Rainier and being in the glory of the mountain everyday. We drove from Michigan to Washington State with our car packed, hearts happy, and we visited all of the beautiful places along the way. In three days I saw seven states, Mt. Rushmore, The Badlands of South Dakota, and Clark Caverns, and so much more! I thought the
Paris! I boarded Delta's 6pm flight from Detroit to Paris-CDG. 12 hours later I found myself rediscovering downtown Paris. Although I've flown through Paris at least a dozen times I've only been into the city twice before, this being my third time.
When ever you’re traveling, you dont really have an adventure if you dont try new things and go to new places then youre not having an adventure. I am going to share some of my favorite activities that I have tried when I went traveling
On December third, I got ready to come to United State. My bags were in order and my passport with me. The time did not run that was not a piece of cake to me since I wanted to see my family. It was amazing feelings. My family and I were happy because we finally were together. My father was registration me on VCU. Now I am studying English Language Program after that I will complete my degree to biomedical engineering. I have the best teachers in the world teach my English. This is the last semester in English that will be difficult for me since

Well let start off saying that its been Awazing getting Here to Davis, I have been through a lot these couple of years, even before I started school.School was something that was a new thing for me because I was born in Mexico and move to the United States for a better living ,so at the time I was 2 when i was staying at my grandparent’s place while my mom found a job and had a house, then she met my dad he was about 20.When we first moved with him there were a lot of people that are better known as my aunts and uncles my grandma and cousins they were all strangers back then. The first couple of years of school father was always strict, he would time me out for not getting all the right I even remember I would cry because my dad told me
Oakland, California, the city that people consider as one of the top five most dangerous cities in the United States. Growing up in the city next to it and having family there, I developed strong bonds to Oakland. I have always seen Oakland in the light for being outrageously diverse and being resilient. My first thoughts of Oakland never consisted of them of the city being dangerous or a bad place to live in. I knew that Oakland is dangerous but I have never experienced anything that made my outlook change. Despite a handful of my family living there and have experienced muggings, robbery and dealing of drugs, I still could not take in how unsafe Oakland is. However, just one incident changed my view of this city, 18 years of my life Oakland
I'm an established freelance writer based in San Diego covering environmental issues in the Southland and beyond. Although it's hard for me to
I don't remember how I met you in 1st grade, but I do remember when you used to be taller than me and had braces. I remember asking you what a period (menstrual) was, and the days when we talked about relationships—I mean we still do, haha. I remember going to the Sacramento field trip with you in 4th grade, when we carpooled to the airport at five in the morning and how you were there when I experienced my first time on a plane. I remember seeing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows together and then getting In-N-Out afterwards. I remember when we both did Beginner and Advanced Strings in 5th grade. I remember having the same cabin as you at 6th grade camp. Going to the Big Bear trip with Ben, Bob and Josh last year and being there when I
I thought today would be just another normal day in chilled Maryland, but oh could I have been more wrong. The day started out just like every other. My little eleven-year-old heart was full of jubilance. I was having an admirable day with all my friends, and I had no worries. None of my siblings knew that an event that night at dinner was about to change our lives for better or for worse. My family and I sat down at aged table and we could all feel the tension that surrounded the air. “We have something to tell you guys, and we don’t want you to get upset” declared my mother. This statement made me nervous. Anytime some says not to get upset, you know something has happened that is going to change your entire live. “We are moving
I spent my childhood in a small, suburban neighborhood just outside of the shadow of Minneapolis, Minnesota. My street is located in a city called Edina: a city that prides itself on “green spaces” and the protection of its environment. Whenever there are too many fires, or a bike path were to be constructed, activist groups gather and protest the damages to both the environment and the city’s image. By the time I was ten, Edina had passed ordinances restricting private citizens’ abilities to cut down living trees older than 10 years (or trees more than 12 inches in diameter one foot from the ground). The city also spent two decades cultivating a pride in our shared landscapes: lakes, forests, wetlands, and prairies. To expose students and
Ever since I found out my softball team could make it to California for Nationals I knew this would be our goal for the summer. Now here is where the challenging part came in, we only had three chances to make it to California. We made it, we were lucky enough to make our goal in the third chance.
From the end of my junior year through my senior year I have been driving up to Portland, usually bringing my dad or some friends to help out with Bridgetown Ministry's Nightstrike. I have helped out with this organization for eight weeks on Thursday nights, reaching out and building relationships with Portland's homeless. In the mix of people there are always faces you recognize from past weeks which gives you a chance to grow deeper relationships with them. There was a little 4 year old boy named Alex that I would see every week and every time he would show me the new tricks he had taught his dog or his tricks on toys like his skateboard. If I did not have so many prior commitments on Thursdays, I would love to be down there every week.
Not being accepted by society has always been a challenge. Everyone has face these problem at least once in their life. Sometimes they don’t accept you for your appearance or for your race. I have personally have faced these obstacle, but I overcame it. It was during my trip to Seattle, Washington to a CTY Program. I wasn’t accepted by my peers and classmates since I am Hispanic and because they knew that I had a Mexican background. Without actually giving me an opportunity to get to know me well, they just judge me. I have been impacted since then, at times afraid that society won’t accept me for who I am.
After the dissatisfying quality of service I received, it is unlikely I will use the airline for my future business trips and request compensation due to employee errors. As a small business owner, I constantly travel and called Jet Express Airlines direct to get the best price for my multiple stop trip. After three calls, I paid $172.50 over my original quote and when I mentioned it to Ashley, the third representative, she said, "Well, you could always take a bus from St. Louis to Nashville, couldn't you?"
