My life changed when I was in seventh grade when I got my braces. Since I was in seventh grade, I was twelve years old and lived in Granite City, Illinois. However, my Orthodontist worked in Glen Carbon. It was a very difficult journey yet, I did it happily as well as willingly. I wouldn’t change my experience at all, the Orthodontist was very nice along with his assistants so it made it even easier for me. The first appointment was pretty much like a dentist appointment, they checked to see what was up along with what they could do for me. Nevertheless, I was sweating bullets. Thankfully, as you would see today that they were able to work on me. I was informed that I had a high palate and that it would need stretching for six months! My mom was left with the duty to do the clicking/stretching with a ‘key’ every night since I wasn’t able to do it myself. Which wasn’t so bad at first, then my mouth would start moving and there's the pain. I would literally have tears streaming down my face, but still try to smile and say “it’s okay mama, it’s worth it.” I never once complained about it. Finally the six months were up and I was ready for braces! I didn’t get them on immediately though, so you probably can tell I was a little upset but, I knew I would get them eventually and I did. Two weeks later, after they used spacers on the back of …show more content…
You wouldn’t think it would be that difficult, but let me tell you, I would stress and just stare at all the varieties, then at my mom and it would go back and forth before I would finally ask “What color should I pick?” Then I would be told, “whatever color I wanted”, however, I didn’t want to pick just any color. Even more so since some would change when I ate a certain food. For example, after I got certain colors, some of them would change after I ate or drank different condiments, especially the color pink, it always turned
My alarm went off at 6:30 I clicked snooze and got off the couch and went upstairs to the bed and laid back down. Then I plugged my phone up into my charger and set my alarm for 7:25 and went back to sleep. When it went off again to wake me up and I got up and went straight to my mom to remind her that I'm going out of town for the weekend and she asked me about everything again to make sure everything was okay and reminded me about my orthodontist appointment. So, I ran my shower picked out my outfit for the day and then jumped in the shower, then when I got out my momma was asking me where her phone was. I said it was on the bed, she said no it was not and then I called her phone and walked out to the ironing board. That's when she found it and I asked for my card once again and she gave it to me and said don’t spend all your money now.
At Dental 2000, we are all about comfort. We work hard to help our patients find the right solution for them and then to stay completely comfortable throughout treatment. We promise pain-free care to each person who visits our office — and we extend this promise to our orthodontic treatment options as well.
It was around 8:15 A.M. and I was on my way to Midwest Orthopedic in Pekin for my foot to get X-Rays because I had a boot on and the wanted me to have a check up. I was in the car with my mom and we just finished getting Starbucks and were driving on the way there. Once we got there we had to fill in some paperwork and wait for the nurse to come and get me.
After almost a lifetime of going to orthodontist appointments for myself, I began to realize what a great job becoming an orthodontist would be. When I was about 9 or 10 years old, I had began the first stage of braces. After that, I was given instructions of how to properly take care of my teeth, such as which foods I couldn’t eat. I did not enjoy the entire experience throughout the years, but was relieved when they were removed before my first year of high school. Then I put on my retainer, and discovered it was like having braces
It was about three hours till sunrise, when I felt my mom shaking my shoulder trying to rise me from my sleep; saying, “I’ve over slept, get up and get in the shower you have less then an hour”. In a haze I rose from my bed dragging my feet behind me, as if they were connected to chains. I then lagged into the shower, upon getting out my mother appeared, “what is taking so long hurry up”! I then only slightly quickened my pace, for I had yet to come upon any type of energy at that hour. Next, thing I know of put on all of my regulation safety clothes and headed towards the car.
I’ve always wanted braces. One day my mom and I went to the Dentist to get a cleaning. My mom asked if I could get braces and they said I could and we be able to get them the next day. The next day we went in and waited to get called, it took awhile. My mom and I went in after we got called and waited for the Orthodontics to come in. He came in and explained everything they were going to do, He said it would be better to only get the top braces on and next week get the bottom braces. They put this weird thing on my lips to keep them from closing. Next, they put this blue thing on each of my teeth, I think it was glue for the bracket. After, they had this blue laser type of thing which made the glue dry up. Then they put on the wire and I was
David, an orthodontist from the Career Cruising database, says “It’s great to be able to create beautiful smiles for patients of all ages.” Orthodontics is a fulfilling and interesting career that matches my personality, goals, likes, and interests. However, to become an orthodontist there are many things that one needs to achieve. This includes learning about certain parts of the job, the education, and the working conditions.
My initial desire in pursuing dentistry as a prospective career field began at the end of my orthodontic appointment for braces at the age of 12. As a young child, my front teeth were significantly crooked and large. I was bullied and made fun of everyday from the third grade up until my seventh grade year of school. My peers at school would call me all kinds of names like “Buck Tooth Becky,” “Scissor Mouth,” “Walrus Girl,” and many others. I can remember having a group of guys throw sticks at me during recess and screaming in front of everyone that my teeth were so sharp they could slice everyone in half. That was the lowest point of humiliation in life for me and I grew increasingly conscious of my teeth. After that particular incident in school, I developed a closed mouth smile to avoid being made fun of. I begin to ask my parents for braces as often as possible. Around my 12th birthday, my parents asked me what I wanted as a gift. I told them the one thing I had been asking for since the third grade, braces.
“See you tomorrow with my new braces,” I hollered to my friend. “Bye!” he yelled back. I grabbed my bright baby blue backpack while heading out the door, racing down the driveway and clambering into the car. “Ready?” my mom says firmly. “As ready as I’ll ever be,” I said back to her as we drove away. My thoughts were swirling in my head as I thought how bad braces were gonna be. We were there as fast as a cheetah because BOOM! There I was sitting in the cold leather reclining chair next to small table with tools on a tray.

On January 19, 2017, my pod was scheduled to go on mobile clinic to Bella Terra for a full shift of dental hygiene care. We set up in the conference room of the facility and our operatory was set back in the corner of the room.
After three years, my braces were removed during the summer of 2015. I was relieved that I could finally eat popcorn and snack on taffy without having to worry about breaking off a bracket or two. After a while, I found myself wishing to choose a new color for my rubber bands again. At that moment, I realized that I wanted to become an orthodontist.
Through shadowing general dentists, I was exposed to how dental offices run their business behind the scene. I was able to learned how to sterilize a room after it was used, how to take x-rays, and how to assist the dentists in certain procedures. These experiences gave me basic understanding of how to properly settle up and handle dental tools, which I can incorporate into what I will learn in dental school. Shadowing dentists and volunteered at the hospital had also give me the chance to interacts with patients, which is another skill that I can apply to clinical works in dental
In my life, I have experienced many situations that you could describe as “life changing” where it changed the way I think or feel about a certain subject. But, there is only one in particular that I will be reminded of everyday for the rest of my life. I never thought hanging out with my friends could turn out so awful. Before I can tell you exactly what happened, you should know that when I woke up that morning I was feeling extremely fierce and I was determined to have a great day. Nothing could stop me that day because it was the day I heard the album “Live From the Dentist Office” came out. Keep in mind, this is not an advertisement for a hip-hop album, but more than that. It is a great album.
Mainly I have worked as a dental nurse, but previously I have worked as a school cleaner and as a cafeteria worker in a factory. I have accumulated many transferable skills ideal for this job. For instance I used to volunteer at my daughter's school when she was young, helping the children with their studies. Therefore, this provides me with the necessary experience of being able to help others effectively. Furthermore, I have had employment in various office settings. This gives me the technical knowledge to effectively manage records because as a dental nurse I have to maintain patient records and appointments.
