My high school requires twenty-five service hours each year of high school in order to graduate, plus an additional fifteen to be involved in National Honor Society. While this may make all of the community services I have participated in sound like a mere school requirement, it is actually the complete opposite of that. Without those school requirements, I am not sure how involved I would be in my community. But due to them, I am always involved in some way. I attend my church's fifth and sixth grade summer camp as a teen counselor, and have done so for three summers. This experience is very special every year because as I grow in my own faith and knowledge, the experiences I see my campers undergoing in just a weekend means more and more
Students should not be required to complete 100 hours of community service to graduate high school for many reasons. Some of which include the lack of extra free time, inability to go somewhere, and the potential to have a higher dropout rate.
Last summer I volunteered to be a camp counselor at a camp in Blowing Rock, North Carolina called Camp Sonshine. This camp is different from others in that they bring children ages 5 to 18 from inner city Memphis, Tennessee to the Appalachian Mountains. This
When applying for a position at a job, managers always check to see how much experience you have in order to check if you are qualified. When filling out a college application there are always questions that ask to write down any extra curricular activities you participated in or any clubs/service work you did and for how long. It is important to be a part of the community and to be dedicated to one or two locations for a certain amount of time to show commitment and effort. A student that has been a part of an organization for about three months and has not missed will be prefered at a college than a student that goes five times a month. Community service does not only help build relationships but allows students to spend their time learning new skills and it will benefit them in the future. Community service for high school seniors should be mandatory because it will teach the students how to be responsible, allow them to explore in depth something related to their career and improve their communication skills.
I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.
“What defines you as a person is not the life you were born into, but what you made of it” Shahid Kapoor said. This quote can mean many things, but to me, it means that the things that are given to you are not as important as the things you have to work for. The things I have had to work for over the last 17 years of my life have shaped the person I am today.
To society I seem to be very talkative on the other hand I can be intelligent. For example was in National Honor Society, had above average grades, I was very outgoing and did a lot of sports and clubs throughout the years. People would also agree that I always have been very clumsy. In general people would say I am not an overall serious person.
My involvement with the Honors Program and the Honors Club has increased over time. When I first enrolled in Pima Community College I was hoping for no more than a certificate that would allow me to access a well paid job in this country. The reason for this is that, even though I wanted to go to a four year university as I was doing when I lived in Colombia, I knew that higher education would be too expensive for me to afford as an immigrant that had recently moved into the U.S. I also thought that the language barrier would make it difficult for me to obtain the grades that I wanted. However, after taking my assessment exams when I first joined Pima and getting a very high score that allowed me to join the Honors Program, my curiosity and desire to further my education began to swell. After my first semester in Pima I obtained a 4.0 GPA, which gave the
Hello "rickykillaz" here, Here just putting up some For Honor game play footage I thought it would be cool. I dropped some random footage because I play For Honor a lot and it is one of my favorite games to play right now. The first video is "Live" which is me going up against one of the biggest characters in For Honor history, the moment is called "Clash Of The Titans". The second video is called "View" which is me going around and show you the view of For Honor, while doing the "Chameleon Run" and show of my armor, Dou watch and
My alarm went off at 4:45a.m. As soon as I heard it, I knew I had a long day ahead of me. My parents started screaming and telling everyone to get in the car. My mom, dad, two brothers (Nico and Adrian), grandfather, and I all put our luggages in the car and got seated. At 5:00 a.m. we were out the door and on the road for a 10 hour drive to Seaside, Florida.
Throughout the last 14 years of school I have had what I thought were called accomplishments, from getting A honor roll or even AB honor roll, to me that was always a big deal ever since I was a little girl. As school went on, I recieved awards here and there from teachers for many different things. Some were just from doing well on something, and others were for accomplishing something in class. Even though, I may have thought that those pieces of paper were a huge deal, one of the most special most meaningful ones I have recieved was last year at the end of the year for the underclassmen awards banquet. For this awards banquet only selected students were invited to attend, which in that case most of us are not sure of what we were selected for we just go and
Stripping and paving a football-field length path by six feet by hand sounds excruciating. That is because it is, but, how can one negotiate against a monstrous feat such as this? This is an obstacle I faced that made me extend my leadership abilities during my Eagle Scout project. Oddly, though I encountered a plethora of turmoil during my project, I am glad because the experience allowed me to grow as a leader.
A $3,000 dollar scholarship, or any scholarship for that matter, would open me to a plethora of opportunities, taking away the financial burdens that would typically discourage me. A $3,000 scholarship would help me be one step closer to my goal, and dream I have had since I was in kindergarten-- to be a Senator. My dream of becoming a Senator, while ambitious, does not come without determination, regardless of my financial situation or any other socially constructed boundaries. $3,000 today would mean that I could save now, while I continous on my quest of lifelong knowledge at a higher education institution. I recognize that I am one of the few who has been given these privileges of being able to chase after my own dream. I have the unique
I made a promise to myself, the day I got my very first report card-at my new school-, that I remain focused, and stay motivated. I strived for A’s and Honor roll. Now, I am a Highschool student- my senior year- attending Carencro High School, maintaining a 3.3 gpa. I plan to attend Southern University A&M Baton Rouge, La, majoring in Accounting, minoring in Business Administration.
When it comes to high school and junior high doing community service I’m kind of in the middle, you do really have a choice but if you don’t want to do it then don’t sign up. Community hours or Volunteer work is not required to graduate. Community Service is a choice, when you signed up for EAST or another extra-curricular activity you are required to do so. Many people believe that community service isn’t a choice, or there forced to do so. Volunteer work or Community Service promotes great citizenship and shows that you are willing to help people or communities in need. I think that yes, you should be required to do theses hours, but only if you have signed up to do them. From the http://www.debate.org “There are many benefits of doing community
High schoolers already stress enough about things in life, and although some of them go home and do nothing after school, others do have responsibilities that they have to participate in, such as jobs. As a high schooler with a job, I know that doing community service would not work out well. I get two days off per week, and those days are still busy for me, with church and occasionally other things. Because of my scheduling, if community service was required, I would not be able to meet those requirements. Let’s say that so many hours of community service was required per month to graduate high school. With some teachers that hand homework out, students who have jobs, students who have sports, and students who
