Personal Narrative: Offence Wins Games, Defense Wins Competition

No other sport will mean so much to me as basketball will. Every time I step on the court, I lose myself and become a whole other person. When I hear my name yelled in the crowd, I get an adrenaline rush to my brain, causing me to swiftly move quicker and focus on the game. Deep down I know that I am not here to win the game, but to enjoy myself. Each basket I make are like my worries trapped into the ball, and then expelled when it goes into the basket. This game is where my mind gets lost in the sounds of the dribbles. When the game is over, I look back to my team and give them warming hugs knowing that the game is over, and we will not stop playing the sport because there is always time to get better. Although I frantically wash my jerseys the nights before games, and leave my stinky shoes in my car all season, I would not trade pulling a jersey over my head every Friday night, dancing to blaring music in the locker room, and lacing up my shoe for the world. It means a lot more to me knowing that it is more than just a game. While I know I am having fun with my best friends and some of the greatest mentors that I have, I know that I am learning true values of life, which will make me become a better

Basketball is one of the most popular which is beloved sports that is played today. Michael Jordan, who played for the Washington Wizards and the Chicago Bulls once said, “Just play, have fun, and enjoy the game” (BrainyQuote 2016). Whether playing with friends for fun or by professionals for entertainment or simply watching from home, basketball is very enjoyed all over the world. Beginning with a unique history, basketball has evolved over time from a simple idea into a professional career choice for those with the unique skill set.

My entire life, I have lived and breathed basketball. When I was only three days old, I was being passed around in the stands of a basketball game while my parents coached my older sister. In first grade, I was begging my parents to let me play. I couldn’t, however, because in my town kids don’t start playing basketball until the third grade. They let me join an Upward basketball league that was near my area, but Upward wasn’t competitive enough for me. So the next year, I went a couple towns over to join their city league so I could play. From then on, basketball was my passion.

It all started at the beginning of tryouts. The week of excitement and nervousness. Everyone was already making guesses on who was gonna be on the team. Then so it started, the first day was pretty easy and so was the next. The third was conditioning day, which was the worst. Then the last two days were fairly easy too. But those days were the most nerve racking. Those were the days when the cuts were made.

This is probably the most popular and used play in football. This play requires that the running back runs off the outside hip of the tackle.

On this Saturday’s evening game, the baseball game was 2 teams in the championship game. The 2 teams that were facing were Pipe Creek (which was my team) and Mcadams the team we had to beat. Mcadams was the #1 seed and Pipe Creek was #2 seed, we were throwing back and forth and getting some practice before the game. Later we finally start the game. Pipe Creek was the Visitors and Mcadams was the home team. Pipe Creek was up to bat first and we scored 6 runs in the 1st inning.

We left Garberville, CA at 5 a.m. We knew it would be a long haul ahead of us. I slept on the floorboard of the back seat of Holly’s truck for the first couple of hours. Holly was a funny outgoing and straight to the point person. Along with us were my Mom and Dad, Dylan(Holly’s husband) and there two kids Ashley and Clayton. Dylan was a tall red head that is always the life of the party. Ashley was a short dirty blonde girl that loves her horses. And Clayton, clayton was just like his dad a big built red hair with blue eyes and super outgoing. Finally were my parents. My Mom and Dad we both very active outgoing people who got along great with Dylan and Holly and their kids so we knew it was going to be a fun week in Winnemucca. We

It was a cold, wet, and a windy day my Junior year. We had a football game about an hour and a half away from us. I started both on offense and defense, I also was on about every special team. We were losing 7-0, it was the 4th quarter with barely any time left and we were pushed up against the wall trying to fight back. We had the ball on our own 30-yard line and had to go the rest of the way and score to have any chance of winning. I don't know about the rest of the team, but at this point and time I was already dead, I was limping around and was sore everywhere, but I kept on pushing through it.

Basketball is my favorite sport because I grew up watching Micheal Jordan .Growing up in my community, everybody wanted to play basketball like Micheal Jordan. He was one of the greatest players of all time in the history of the National Basketball Association. Basketball is a major sport in my community mainly it’s the only thing that keep you away from trouble.

I had prepared for weeks on end for this day, every week trying to better myself for this day, hoping that when this day came the hard work would pay off. It was the day of my trials to get into the Scotland under fifteen squad that would go to Sweden to compete in one of Europe’s biggest basketball tournaments. I and a few others made the trip down to the Peak in Stirling to compete for a place in the squad. The whole journey down I was tense thinking about what would come from today, I prayed that I would make the cut.

An all time favorite activities of me to do and to watch is basketball. Basketball is something I relish because it's exciting and really affecting, I started playing when I was in fourth grade. When I became attentive in basketball it was because I was trying out sports that year and I determine I admired it and really, enjoying it. Basketball is something my dad, and my brother plays, too. My brother and I try to practice, and learn from each other when we both have the time to practice.

I am Samantha Ruelas. I am a person who enjoy playing sports. Like football, basketball, Taekwondo, and maybe even soccer. But what I really enjoy from all of those, is basketball.
