6. The Pursuit of a Blank Day
Why does Corporate Mentality shun the idea of downtime? What is so sinister about a day of nothing? Is it an unpaid benefit for the employee, precious time we are not being compensated for with productivity? Is it our protestant work ethic working overtime? I love the way we automatically consider this time non-productive…
I can remember an ER television episode where there were no patients…they sat around throwing crumpled newspaper balls at the garbage cans. During this time, they solved several critical personnel issues, became better friends and bonded. When the first emergency did come in, the team reunited and responded in an excellent and cohesive manner. There lay the benefit of emotionally rested staff.

Go with the flow, indulge it, hell, wallow in it. When the staff comes back, they are more
Then ready to work with energetic productivity making up for the loss of time.
This same manager decided to have all his meetings on a Friday afternoon. This brilliant idea would fill standard downtime with precious productivity. The senior people involved in the meeting were less than ecstatic…it was tough to get up any energy on a
Friday afternoon after a grueling week. They obliged him for some time…until one day someone said “I wonder what all the junior staff are doing while we are all in a meeting on good old Friday afternoon?” Enough said. It isn’t a question of just accepting down time and working around it…it is the wonderful Stay clear of meetings at the beginning and end of the week. Let people set up their week on Mondays, returning phonecalls and planning. Allow Tuesday to get it rolling. Meet on Wednesday where ideas and projects can still be started on the Thursday, leave Friday alone.

An artist friend of mine was often sitting around, doing nothing. At least it
Ability to arrange workday around personal obligations for example instead of working the normal shift from 8.00am to 5.00pm people can choose to work from 7.00 am to 4.00 pm and use that hour left for personal matters.
We’ve grown accustomed to finishing all of our work by Friday evening so that we could go out on the weekends.
It is not uncommon to become accustomed to the way business is conducted in the United States. It’s a fair assumption that many young, inexperienced business executives are unaware of international cultures in business. Each country has particular customs and practices. It certainly goes without saying that Corporate America has an understanding when it comes to the terms of a standard workweek.
In 2025, I will be twenty-nine years old and hopefully married. I will be married to my significant other of ten years Earnest Palmer III, who is a dentist. I would have been recently graduating with a bachelor’s in Culinary Arts and trying to plan to open my own restaurant, BubbaD’s Eateries. Knowing my big headed husband of mine, I probably had a baby then and trying to have another baby. Hopefully, by then Earnest will get rid of the idea naming our son, King. We will be living in the suburbs near New York City but working in the city. Being a woman with great memory, I probably wrote a memoir about my crazy life and trying to sell it to a publisher. If none of the publishers wants to publish my memoir, I will probably sell it the Lifetime
It was the summer between my eighth grade graduation and the start of my first year of high school that my family and I left behind our city dwelling first-floor three-bedroom apartment on a one-way street in Connecticut to the rurally side stacked townhomes and sub-divisions of Virginia. I had not put much thought into why we moved or what might come of moving. I did come to the conclusion that this move would be “better for us” as my mom would say because through copious amounts of research she discovered that the education provided would master that of our public school system where not all students had the books they needed in order to learn and even do homework. As the night transcended and we packed into our vehicles it was
I feel that this industry requires a level of dedication unlike any other. In most professions weekends are something that is sacred that rarely ever gets disturbed.
According to Kottler, Zehm and Kotler (2005), teachers should "spend considerable time and effort building positive relationships with children, allowing their authenticity, genuiness, and caring to shine through. This statement drives what I'd like to be said about me at my retirement dinner. I want my students to say that I was a human being willing to relate my experiences to theirs and that I was their biggest motivator.
I am an introvert. I value my personal space and I need my alone time. I haven’t had much of either ever since I moved into my dorm at the University of Georgia two weeks ago. Every day has been a combination of classes, errands, and friends. This isn’t a complaint. I love the freedom and figuring out how to handle more responsibility. I love being around other people and having friends that are always up to watching something on Netflix or playing a game. But everyone needs a break. The first two weeks have been a rush but there hasn’t been a moment to just pause and take in everything that has happened so far.
I am an introvert who values my personal space and alone time. However, I haven’t had much of either in the last few weeks. Since moving into my dorm at the University of Georgia, the last few weeks have been a rush. Every day has been a combination of classes, homework, running to stores, catching buses, and meeting friends. This isn’t a complaint. I love the freedom and figuring out how to handle more responsibility. I love being around other people and having friends that are always up for watching a movie I’ve yet to see or playing a match of Super Smash Bros. The first two weeks have rushed by and there hasn’t been a moment to just pause and take in everything that has happened so far.
As I walk out of the gas station and down the ramp. I look down in disappointment and anger. Never wanting to return to our dreadful car ride. I knew what was coming and all I wanted to do was curl up in a tiny ball. I didn't want to hear everyone giggling, because going on this hike was a formidable challenge for me. I laboriously dragged myself to the car. We have been driving for what seemed like a lifetime. We are on our way to a campsite and “the hike of the century.” We had been preparing for this trip for weeks. We had an ample amount of supplies for this trip. Four and a half hours later we had arrived. i tried to ignore the negative stories in my head. Of course the fear of slipping off the trial kept popping in my head. I couldn’t get rid of it. Sluggishly, I followed the big group before me.
I ask for every employee to understand that we are a facility that may run 7 days we will try to keep it 6 days but that may not always be the case as your on-site Manager I request that you try and cooperate with you branches to fill this account on the daily bases If you cannot work 7 days then you need to take a day off during work week Monday-Friday weekends will only be given to those who have been here for years and only if Branches are sure that our numbers have been covered and that you do not currently hold a key position with us.
It is common practice for call center employees to call out the day before and or after a holiday.
Today I decided to get an extra eight hours that I missed over break. I usually do not come in on Mondays due to my class schedule won’t allow me. I looked at YES reports all day. I filed for one of the caseworkers because she was behind in paperwork. I had to hole punch paperwork and file them in clients file. She had a lot of paperwork that needed to be filed so I had a project to do for the entire day. The office was very quiet as usually, especially since people were getting caught up on end of the month paperwork.
Let’s say Tim, who works at a pizza shop a few evenings and weekends, needs to request a Saturday off for a soccer tournament. He has to leave a note for his boss.
You have energizing work ventures you might want to go up against yet dependable appear to be excessively tied up with the day, making it impossible to day running of your business to get to them.
