Before my big move to Houston about three years ago for college, it was my last summer back home in a little city called Amarillo, which is considered “West Texas,” although it’s actually located geographically north within the heart of the Texas Panhandle. I was enjoying every last bits of the time that I’ve had left with my friends and family. The last thing I could think of worrying about during that summer was a romantic relationship. My intentions were to make bittersweet memories and to have what they would call, fun. I went out almost every single weekend for the first month of my last summer and met tons of friends and I became closer to old casual friends. Within that first month of consistently going out and hanging out with all these friends that I became close to, I met a very sweet, charming, and interesting guy named Andy. Something about him caught my attention. He was silly and funny without even trying, so I took an interest in him. We started messaging each other on Facebook then texting and making polite conversations. Before I knew it, this was the starting point to a whole new friendship. When he first messaged me, as much as I hesitated to respond to him because I knew I was moving and I did not want to develop feelings just leave everything behind, I wanted to not just respond but to strike more conversations. I became curious about him and I wanted to find out more and more.

The birds, squirrels, and fishes living in tranquility. The daylight there is an early riser, while the night feels like a mother rocking her baby; peaceful. Therefore, the nights are so still that only the beautiful harmony of the crickets could be heard. The green tree looks so alive, they were standing large and stiff. There was even the opportunity of exploring the mountain trails. It was amazing being able to experience something completely different, especially when it was just a few days from starting my junior year. The memories from that trip will be unforgettable.

Being from rural Mississippi, people from other states assume that we know very little about what goes on outside our state let alone our own town. In a way, I can see why, but glad I am one of the ones who, thanks to my family, have an idea of a world larger than my town. I am from a family of six consisting of my mother, father, step-mother, brother, and identical twin sister. We did a lot of traveling when growing up normally traveling out of state even if just for weekends. My interest in other cultures and languages came from my family, especially on my mother’s side where I members who traveled out of country for work and would bring us back clothes, books, or other souvenirs. In recent days I had the opportunity to go back to North Carolina for a few short days. There, with a heavy heart from a loss in the family, I had nothing else to look towards. I’ve always heard of individuals finding peace, faith, blessings, and love of Christ from attending church. I’ve never been a person who put their faith into a higher power. As I was growing up my parents never wanted to force me into any religion without me knowing everything about it and choosing which route to take on my own. As the years treaded on, I never bothered myself to learn about the many different religions and what each stands for. So I used this opportunity as mine to attend church for the very first time. I'm from Round Rock, or for those of you who don't know where that is, we'll just go with Austin. Round Rock is great and you can find activities to find on some occasion, but when I am in Austin I am never bored. I used to go downtown a lot when I was younger with my Mother, Father, and older sister, but as my parents became busy and my sister and I became more involved in school we make the 20-minute travel to Austin less and less. I grew up with my two sisters and mother in the safety and growing town of Round Rock, but when I was able to drive my friends and I would make the drive downtown to enjoy the ambiance of Austin. I was given more freedom than my older sister was given in high school, but I couldn't complain my mother trusted me

The only state I have ever known as home is North Carolina. I was born and raised in Charlotte and the only time I have ever moved away was last year to start a new chapter of my life as a college student. Growing up in Charlotte has had such an impact on what I plan to do with my future. As a young child I always thought of Charlotte as the next best thing to New York City. I shortly realized after visiting that was not quite the case. New York City introduced me to a new world of opportunity.

A toast to a place above all the rest, this place though odd has captured my heart. I know this isn’t a conventional Burns supper toast, or even a real toast at all. But as I was thinking about which toast I wanted to give; I realized that there was only one place that I wanted to talk about. So firstly, I would like to ask you guys have you ever been to a place that makes you feel happy. A place that even at the mention of its name, you can’t help but think of happy memories you had there. The place that does that for me is the Black Hills of South Dakota. I spent my summer working at a campground in the heart of the Black Hills. So here’s a toast to the Black Hills and all of its natural beauty.

Nolanville ,Texas was where it all began. I was about fifteen or so my sisters and I were walking to the buss stop . The big brother Iam trying to make sure my sisters are safe. I told my sister to get off to the side of the road . It was early in the morning around six to seven am. The typical time for school to start around . I have a really big family to be exact I have five sisters and myself which is the only boy being the second oldest the buss stop was about about a mile or so not very far from my house on the corner of the street a black car sped through the street as I was on the right hand my sister sarah the middle child started to cross the road as I saw the saw went to go yell the car hits her projecting into the air the car was

One day in Nebraska, Bill was riding in his brand new 1970 chevelle. He was thinking if he could bring it to a drag strip and race that would be great. So he got online to check if there were any events and there happened to be one in one day. So he got his car all cleaned up and tooned out for the race. The next day he got up and got ready for a great day. He got into his car and head off to the drag race track. Once he got there he got his car all ready for the race just to make sure. His opponent was very experienced and you could tell he has been racing for a while. So Bill got nervous but he was ready. His opponent had a very fast car that might have had even more power than his chevelle.

I am from Alabama aka AL, but I live in Colorado now. When I was down there I lived in a small town that is called Frisco City, Al that has trees everywhere and there are lakes everywhere too. I loved everything about my hometown, but I had to leave my home because I was young and dumb. Also I wanted to see a new place. When someone asked me why I left AL I told them why. I have been in CO for 1 year and I like the jobs here and the education is great. I really miss my family and my hometown, so I wanted to go back home to see my family because I haven't seen them in a year. That's why I am telling you about my trip back home.

My family has a background of going to Texas at least once every year. The year that I went it was going to be mother's day, and both my mom & dad wanted to go and see their families down there in Texas. My mom and dad told me that we were going to go I was excited i’d get to see my family again, and spend time with them. It’s always fun when we go to visit everyone just having a good time. When they told my sister she wasn't that excited she knew that she’s have to leave her girlfriend, but she ended up warming up to the idea because she knew my mom and dad hadn't seen their families in a while and they never really get to see them that often.

The alluring Mead Valley; where there’s roadkill on every main road, starving dogs on your trail, and The Red Store where the whole town is acquainted with one another. Having a large family in a small house is not an uncommon occurrence, and with this sizable household, it’s evident that my mind and persona was shaped by many from a young age. My mom always advised me to be appreciative of the situation I was born into, because in the real world, when deprivation in any form struck me down, I would have the resources to get back up and labor through the rigorous times. I was disciplined through trial and error parenting. Instead of putting a stop to my mistakes completely, I was given the privilege to make my own decisions and learn from them,

I am just a poor farmer in Hillsboro, Tennessee. I spend my days working on the farm with my wife, Mary, and my kid, Daniel, trying to make ends meet. Mary harvests the gardens while I cultivate the fields and cultivate the livestock. We are so poor, I got my son helping me on the farm. Daniel can’t spend all his time with me because he has got homework to do. After he comes home from school, he works on his homework, and then helps me on the farm until the sun sets. We can barely afford the clothes on our bodies. We’re lucky if we have any electricity for that matter. That mixed with the dust storms that come by here, makes farming impossible and the land infertile. Now we are all forced to work harder to make enough money to just survive.
