Yet there is one piece of writing I wrote that change my life and felt that it had an important impact to The City of Chicago. My teacher during that time wanted the class to enter in a citywide competition, which is called “Do The Write Thing”. There are many infamous unsolved mysteries throughout time, and some investigations span decades. A few mysteries include D.B. Cooper, Jack the ripper, and the unknown assailant of J.F.K., but none of these mysteries compare to the mystery surrounding the Hagley Woods murder and the conspiracies surrounding it. The case of a woman who met a grisly demise has inspired the locals to persist in figuring out who killed the woman whose body was never claimed.

In a small midwestern town in Villisca, Iowa rests the quiet house of Josiah B. The city of Chicago has been displayed as a dangerous city in which all residents are affiliated with drugs, gangs, and misconduct of firearms. Whether someone fits into this stereotype or not, is normally based on their surroundings and their interactions with others. Growing up in Gage Park, named one of the worst neighborhoods, falling into this stereotype and becoming affiliated with drugs, guns, and gangs, would not be too hard for someone to do. Last week, Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village, an apartment complex on the Lower Eastside of Manhattan, was sold to the Blackstone Group. In the recent past, the buying and selling of this complex has only induced fear and frustration to its residents. Since its creation, Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village has been home to the middle-class families of New York City. The complex was established after World War II by MetLife specifically to house returning veterans, and in return for a large property tax break the rents were kept low and affordable. Unfortunately, recent buyers have worked to replace longtime, rent-regulated residents with tenants who pay three times as much.

I met up with the rest of my team at the crime scene. I showed my badge as it clearly stated my position as a NYPD Lieutenant officer. I went under the black and yellow striped bordering tape, to see a pale lifeless body on the floor.

The Dayton community is a unique, diverse, and energetic family to be a part of while studying abroad. When I first went abroad, I had a small network of friends that I knew were going to be on the trip, as well, but there were many other students that I did not know. However, after a few days, strangers became friends. There is a quote that says, “It’s not about where you are, but who you’re with”. Of all the murders and crimes the police have been able to figure out they still haven't figured out one. All the killings are from one man, every single death, all in the Mayberry Forest, was by a knife. Mayberry being the town that owned that part of the forest back in the 1950’s.

It was not normal for my parents to agree to go on vacation with the whole family. Especially on such short notice. But, we did agree to go. We did agree to pack our bags. We did agree to the twenty hours it would take us to reach Los Angeles. However, nobody realized what they were getting themselves into. At least, I did not, at the time.
