Three, Two, One, and the race is off. 30,000 runners pass me in the blink of an eye. I hear the laughter all around. I feel the joy spreading through the area. As the time flys by I see runners starting to cross the finish line and the whole atmosphere turned. Boom! A loud noise followed by a large chunks of gravel flying in the air. Screaming and terror rose as another bomb exploded 12 seconds after. I see the fear of faces scatter throughout the street. Myself and many others, can’t put together what just happened. My instincts kicked in and I run into the action. We’ve just been apart of another U.S terrorist attack.
A woman is laying on the ground screaming in pain. I use my ability to comfort her, and call in backup. As I look down the street, I notice many others just like her in front of me. A paramedic arrived in a blink of an eye as I let the woman go. About 170 people were injured in this attack, and I was lucky enough to help 6 of those back to safety.

Through hours of surveillance video, they noticed something unusual. Three days after the attack, the FBI released photos and videos of two bombing suspects. As that day carries on, I received a call from the police department. Two suspects were robbing a convenience store! I couldn’t make it to the scene since my wife was going into labor. I promised my wife that I’d be there with her when the baby was due. Later that night, the television lit up with Breaking News. Police officer Sean Collier, shot and killed in the line of
On September 11, 2001 tragedy struck. The sky was blue and it was a beautiful morning. I was walking down the street to get some breakfast with an old friend. I opened the door to the old Copper Lantern restaurant where we were suppose to meet, and there she was. She looked so amazing it was great to finally see Amanda again! Midcoversation there was suddenly a loud boom, and the ground rumbled. Girls in the restaurant screamed, with in minutes everything was chaotic. I grab Amanda's hand a pulled her through the waves of families till we finally got to the door. I took my first steps outside and everything was in a haze.
Prior to the 1993 bombing, the threat of international terrorism had never really hit home for most Americans, “It couldn’t happen here”. But it did. A group of Middle Eastern terrorists placed explosives in the back of a rented van and parked it in the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center. The result was a large crater, over a thousand
Too black for the White kids, yet somehow too white for the Black kids, oh the perils of a cappuccino mixed race kid. But it’s true. My life since I was young, at least younger than my eighteen year old self, has been about which group do I most fit in with. Between the four school changes over the course of twelve years, all in white suburban towns I’ve molded myself into an array of characters.
At the scene of the bombing, “A local hospital administrator explained modestly, ‘With the enormous outpouring of medical volunteers we received, it would have been nearly impossible not to have done a great job’” (Ray 2). After the terrorist attack of the twin towers, it was the survivors of the Oklahoma City Bombing who gave the 9/11 victims the most effective support. Janet Walker made the statement, “We’re the only ones who can truly say, ‘I know how you feel’ (Tanner 1). Kathleen Treanor, a woman who lost her daughter and both of her in-laws, said “It’s an immediate connection” (Tanner 1).
I learned quite a bit about the psychological impact of the Boston Marathon Bombing. After researching the effects, I realized how much trauma these innocent people went through during a moment that was supposed to be joyous. People that were healthy and filled with life were either severely injured or had there life taken away by a senseless act. Some of the injured victims will never be able to walk again, others, never able to see their loved ones again. Martin Richard, an 8-year old boy whose life was taken during the attack, will never get to see his family one more time. The amount of grief the Tsarnev brothers caused can never be taken back and it has left a psychological effect on the viewers and the victims – runners, adults and children.
April 15, 2013 hundreds of innocent Americans were traumatized forever. The 117th annual Boston Marathon was hit with an act of terrorism. Two-hundred-sixty people lost their legs while three people lost their lives. On this day Americans realized how important security is. One thousand federal, state, and local law enforcement personnel sat down and watched surveillance footage for hours tracking the terrorist that caused the Boston Bombing to occur. April 18, 2013 the FBI released footage and images of suspects whose identity was once unknown to gain more knowledge. Due to security footage the men who committed the monstrous act were brought to justice. Without the public surveillance these terrorist would have never been found. September 11, 2001 is one of the most infamous dates in American history. On this day, 19 radicalized Islamic militants hijacked four United States-based airplanes. Two of the planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Thousands of first responders, occupants of the Towers and bystanders were killed or injured. The third plane flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and 125 people were killed. The passengers on the fourth plane revolted and forced the hijackers to crash into a field in Stony Creek, Pennsylvania. A total of 3,000 people were killed and over 6,000 were injured that day (“9/11 Attacks” 1). After the most detrimental terrorist attack in the history of the United States, action needed to
A few hours after the photos were released the suspects shot an MIT police officer multiple times killing him. The two of them then carjacked a Mercedes-Benz in a neighborhood of Boston where they took the owner of the car hostage. They then forced the hostage to withdraw money from an ATM (Shallwani, 2013). The car’s owner was able to escape when the suspects stopped at a gas station. His cellphone remained in the stolen vehicle, allowing police to focus on Watertown (Shallwani, 2013). On April 19th shortly after midnight the brothers were spotted by a local police officer in Watertown (Arsenault, 2013). Within minutes the area was a standoff between the police and the brothers. As many as 300 bullets were exchanged between police and the brothers in the firefight (Arsenault, 2013). The suspects threw pipe bombs at the police when they were surrounded as well as a copy of their pressure cooker bomb, an exact duplicate of the Boston Marathon bombs. After several minutes of tense gunfire and homemade bombs going off the elder brother, Tamerlan, walked towards the officers until he ran out of ammunition (Arsenault, 2013). The cops then tackled Tamerlan but had to quickly scatter when the younger brother came in the stolen SUV and ran over Tamerlan (Arsenault,
As the 9/11 attacks were happening millions of people’s eyes couldn't leave the t.v. screens they all thought only that it couldn’t be real. The assistant fire chief was talking with his men after he had his coffee when what he thought was a t.v. show came on but soon found out the terrorists hijacked a plane and crashed it. Many of the first responders were busy treating smoke inhalation when the first plane struck its target, but many others waited for their broken bones and bad burns to be treated. The emergency responders do these things every day, protect other people from getting hurt by these types of things.the noises around them was the hardest things to see happen what he heard was pain and death.
Within seconds of the clock striking 2:49 p.m, a bomb goes off in front of Marathon Sports store near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing one and wounding a number of others, both runners and spectators. Less than a minute later, another bomb lets off in front of the Forum restaurant, killing two more and injuring many more(CNN). As chaos began to erupt, Boston PD sprang into action immediately. Despite their efforts, the bomber who was at the time unknown, had already escaped the scene. Within minutes of the explosion, the event is now being acknowledged at the national level, suspected of being the first act of foreign terrorism since the 9/11 attacks on the Twin
The day of 9/11 began just like any other for Monica, a young mother and an ordinary American citizen. She got up and made her two young children and husband pancakes for breakfast. They ate and laughed. After breakfast, Monica sat her children down to watch cartoons while she and her husband worked out finances. She paid little attention to the T.V. Then, at 8:46 am, the day suddenly took a drastic turn for the worst. the T.V. screen no longer displayed happy little cartoon animals; it showed a massive skyscraper with smoke billowing up from it; the World Trade Center had been hit by a hijacked American plane.
Two terrorist attacks, both at different times, and both unexpected occurred. One being before the 1960’s and the other after. In the early
This event happened on April 15, 2013 in Boston Massachusetts. Two brothers by the names of Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev decided to place two pressure cooker bombs amidst the crowd of marathon runners. Only two seconds apart, the two bombs went off along the finish line on Boylston Street. Leading up to the event there was the conflict in the middle east, which is where both the brothers were born, and they wanted a way to get back at the United States. There was no anticipation to this event because there hadn’t been any sort of threat or previous attack on this
Domestic Terrorism has become a serious problem in the United States. The actions taken by offenders on April 15, 2013 disrupted the lives of many. This paper will explore events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing incident and evaluate the effects caused by the incident. While also reviewing the strategies of various local, state, and federal agencies and how they coordinated their efforts to suspects while also ensuring the safety of the public at the same time. On April 12, 2013, it was a special day in Massachusetts. Many people gather to watch runners for an iconic run through Boston. Today would be the change of many people’s life. An eight-year-old would lose his life along with two other people. Almost twenty people would go on to become an amputee. The Tsarnaev brothers studied “how to” videos and documents showing them how to construct a homemade bomb. In the description, there was a statement telling them to trust in Allah. Two homemade bombs were placed near the finish line, probably a block apart. The first one going off closer to the finish line. As soon as the bomb goes off, all there is to see is a giant area, behind the fencing, of blood, people screaming and an immediate panic. The next couple days were a race to get the suspects apprehended before more carnage could happen. The city was locked down. The brothers were linked
