For some students a report card is an accurate reflection of their abilities, aspirations, and future work habits. Many friends of mine have flawless, or near flawless, report cards. Straight A's and weighted GPA's well over 4.0 grace their every progress report, and I am certain they will continue this streak of academic excellence well into the future. For others, C's, D's and fail's are a normal occurrence, and much like the straight A students, I have no doubt that they will continue down this path. But for some students, like myself, a report card is not an accurate picture of academic ability. I am not afraid to admit - to friends, family, or schools I intend to apply to - that my grades aren't good. I haven't had a GPA anywhere near …show more content…
To this day I still enjoy programming, and what some see as homework, I see as a good way to spend a Saturday. On the other hand, I struggle to find value in classes such as Literature or History. While there are aspects of both subjects that I enjoy, I don't believe they have any place in a required curriculum for a high school student who knows what he wants to do. This admittedly pessimistic view of many of my classes has led to bad work habits, and subsequently to bad grades, yet my drive in classes that do interest me, and that I know I will one day find value in, has produced B's or even A's for the first time in years. For instance, once I recognized the potential of math in computer programming, even including concepts I never thought I'd use(such as imaginary numbers), my grades in my math classes skyrocketed. I brought a C in mathematical analysis up to a B, and this year in AP Calculus I've started the year well with an A in the first semester. Yet another example of my success in subject areas I care about is my time spent in the Academic Decathlon program. I had heard about this team and their many successes even before entering high school, but when my grades started to slip I figured I had no chance at joining. However, the Academic Decathlon program accepts students with a variety of GPA's who make up three different teams accordingly. I found my niche on the Varsity, or C Team, and right from
Whenever the term legacy is invoked in conversation it elicits many different responses. What is it that makes a person have a legacy that will endure long after he or she has breathed their last breath? In my judgement there are several factors that enable a person to have a long lasting impact on others. There are several key attributes that I feel contribute in the greatest manner of developing a person into who they are and into the professional and the leader they were destined to become. As I take an in-depth view of myself and evaluate the abilities that I possess, there are areas I must identify to improve upon whether strengths or weaknesses. The strengths are my endurance, compassion, and leadership,
Hmmm………What shall I tell you about me? You, the person who will decide my fate, my fate as to whether I would go to CU-Boulder, go live in Colorado, go snowboarding in the mountains, meet lots of interesting people, and have the most wonderful experience…I better make myself sound worthy. First off, I want you to know that I'm an unparalleled individual, whose outlook on life is of total optimism. Through out my 18 years, I've become freinds with people from all walks of life. I've learned to empathize with just about every one of them, gaining the greatest understanding in a variety of remarkable characters. One of my favorite, a homeless lady who's called Polly, tells the most incredible stories of love and the many
Pursing a career as a medical doctor is an opportunity for me to mentor youth in underserved populations. As a child, I was raised in the low income, urban community of Roxbury, MA. Although not as notorious today, the neighborhood had garnered negative attention for its high crime rates. My mother emigrated from Haiti and raised me as a single parent. Due to our financial circumstance, Roxbury became our permanent residence. I have always felt there was something lacking in Roxbury in comparison to other towns I visited. My teenage years were largely spent in the suburban town of Stoneham where I attended high school. There was a literal difference in air quality and a psychology contrast in future prospects. While native students of
Of all the forms of literature, the most interesting might be the fairytales, or the science fiction thriller about robots. However, there lacks the sense of truth, in a way blocking the reader from true connection with the story. Memoir is real, memoir is true, and memoir can range from any end of the ocean in structure and theme.
There are few certainties of what one will encounter during life. A common joke names two: death and
This is Mary McLeod Bethune School of North Lawndale in Chicago, and I am the new principle this year. Due to the poor economy around the school, things have been left to the way side, but I pray help give some hope back. Students are set back and 8th grade for some are their big celebration but I want to see them graduate high school. I want to be sitting in the audience at high school graduation and go those are my kids. Some issues at Bethune are based in the school makeup and location, teachers, readings levels, and the children encouragement.
Between working on homework for many hours into the night and staying after school to get help from teachers, I accomplished and exceeded my goal of doing well in advanced classes. I knew that in the long run my hard work would pay off, but it would also continue helping me in my daily life. Since I chose to make these decisions, I have become a very dedicated, scholarly, and hard working student. Due to these characteristics, I have been able to accomplish many other goals in life, such as pushing myself to learn multiple musical instruments, competing for all conference in track and field against girls twice my size, and receiving leads in many theatre productions. All of these achievements were reached due to the skills I learned while pushing myself to do better throughout my academic career. In the future, I will be able to better achieve my goals and aspirations as a result of my successful years in high school. I now plan to push myself to excel in college, as well as in a future career, all thanks to the effort and dedication I put into my hard work in high
Growing up as the son of a rural Iowa veterinarian, I got my first experience in a medical field while riding along with my dad on calls, and from an early age my interest was piqued. It was the first of multiple experiences that pointed me toward a career in physical therapy.
I thrive on gaining knowledge. Even now, as a non-traditional student and busy mother to two young children, learning excites me. As an 18-year-old in Germany, I began a 10-year career as a military analyst that honed my ability to think critically, pay attention to detail, and visualize holistic solutions to unique problems. However, I spent my free time riding a bike along The Rhine searching for a quiet space to settle in with the wisdom of books such as The Art of Happiness and The Elegant Universe. There, on those riverbanks, I discovered within myself an innate curiosity of the mind and the fundamental nature of the world.
It was 5:15 in the morning, and my mother had just finished giving birth to a healthy, 7 pound, baby girl—me. After I was born, my mother had to fend me off from dozens of nurses, who all wanted to hold me and take a look at me. Apparently, I was the only girl to have been born in that hospital that whole night/morning. However, I would have never guessed that this specific occurrence would have been an irony, of sorts, to my identity.
I am excited to be qualified to have the opportunity to apply for the Rose Marie Beard Woman of Spirit Honors Scholarship. I immigrated from the Philippines to the United States with my father and two older sisters. My mother joined us after a few years. My parents instilled in me the importance of education, as well as the obstacles that may stand in the way. When we arrived in the United States, my father enrolled me in a Catholic school, where he believed I would receive the best education. I am now the first person in my family to attend to college. After elementary school, I knew I wanted to continue my educational journey in a private Catholic high school, but I knew the expenses would be a problem. I maintained being a top student and looked for different options to get to where I wanted to be. To obtain this dream, which always seemed unreachable for my family, I worked hard with
My results after taking the o*net interest profile test I have found that my results lead to artistic, social and enterprising as my highest ones. When I read all three of them I mostly agree with the artistic and social portions. I've always had a big passion for art, when it comes to making something boring too great i find alot of intrest. When I think about doing anything art related I think about doing it as a side job, I don't think I would like it much as an everyday thing.
If I were to choose an intended audience to target, my choice would be adolescents currently attending high school. High school students in this day and age have their plates full to the brim. With all the classes they are required to take, the pile of homework they’re assigned each night, and the extracurricular activities they’ve signed up for, it’s no wonder that they don’t have much time to think about the future. Despite having full schedules, I believe that a modern home economics, or life skills class, would be worth freeing up time for. My plan would be to create an impactful video and several different flyers to promote my idea and maximize its reach. The video would be distributed through social media platforms such as Facebook,
A time I personally experienced the fact that communication in the workplace is very important is when I experienced it for myself. Every day I communicate with others just like most. I am a desk receptionist in my father’s office. Therefore, communication is all I really do all day. Talking to others in a respectful and well-mannered way is one of my most important tasks of the day. I love greeting people and helping others when I am at work to satisfy their wants and needs in any possible way I can.
I knew this was the one thing I would miss most. Well, actually there were two things. First, was the look of dread in each parent 's eye. It was both heartwarming and completely silly. This special day brought on the true severing of the apron strings. The children never failed to bring a smile to my face when the tables turned. Now it were the children who wanted to stay and the parents now clings to their sons and daughters. It never fails to happen in a blink of an eye. One moment the parents were trying to convince their child how much fun they are about to have and the next the child was insuring the parent that they had everything in their cubby and it was time for them to go away. This would be my last year being a preschool teacher because of an agreement I made after my college graduation.
