Although a degree is not required to complete this goal, I feel that a Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness from Kaplan will give me a better understanding of the human body and broaden my career path. I will gain knowledge from Kaplan to exceed in the fitness world. Fitness trainers help individual’s reach fitness and nutrition goals by motivating and inspiring individuals or groups. Fitness trainers demonstrate different exercises, work out personal nutrition plans, and evaluate the clients level of fitness. There are many aspects to fitness trainer’s methods i.e.; weight lifting, cardiovascular, dance, yoga, stretching and strength training. Fitness trainer’s work with all ages, sizes, and fitness levels. Fitness trainers will modify exercise to fit a person’s physical needs and get a better understanding of a person’s weaknesses. “Fitness trainers and instructors work in facilities such as health clubs, fitness or recreation centers, gyms, and yoga and Pilates studios.” (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2015) With the upraise of technology and the lack of time working individuals have I feel that online fitness professionals is what is needed. So any chance I get I look up any information that will come up and read everything possible to give more me information about becoming an athletic trainer. This is something that has been very important to me for several years and I’m never letting go of this no matter what it takes to get there. I enjoy sports a lot and like learning how to help people get to learn more about the proper use of equipment, and I like teaching people too. That is one requirement that it takes to be an athletic trainer. I am interested in the occupation because it fits perfect in what I am looking for in a career. I feel like with me being involved in the sports the way that I am now it would be perfect and I have plans to still wanting to be as athletic when I am older too. I have chosen to study athletic training because it allows me to still participate and be involved in sports as well as be able to help athletes recover from injuries while gaining valuable clinical experience for physical therapy. Growing up I have always had a love for sports but I have not been graced with the abilities to become a professional athlete. The profession that I am interested in is an Athletic Trainer. I have chosen this career because it is something that I have recently become passionate about within the last two years. I have never been the kind of person to struggle with weight, however after having my 3rd and last child, weight has become an issue. I mention my personal struggle to give insight on why I have chosen an Athletic Trainer. This profession’s main goal is physical fitness. As a trainer you become responsible for another person’s physical active lifestyle. Assisting clients from injury to recovery, evaluating their bodies and advising the individual what is best. Athletic Trainers has many responsibilities. AT’s are professionals in the health care world who mainly caters to athletes. An AT however isn’t limited to just athletes. They work with just about anyone. Ages ranging from a child to an adult. Different skill and jobs, people such as soldiers, high school athletes, and professional athletes.
While a sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to take a sports medicine elective class. At first, I was not too sure about it, but I thought I would give it a try and I ended up loving every second of the class, especially the hands-on experience. After taking both levels of the course, I learned a great deal about taping, special tests, the different treatment modalities, all the joints of the body and common injuries for each, as well as the different career options under the sports medicine umbrella. Since I enjoyed the course, I signed up for my school’s Athletic Training club where I was a student trainer for the wrestling and soccer teams. I worked alongside the school’s head athletic trainer to help tape, stretch, and provide first aid for the athletes both on and off the field. We also worked to provide and implement rehabilitation plans to help the athletes return to play after an injury. When I was applying to colleges, I was confident in my decision to major in Athletic Training. Science had always been my favorite subject in school and becoming an Athletic Trainer was a way to combine my love of science with my love of sports. I knew I wanted to have a career in which I could help people. Working with athletes to provide preventative services, emergency care, therapy and rehabilitation seemed the perfect way to combine all of those interests. Growing up, sports were always a big part of my life.

Everyone has something they’re talented at, and many people have to try multiple things before they find their talent(s) that they have. As a child, my parents like many others had me participate in multiple activities. For example, I took dance classes, played a great amount of sports, and was a participant in many plays. In my freshman year, I tried running track and field. During the course of it, I developed shin splints and I proceeded to go to the athletic trainer. The athletic trainer here, Todd Korabek, has a system that works for the whole program. New injuries will see an aide, and that aide will then write up a card for them which lists their name, sport, injury, and body part. The aide doesn’t write the injury because only the athletic trainer can diagnose. After the athletic trainer treats all old injuries, he evaluates the new injuries, which happened to be me at that moment. Watching the aides assist Mr. Korabek really inspired me and his profession intrigued me.

My first year of high school, I had experience with injured football players during my physical education class. We had a certified trainer who would come in and check them out. She was excellent and all of the football players and staff loved her. I was so interested in her work and later thought about making it my career goal. As time passed, I transferred schools. At my new school, there was an opportunity with two other girls to join the football team. One of my friends that I already knew before I changed schools. He introduced me to the girls and the helped me get involved. The job was to assist the athletic trainer and also help the football coach with any laundry, equipment, etc.
If I choose a career in the health field, the career that I want to be in is an athletic trainer. Athletic trainers work with athletes to help prevent injuries. If athletes do have an injury, the trainer must evaluate and treat the athlete with proper medical attention. The trainer must make sure that after medical treatment the player is physically ready to go back to playing sports. When athletes have an injury that involves therapy, the trainer must assign physical programs for them to attend. Athletic trainers work with physicians in getting together the proper rehabilitation program for the injured players. The first time I realized that I wanted to be an athletic trainer was during my eighth grade summer at camp. I was working on a project where I had to find careers that I was interested in. Doing this project helped me realize how many job choices there were, but only one intrigued me as much as this one. My choice to major in kinesiology was made clear during my freshman year after I job shadowed an athletic trainer at my local college and high school. High school has helped me realize who I am and what I want to become, and college will help me become that person.

More growth is expected, fueled by an aging Baby Boomer generation in search of eternal youth and the reality that regular exercise can prevent or control diseases that are driving health care costs relentlessly upward. When it comes to job prospects, Athletic Trainers can have a fairly easy time finding a job if they look in the right areas. Missouri is the easier place to find a job if a person wanted to be an Athletic Trainer because there are more job opportunities. If a person wants to work as an Athletic Trainer it will be easiest to live in a city or town that has colleges, universities, or gyms (“Employment and Outlook” 1). Once I get the right education, I feel confident that I will find a job as an Athletic Trainer. I am glad that I would not have to leave Missouri since there are typically job openings here. I would rather not move out of Missouri, but I would not mind moving if it meant that I got to pursue the career of my choice.
