Nursing school has given me insights as to how different people react to different stimuli.Over time I have developed a special interest in psych nursing, particularly personality disorders and everything else about social interaction and how the mind works. I've always been interested in narcissistic personality disorder, I've read many articles about this that I became so fascinated by it. I believe this, a dear friend's a brilliant advice and the untimely death of another friend in 2009 has triggered my passion for writing and research using social experiments.Social experiment is the perfect tool for me, as a Writer, I am able to tell my own experience in my book and as a Nurse, I am able to carry out my research on narcissism (as one of …show more content…
After 2010 I considered all of my other jobs as just work experiences, a sort of "jobs within a job"if you will, just a requirement to get a writing project done. I started writing a memoir in November 2011 about call center life and decided to embark on my first social experiment based on it, which served as my initiation to our group. According to some articles, there is a prevalence of narcissism among call center agents but of course with the exemption of a few as my husband has worked long enough as a call center agent himself. I somehow wanted to find out if there's any truth to it, so that's how everything came about. It was very exciting because role playing is fun, especially if you get to play someone opposite your personality...I should say that my exposure to acting classes when I was younger has paid off. Role playing in a social experiment is necessary to lure the prime subject ( male narcissist).Narcissistic men are attracted to people they perceive to be helpless and vulnerable.NARCS live to control and manipulate others. The most unforgettable thing for me, was wearing prosthetics to cover the braces in my mouth to achieve that bad teeth look, just helped me get more into the character of someone inferior and shy...and because of this, I even had an awkward situation where two of my co-workers, noticed that I was brushing my teeth in the toilet cubicle and that it took me so much time in the ladies' room. Another one of them even caught me thinking aloud as if I was talking all by myself ...probably she thought I was crazy, aha ha when little did she know, I was just memorizing my lines..part of the social experiment is having a script prepared ahead of
My inspiration to pursue a lifelong career in nursing derived from witnessing a close individual succumb to a painful and chronic disease when I was the tender age of 6. I pondered and researched endlessly on the symptoms and damage caused by that disease until I comprehended its origin and everlasting effects. The memory of witnessing that individual die will continue to plague my memories and serve as a reminder of why I continue to strive for my goals today. From that point on, I knew exactly the person I aspired to be in the future—a nurse. I was fascinated with acquiring knowledge about the human body and diseases. In high school, I applied to a local hospital to become a candystriper to gain more insight about the medical field and nursing. I was placed into the endoscopy department and it was there where I truly established my determination to take on the challenge of becoming a nurse. I witnessed and experienced a myriad of things during my time there. I grasped how to become more compassionate and to prioritize one’s life and safety above everything. The hospital became my personified version of Utopia.
Van Gogh once said “your profession is what you’re put here on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling”. That is what nursing is to me. A passion that started early in life. During my senior year in high school, I completed the nursing assistant course over a holiday break in order to begin working as a certified nursing assistant at a local hospital and nursing home. I continued serving others, in this capacity, while I pursued higher education earning my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Clarkson College. After graduation, I began my career as a Registered Nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital. Over the last nine years at Sacred Heart, my experience grew as a staff nurse on a Cardiology Step-down Unit,
Nursing is more than traveling room to room, patient to patient, to provide medical care. Nursing is about treating the patient with the utmost respect and compassion. It’s more than providing medical care, but supporting the patient and family. Being a nurse only requires a bachelor degree and a “RN” badge, however, a great nurse possesses that knowledge, along with determination, a positive attitude, compassion, and patience. I believe that I display these characteristics and have a true passion for helping others. Throughout high school, I always had an interest in the medical field and biology. In my junior year, I decided to enroll in the CNA course to pursue my passion for nursing early on. Through this class, I experienced moments of self discovery
Nursing will allow me to give back to my community by working at local hospitals or schools. After about five years or so I plan to take my knowledge and experience worldwide by delivering care to underserved nations worldwide. Nursing will be challenging. But my struggles will be nothing compared to those that I'll be helping. The benefits outweigh the
My initial interest in nursing began from my experience with my grandmother. It was in the fall of 2007 when my grandmother was sent to the hospital due to hypernatremia. My dad would pick me up every afternoon from school to visit my grandmother. I was given the responsibility to look after my grandma for nearly two weeks that includes in feeding her, assisting her, and other light duties. What fascinate me during my visits in the hospital were the nurses who assisted and took care of my grandma. They treated my grandma with dignity, kindness, compassion, courtesy, respect, understanding, and love. Their commitment, professionalism, dedication, determination and skills inspired me to pursue a career in the medical field. From that point, I realized that nursing is a field that enables people impact other people’s lives and make a difference. At 9 years old, being a nurse was a childhood dream and now I am at the point of turning my dream into reality. I want to study and pursue my dream registered nursing at Ryerson University that offers a nursing degree program that focuses on developing student’s critical thinking skills, ability to analyze reflectively and apply theory through community health focused practice making Ryerson one of the best nursing schools in Canada.
Nursing has always been a natural choice for me. From the time I was a little girl I received satisfaction and enjoyment from providing care for my great-grandmother, ensuring my elderly neighbor wasn’t lonely, various forms of problem solving and all things science related. Compassion, care and critical thinking are merely
The nursing profession was designed to focus on individual care, their families and the communities they serve to ensure accessibility to optimal health. Nurses are not limited to a specific practice. They work in a variety of settings and serve countless roles in the hospital community. They are a support system when bad news is relayed but they are also birthday party hosts for ailing children. Being a nursing student will not only challenges my intellect but also my character.
Hard work and empathy were instilled in me at a young age and ultimately have guided my life decisions. I always knew I wanted a career doing something that involved helping people and left me feeling that I made a difference in their lives. I finished my undergraduate degree in Nutrition, but in the end lacked passion for the profession. Following a personal experience with an Occupational Therapist, I was able to see the positive outcome she had on my grandfathers recovery which lead me to pursue my career in occupational therapy.
I have always believed in giving back to the community and in sharing my competencies and skills with others. My desire to help people in the field of nursing has powered my decision to take up a graduate degree in Nursing. Overcoming the many challenges in my life has helped me to believe that I can reach any goal I have set for myself, and one of these lifelong goals is to become a nurse practitioner and to obtain
Foremost, I am drawn to nursing from experiencing the lack of quality healthcare available throughout society, often to the people who need it the most. Growing up in rural China, I have witnessed the negative effects of a faulty healthcare system on children, adults, and even a whole community. I find it appalling that people are suffering and dying from preventable diseases, due to a lack of access to medical facilities, or when individuals are unable to seek adequate health care because of
As I scroll through various column pages, I was exhausted from seeing the grinning tanned face of a man, namely Donald Trump. Opinions of this man and the U.S. elections blasted throughout the media. I was tired of it. Luckily, I found Arthur C. Brooks - who did write a few articles about the elections, but I forgave him since he didn't write so many compared to other writers. The three articles that I have read are, "Narcissism is Increasing. So You're Not So Special," "Nice People Really Do Have Fun," and, "To Be Happier, Start Thinking More About Your Death." In these articles, Arthur discusses his opinion on human behavior and gives tips on how to re-evaluate them. I will analyze the rhetorical appeals Arthur has used to convince to his
Yes this alternate major interests me. I've always been interested in the human body, physically and mentally. Being able to get into the depth of what it's like to get into the mental state of someone's mental being has always amazes me. Going into the field of nursing, I will be taking care of people through physical knowledge. But when dealing with multiple people and various emotions it's best to be familiar with the psychology of the human mind as well. Not only to understand the emotions of patients but also to be able to show empathy for all of the
I was intrigued by the profession of a Nurse at a young age. However, what truly sparked my interest in this thriving career was when a close friend of mine was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Ever since she was diagnosed I wanted to help to create an encouraging, loving and supporting environment around in her time of need and sorrow. Since then I have always been fascinated and interested by the scientific and academic side of nursing along with the caregiving duties of the profession. Because of this, it has lead me to study Level 3 Health and Social Care programme. I am particularly enjoying my Level 3 Health and Social Care programme as it allowed me to carry out the theoretical side of my course in a real life environment as I have a work placement with a care agency. Now I am striving to further my knowledge and proficiencies through taking a university level course in Nursing.
For my entire life, I have had my feelings questioned, mocked, and dictated to me by the ones who were supposed to love me the most. The message I've received is that my feelings are wrong, invalid, merely a tool of manipulation, and/or I am not entitled to them at all. Furthermore, others are more entitled to their opinions about my feelings and why I am experiencing them. I now know that is not true, and I am working to repair the damage it has caused, as it has affected every aspect of my life.
I chose this major because I like to help people. I chose nursing because I want to save lives. I’m interested in nursing also because of my mom. My mom has a lot of health conditions include diabetes, fibromyalgia, asthma, and gastritis. I help my mom on daily basis with her conditions. I love helping my mom. To me, being a nurse is far more than a job or even a career. It's an adventure, a continuous learning process that I embark on bravely each day, in search of life changing events and miracles. I consider myself to be a compassionate person who genuinely enjoys helping people, to positively impact people's lives by making a significant difference while achieving a lifelong dream, because of its endless variety and finally, I believe this is the best career path for me.
